Porto Marina Resort & Spa Al Alamein

Very disappointed in the overall service. We came right after the season for the location ended, expecting they'd at least have options available to accommodate what guests they are receiving. I mean, that's to be expected if you're still open and taking reservations, right? Wrong. Absolutely terrible experience.

No restaurants on-site are open except two. One is open at normal hours and operating the way it should be. Beautiful location with some tables right on the water, in the sand, but they've allowed it to be trashed, so it's difficult to enjoy. The other restaurant is supposed to be open at... I don't know. No one seems to know. And when it does open, they're hardly paying attention to guests. Just kids hanging with their friends instead of actually working.

The hotel restaurant is small and, disappointingly, has a tiny breakfast selection. They couldn't even offer real coffee--hot water, nescafe singles. That's your coffee. Fine enough when all other restaurants are open. Not so fine when there are no other options. Logically, if you're still accepting guests, you need to be prepared to accommodate or close down the whole hotel at the end of each season. Bare minimum is unacceptable when there's nothing else to choose from.

Even the girl at the front desk, Nur, who seemed professional, gave us her number in case anything pops up. Called her to check on timing for the latter restaurant, and though she promised she'd call us back with answers once she got in touch with someone, we didn't hear back. So we got stuck eating at the trashed beach restaurant with annoyingly few options for a second evening in a row, starving and desperate as we were. Starving guests is not a good look for a hospitality business.

No lunch options anywhere on the premises or in the vicinity, and you're still offering guests a stay with breakfast only? That shouldn't even be allowed.

This place needs serious help.

The hotel has a few shortcomings.
- The bathroom is not very clean, the rooms are missing carpets and the general atmosphere is not very pleasant.
- The phones weren't working during checkout, so we had to take our luggage ourselves.
- Nobody asked us about our stay or if there was anything that bothered us.
- The food selection is poor and there's not much variety.
- For the same price, I'd go to Hurghada and stay at one of the all-inclusive resorts.
Pros: The beach is amazing.
