The Bidwell Marriott Portland

Stayed 9/5-9/8/24. I'll start with the wins:
The staff they have is terrific! Front desk and valet staff could not have been more friendly.
Our room had great views and was a good size as I used suite nights to upgrade to an M Lounge room.
We were celebrating a birthday and the hotel sent a lovely gift bag and card.

The opportunities:
M lounge is infested with fruit flies. Espresso machine is broken. The Lounge only served breakfast. My BF stopped in one afternoon for a snack (I work in the food industry and am well aware of the various sanitation causes that result in a fruit fly infestation so refused to eat anything from there). and was told they weren't offering food in the afternoons/evenings because they had no staff. Why would I use suite night awards when the Lounge is not available and unsanitary? With the lounge closed we picked up 2 yogurts and water from the gift shop charging it to the room. Instead of the purchase being removed utilizing the $30 destination fee the charge was added to our room.
Housekeeping showed 2 of 3 days. Bizarrely threw all of the extra bedding on the couch and left it there in a heap.
High Horse restaurant is awful. Went twice for breakfast and was disappointed both times.Eggs were flavorless and raw and "toast" not toasted. Asked for salt and pepper and was told they had to fill a shaker for us which took 10 minutes. How do you not have salt and pepper shakers filled?
Gym is well appointed but HOT. There were 3 or 4 fans (not commercial but the cheapy kind you would buy for your house I guess) that did nothing to cool things off.

I spent the 4 days we were in Portland checking out other Marriott properties as we visit Portland often.

I am a titanium elite member who travels often for work and pleasure. This hotel sadly is a very poor representation of your Brand.

I left this hotel happy about everything, but after checking my bill, I realized I was misinformed, which caused me to pay an additional 60 or so dollars. Overall, the staff and room were great. The location is great—you can walk to almost all the iconic must-sees in downtown Portland. However, beware of their "Destination Fee". They give you a $30 credit for food, but ONLY IF you go to the restaurant and not room service. I wouldn't have minded if I knew, but it was not told to me to begin with, so not only could I not use the credits, I paid for them. I'm leaving this review so it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Room size is decent. I like the king size bed. We had a great stay

Staff is friendly! The hotel is very nice and our room was huge! The only downside was there was no fan or vent in the bathroom which made it extremely hot when showering. The hot and cold water didn't work either. It would just change temperature randomly.
