Where to stay in Grainau

Love the surrounding nature, the breakfast buffet was always a delight, a big thumbs up 👍🏻 to the egg station chef! All the staff were extremely attentive and super nice. We had a fantastic weekend getaway.

I ’d absolutely recommend staying at the Eibsee Hotel and will probably find my way back there someday. The location is obviously incredible - right on the lake with gorgeous views in every direction. I was really pleasantly surprised by the food. Breakfast had a ton of variety, the afternoon snack was more than enough to count as lunch, and both restaurants served truly excellent dinners. Great wine...

We had a wonderful 4-day stay at Eibsee Hotel! Everything was perfect for our family. The food was delicious—even our 3-year-old daughter enjoyed every meal! The staff were friendly and helpful, always willing to assist with anything we needed. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable—we’ll definitely be coming back!

Amazing views from the hotel restaurant and patios. We opted for the cheapest room with forest views... but still enjoyed the food and views from the rest of the hotel. Breakfast, lunch snack, and dinner were some of the best meals of our entire trip. Hiking around the lake was beautiful in the morning. (We also went out in the afternoon but it was much more crowded.)

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Massage was great as was the sauna and dip into the lake. Going to the top of the highest peak in Germany was fun and only a walk from the hotel to the gondola. Restaurant staff did a marvelous job with providing good and varied food items given my multiple allergies.

Heavenly location, this is worth every dollar. Hospitality is subpar, but it’s mostly due to seasonal employees I would guess. Just don’t expect four seasons, but once again…the views and lake are worth any bad service. The staff does try, and succeeds in some ways so do not put much weight into my words. Really loved this hotel. Our room with a mountain view was so beautiful, very large with extra lounge spaces, and had a nice balcony. We enjoyed the sauna and wellness area, and the staff was very nice in the mornings at breakfast. Overall the hot exceeded our expectations.

Great place! Very beautiful location and the room was very clean and cozy. The view from our garden on Bavarian Alps and Zugspitze was breathtaking! Everything in this place was made with a great taste and tremendous love and this can be felt immediately. Only 6 km from Garmisch and 4km from Eibsee. We were actually walking to the Eibsee and the walk itself is simply a pleasure with beautiful views...

The final stop on our holiday & a characterful Hotel to finish in. Set off a quiet Street in Grainau this small well placed hotel was a pleasure to stay in. Breakfasts eaten in the garden were absolutely superb, we were just sorry not to be on 1/2 board to enjoy the suppers too(but there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance) ! A wonderful place to stay. Great views, rooms and the owners are very friendly and helpful. It is not a 5 star Hotel so do not expect room service. The breakfast and dinner are excellent and sitting on the terrace in the evening having a great local beer surrounded by the beautiful Alps is something not to be missed. Buses and trains right outside the hotel means you can visit many of the local sights...

For the price, it isn’t bad. But surprised that they didn’t have a coffee maker in the room. They only accept reservations by 3:00 pm. Friendly staff and good parking. Very close to outdoor sport activity in the area. The view of the mountain is priceless

We booked a room on the day itself, but everything was readied for us when we got there. I even requested to add an extra person to the room when we arrived, and it was prepared immediately. The 2 bedroom unit was spacious and comfortable, and breakfast was really good! Most importantly, the hosts Erik and his wife were super friendly and welcoming. Absolutely recommend!

Very nice hotel. Family run business with excellent service and hospitality. We stayed in a apartment and had amazing views, the only downside were the pillows are too soft (pancake flat, seems to be a Europe thing)and the shower head was broken but still functional. Would definately recommend a stay.

I stayed on my bike ride here and was completely satisfied. Except a hair dryer in the room is everything available, what you need as a cyclist. Price-to-performance ratio is good. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Friendly staff and very good service all in all! It is a very big hotel quite different to what is described online, but in the end, we were very satisfied with our stay! It has a very good connection to all the local small villages with the little train.

I stayed here alone on a leg of my road trip around Germany. Parking was easy and readily available. First of all, the pictures really do not do the location justice. I got a mountain view room (highly recommend; why come here and not have a balcony in the shadow of Zugspitze? If you want to enjoy the GAP area this is a perfect location. Grainau and Längenfelder Hof is a great choice for alpine scenery. You can get here by the small train and will do well without a car. I recommend you rent bicycles (electric or other) as you have access to great roads and paths.

Very ,very suited for our stay !! In walking distance of everything: toxic lake ,and Garmisch (with its fish cafe store) and the famous gorge with a stream . What are transitional Hiking for 5-6 hours !!! And in the evening we had tea with warming liqueurs , pool and baths . Breakfast Deluxe . To the bus 5 min walk to the tourist train 15-20 min . Wow wow wow! This is the best ski accommodation I have stayed in. Couldn't recommend it more. The food, the service and facilities are a step above the rest.

The location of the hotel is simply top-notch. The house is furnished with much love to Detail. The Boss and the entire staff is always concerned about the well-being of their guests. The house is highly recommended!!!

Loved staying right on the mountain side! There are a few things located around the hotel dining/hiking which was nice as well. The natural pool was also a highlight. Would definitely come back!

