The Royal Sonesta Boston

The lobby and other areas were nice but our room was a huge disappointment - not at all 4 star or even 3 star quality. They put us on the 10th floor and as soon as we stepped off the elevator we noticed it felt dank and musty up there. Went into the room and it was no better. Lots of ugly looking patches on the ceiling as shown. The room was very humid and even with the AC cranked down to 68 it continued to feel warm and musty. Also, it was only like a $20 difference but we paid for "city view" room and our room had only a tiny window with a view of Cambridge, not Boston. When I mentioned this to the front desk they said "city view means Cambridge not Boston." Really? The hotel is literally located on the Charles River. The only way a room could NOT have a view of either Cambridge or Boston would be if it had no windows, and I can't say I've ever stayed in a 4 star room without a window. So the "city view" thing felt like a blatant scam. Location is good as it's easily walkable to downtown Boston at a lower price than downtown hotels, but do yourself a favor and stay at Hotel Marlowe right around the corner instead as it is a far better hotel than this one. I've stayed at Econo-Lodges with nicer rooms.

I arrived at 6 AM right after my flight, and I was trying to get an earlier check-in (obviously was ready to pay extra) but unfortunately, they had none available. I understand that this can happen.
They mentioned cleaning starts at 9 AM, so I decided to wait. However, when I checked again around 9:30 AM, they informed me that they had just started cleaning the room.
It's now almost 11 AM, and I went to check in again and still no room is ready, even though I had called ahead to request early check-in when I was booking. I'm frustrated that it's taking so long to clean one room.
They offered a room with one bed instead of two, which I find ridiculous. They also said we could wait until 4 PM.
The person who appeared to be the manager, a white male with bald hair, was rude and unprofessional when I spoke to him in the lobby on July 29th between 6-7 AM. He didn't make any effort to help or communicate with us. After a few hours we came to the desk again and another lady finally took our phone number to inform us when the room would be ready.
I saw many others getting checked in while I sat in the lobby. Considering the size of this hotel, I find it hard to believe that it should take this long to prepare one room. I won't be coming back here and wish I had booked a hotel across the street.
