D.R. Lanta Bay Resort in Lanta Island

Koh Lanta itself is not too bad (as far as the islands go) but the hospitality is horrendous and this place charges a fortune to treat you like they couldn't care less. At almost $200 a night they denied us an extra room key for our bungalow that sleeps two couples. One room key to share to open the door and also keep the A/C and mini fridge running. The property is beautiful and the beach is fine and not over crowded. The bungalows are not terrible for the area but would rate around a 2 star at a fraction of the cost in the states. If you're ok with the filth of Thailand, love food poisoning, and throwing money away at every turn, maybe it would be a 3 star. We complained about the rotten shrimp they served in our Pad Thai dish and they told us to stop complaining and be quiet because of the other guests that were still eating and unaware they may wake with debilitating diarrhea and vomiting later. After a month in the region, I personally will not come back to Thailand based on the misrepresentation of what it was. Beautiful beaches with terrible accommodations and open sewage lines everywhere. Oh, the smell. If you must still come here, know that you don't always "get what you pay for" and the great reviews come from all over the world. Not everybody has the same expectations. If you are from the USA, hot water, toilet paper, and clean food are above and beyond what money can buy in many places.