OMG! This was the most wonderful place to stay. The staff made us feel like family. We love the Bar area and our balcony was so peaceful. We didn't want to leave.

This place was amazing! It has a rustic yet modern feel. Only was there for one night, but if time was available I would have extended my stay. Lots of room; parked 2 cars; balcony with beautiful Mountain Views. Fresh baked rolls delivered every morning!

The apartments are very comfortable, we were 2 adults and 5 children. Everything you need for life is available, warm and wide. The area is quiet, through the windows and balconies with wonderful views of the mountains, yet close to everything you need - shops, ski slopes. There is a parking possibility even with a minibus. We definitely recommend both a small company and a big company.

We liked that we could walk to town, where restaurants were plenty, and was a very short drive to the Zugspitze. But above all this, we absolutely love the Mountain Views, the beautiful flowers and the peace and quiet.

The front office staff are some of the nicest and most accommodating we had on our trip. They help with anything you need. The only little problem with the room was that there was no air conditioning in the room so it got a little stuffy and hot in the night time.

We spent a new years holiday at the Waxenstein and really enjoyed ourselves. The rooms a comfortable and clean and the bar is great. The location and view is very nice. Grainau is a great little town and the train will take you here.

Love Quellenhof!! We stayed at Quellenhof Hotel 3 times during the weeks we visited our son in Garmisch. Each time we stayed on a different floor - every floor has a beautiful view of the Alps! I recommend this to those who are traveling to Zugspisee or Alpspisee by rental car. It is a little far from the city, but you can see the morning sun and sunset over the snow-covered mountains from the hotel. There is also a small lake if you take a walk right near the hotel. In particular, you can walk to the mart right in front of the hotel and there is a local German restaurant 10 minutes away...

A great hotel right in the heart of the city among many facilities, restaurants and tourist sights. The breakfast was great and the hotel gardens in the back delightful. The rooms were beautiful and although the bathrooms were dated, they were historical and authentic, but very clean and a joy to use.

The best vacations we've ever had. Very welcoming place in a quiet neighborhood. Just great view on the Waxenstein mountain and Zugspitze. Just around the corner a great reasyaurant with great food.

Yes the hotel is old but I've stayed here 4 times in past few years and my rooms have always been super clean and comfortable. The owners are friendly and professional. I'm not German speaking but do not have communication problems. I think it is super value for money.

I spend 4 nights on Grainau, with outdoor temperature high positive, but always at one digit, as is usualy up in the mountain in late september. Due to putin action heating is not coming as before inside the hotel in Europe, but quilt at Garni Post was so amazing, light and worm. With a Garni Post Hotel quilt you do not need natural gas from russia.

Our vacation here was 5-star in every way. Verena and Ander were fantastic hosts and very welcoming! We stayed 1 week at Hotel Post Grainau, end Januar and enjoyed our stay very much! The owners are guestfriendly and helpful and the hotel is very quiet. They have a space for storing ski equipment and you easily reach the hotel by Zugspitzbahn-train or bus (included in price of the stay thanks to the Grainau-card they give you at check-in). We had in the Hotel zur Post is a holiday. Good Price/Performance Ratio. Very nice and everything fashionable Hotelier. Is even in the power range of MTB racing and offers its guests guided MTB-tours.

We stayed in the Zugspitze apartment in Grainau at the beginning of January 2023 (small holiday home). We are super happy. The landlords are very nice, the apartment was great. Beds very comfortable, baby cot available and everything you need is there. The bathroom even had a tub :) . We'd love to come back! THANK YOU for the great stay with you!

I stay here a while ago but im telling you this place is super awesome the guy and lady running this place where great. It was like home i super like it, really respectful and they really take care of you.

Very cute hotel with everything you need and in a good location. The thing that sets this hotel apart is the absolutely incredible service they provide. We were blown away with how willing the staff were to help with whatever the situation (from transport advice to last minute covid test requirements). Highly recommend! And thank you once again!

I loved everything about this hotel. The location is the best and all the good spots are easily accessible with the bus. Restaurants and other shops are also 2 minutes away by feet. The host was super friendly and the hygiene was well maintained everyday. Loved it will definitely come back. :)

Absolute friendly environment, quiet, and great location. 5 minute walk to the town where you can walk as a family, public trans included with hotel and was great to get to the lake we wanted to go to. Within 10 min drive to city center for shopping and other things. Staff was great. They even provided bedding for my son and personal place mats with silverware for my son at breakfast. So conveniently located in Grainau, moments from the Eibsee, the gondola and fabulous hiking. Excellent chef on site for dinner...no need to go anywhere else!

Good food, in particular, I have never eaten such a excellent salad. Slightly higher price level, however, is quite acceptable. A Bar, as Google says, it's not. It is a Board with a really good Restaurant. Go! It is not to schwäbisch.

We stayed here for two nights in May 2014. The owners were very hospitable and helpful. The home is a perfect example of Bavarian. Our rooms was quite lovely with a porch outside the French door. We enjoyed two delicious breakfasts as well as a delicious dinner on our first night. We plan to return next year.
