Courtyard by Marriott Myrtle Beach Barefoot Landing

Rooms need renovation. First room they put us in smells carpets and floors were dirty. Second room is cleaner but has the noisiest bathroom fan. You can’t hear the TV over the ruckus. The smoke alarm beeped and needed new batteries and the TV needed a reset to work. We drove 12 hours to get here and didn’t enjoy having to wait some more for the technician to show up before we can get cleaned up and rest. The AC/ heater is also super noisy. The hallways and carpets all look dingy and worn and they were in the middle of painting the lobby and first floor. We were surprised the room was not serviced after the first night. Then they say the hotel policy was every second night. Second night passed no service. They promised to take care of it but same for third night. Fourth night rolled around and they only changed the towels. Did not vacuum, did not sweep the floors nor make the beds. The front desk staff was always friendly and apologetic but just can’t seem to get things organized. The location was super convenient but we are not coming back. I used the a Bonvoy App to book but there was no mention of the hotel under renovation nor the two day room servicing policy at this location. Very poor value for the room rates they are charging. On the flip side it’s a pet friendly hotel so we saw quite a few dogs. Again I wouldn’t have booked here if I had known. Probably explained why the place smelled. We came here to play golf and ran into someone staying at a different Marriott 10 minutes away. Completely different experience and paying similar rates as us. It’s kind of ridiculous that the brand doesn’t have better quality control over their properties.

Stayed here for a couple nights earlier this week. Room was clean but run down- it is clear the building is due for a renovation. Door frame in bathroom was actually rusty, and there were a few bugs crawling around- looked like cockroaches, but I don't think that's what they were.

It's annoying that they have a policy of only providing housekeeping if you specifically ask for it- I suspect it is because they are short staffed. They should be upfront about that in the reservation process. Also, my room only had one towel in it, and was missing its iron.

Interactions with the front desk were all fine and friendly. Interactions with everyone else weren't unfriendly, but definitely had no warmth to them. No smiles, no small talk, nothing.

Location is close to a lot of things, but the location of the hotel is not amenable to wandering/exploring on foot. This particular Courtyard needs an upgrade.
