Hotel Kutuma

We just returned from our 25th anniversary trip to Montreal. Hotel Kutuma is a real gem: delightful staff, well-appointed and clean rooms, and excellent location (reminded us of the Marais District in Paris). Adam took care of every need, anticipating everything. Well priced and good value, especially compared to antiseptic, pricey chains. This is a beautiful family/run business.

We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Kutuma! The location was fantastic, close to everything we wanted to explore in Montreal, yet tucked away enough to feel quiet and relaxing. The boutique, personal feel of the hotel made it truly special. Adam at the front desk went above and beyond from the moment we arrived. He greeted us with coffee and croissants, which was such a thoughtful touch after a long journey. He helped us navigate the train system, shared plenty of helpful local tips, and genuinely took an interest in what we had planned during our visit. His hospitality made us feel incredibly welcome. Hotel Kutuma exceeded our expectations, and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Montreal. We can’t wait to come back!

Very comfortable space - we appreciated the attention to the ambience in the room upon our arrival. The greeting staff were accommodating and polite and stored our bags until the room was ready. We enjoyed the comfort of our room, the bed and pillows were wonderful (one soft pillow and one hard pillow 😊) and the windows were able to be opened! I can't say enough about this hotel - great location, walking distance to many restaurants, but far enough away from noise and the busier downtown area. We will definitely stay again if we visit Montreal.

I picked this hotel because I wanted to stay in a more neighborhood like area rather than the tourist part of downtown. This was a wonderful hotel experience. The room was very comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly and professional (they were also bilingual which was very helpful for a non-French speaker like me). I got to enjoy all of the service of a great hotel while enjoying being near all the restaurants in Le Plateau. Speaking of which, the attached Nil Bleu restaurant is one of the better Ethiopian restaurants I've eaten at. Would 100% stay again.

We loved our time at Kutuma - the suite was such a relaxing home away from home and the staff were extremely attentive. It's a perfect base to have in the Plateau, which is a great neighbourhood to stay in due to its proximity to Mont-Royal but also its more relaxed, less touristy feel.

Super chic and comfortable with all the thoughtful details . The bed and pillows are top notch - what a good night sleep. We enjoyed our one night at hotel Kutuma in walking distance to many great restaurants and the park in a charming neighborhood.

Reservation That's the main reason I can't rate it with 5 points. I booked it twice. The first time, I made a reservation 1 month ahead of time. Within a week I reaceived an E-mail cancelling the reservation. A friend of mine who lives in Montreal called them and they said it was normal to cancel reservations when they are done many days prior to arrival. The second time, I made a reservation one week ahead of time. Upon arrival I found out they cancelled my reservation on the same day. The receptionist told me I should have known it since they sent an email. I explained there was no way I knew it since I was on the plane when they notified me. I wasn't going to check my Gmail at that point. I thought there was no hassle at all. The receptionist understood my position afterwards. The system accepted my debit card both times but it seems the last time they wanted to charge the total ammount to no avail and they decided to cancel instead. It is odd that the booking system accepted my debit card in order to reject it afterwards. The front desk agent gave me a superior queen room instead of the junior suite I previously booked. On a side note, they charged the junior suite rate in advance. I noticed the owner was talking to him about my booking when I was dining. Later on the receptionist came to my table at the restaurant, and offered his excuses aknowledging that my room was smaller than the one I booked, and that breakfast was on the house. The suite was given to somebody else, but I was going to be in an upgraded suite from the following day. Location I loved it. As a frequent business visitor, I wanted to stay in a different area of the city. The main reason I chose this hotel is its Ethiopian restaurant, that was highly recommended by a friend of mine, and is featured in my Lonely Planet. It's the best option for someone who wants to dine in restaurants on Rue Saint Denis at Quartier Latin and at Mont Royal. Both areas are a stone throw away from it. The Sherbrooke Metro station is closeby, but Downtown is within walking distance depending on physical condition. Safety The hotel provides an access code on the key envelope. There is no night shift clerck. I never felt unsafe. I left my key cards on the front desk when I left at dawn. Invoice I asked for an invoice the morning before I left. It was sent to my email. It didn't have my workplace name as I requested to the Sunday morning receptionist. That's an issue I don't have with branded hotels. I managed to add it on my computer. Room For one night I had a Queen room and for the remaining days I had the Junior Suite which was Heaven on Earth. It was beautifully decorated in a luxury Ethiopian style. I really enjoyed the comfort of a king size bed after walking and standing up for hours in a trade show. The service was amazing! Staff was very friendly, offered coffee and croissant every morning. The staff carried our bags to our Uber in the rain…. So incredibly kind! The room was clean, huge bed, huge tub, great shower with rain fall shower head. It was in a great location, 15-20 minute walk to mile end area and 20-25 to old town, 15 min to Mount Royale, cafes around every corner! Stop looking this is our spot!

I had big expectations according to the reviews. The level of professionalism and care in my arrival and the beautiful room exceeded my expectations I believe big hoteles should learn to design rooms like Kutuma. It will be my first choice in Montréal in the future
