Reviews
It appears that there was the "Bal des pompiers" in town, which is a big party in Annecy. Despite the slightly remote location of the hotel, the valley makes the sound travel far, which translated into hearing the music and comments of the DJ very clearly in my room, with windows close, and this until 3am. After complaining at the desk the day after, I was told that this was indeed unfortunate but it happened regularly when there was parties in town, and that we could discuss the matter further upon checkout. While some of the staff seemed genuinely sorry and wanted to help, the person in charge refused to make any decent gesture. They only accepted to waive 1 night of parking (9 EUR). Considering they advertise the hotel as "sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the city. Your haven of peace..." but that I still lost one night of sleep due to a party in town, I find it outrageous that this is the only gesture they deemed necessary. Furthermore, it seems that they are aware of the problem, and yet, as a 4 stars hotel, still gaslight clients and don't invest in proper windows.
So my advice to you, check the calendar of festivities in town before booking your "unique experience, in the heart of nature, combining charm, luxury and environmental commitment", because you might find yourself in the middle of a town party instead.
The good:
Grounds - Set in a lovely spot with picturesque views of the lake.
Pool - Superb. Nice temperature, great views.
Cleanliness - The hotel is really clean.
I think that's about it unfortunately.
The Bad.
Rooms – The rooms are made up nice but this is all lost as there is absolutely no space to hang/store clothes! Worst hotel we have ever stayed in for this. There was only a 15cm rail for both of us to hang our clothes for a 6 day stay. No shelves for socks etc, we had to live out of our suitcases for our whole stay.
Prices – As an example, $16 euros for a beer. Come on, that's just taking the proverbial.
Service - So the staff were nice, but they were ineffective. I lost count the amount of times I had to wait 10 minutes at the bar, as staff were say hovering, they would finish hovering before they would then come over and serve me. Really bad.
Michelin stared. Due to the above, we decided against eating at the Michelin stared restaurant. I am sure the service for this would have been much better, but it would have made us even angrier for it to then return to normal the next day when we was at the pool !
Food - Menu was mwah. No snack bits you could have at/beside the pool
Paid Parking – Come on, they have an ANPR machine at parking gates that charges you 50 cents an hour – really? It just reeks bad taste. Charge me for the week or whatever, not for the hour. Feels like I was in a London car park.
We can’t recommend this hotel. If you have booked, don’t sweat it, just plan to eat out somewhere every night and you’ll be fine.
Stupidly expensive for drinks.
Some staff were amazingly good. Some were just rude and incompetent.
Great location and facilities.
Service was amazing throughout, we had a few drinks around the pool, any queries we had were answered promptly. Breakfast was good with lots of fresh local produce - only slight disappointment was having to use coffee machines and not getting freshly brewed coffee brought to us.
The grounds are incredible and the numerous facilities are all stunning. We did not have the opportunity to try La Rotonde restaurant as it was shut for a break but the views are again breathtaking - another time!
Slight potential issues: there was a wedding on the last day of our day, so the peace and quiet from the rest of our stay was slightly interrupted - something to bear in mind on weekend stays.
The walk into town is great using the little shortcut in the forest, however the way back is much harder on the steep inclines and the walk would not suit people with mobility issues or poor cardio.
