Hotel Carlton in Lille

Overall this place was let down by the very poor customer service and tiny bathroom.. The good things are the bedroom itself with a comfy bed and the view which I think is basically what you're paying for.. But for a four star hotel in France I would expect far more.. The room lacked a mini bar or mini fridge. You get these as standard in many other less highly rated hotels.. Then the bathroom was so tiny you could hardly move in there.. It really was like a bad bathroom in a one star hotel or student accommodation! Then we come to the lack of great customer service that I'd expect from this type of hotel. I had been promised a call when my room was ready, no such call happened and I went back on the chance it was ready which it was.. Then I requested a wake up call which I did not receive. A serious matter as I had an early train to catch. On checking out I was then charged near 30 euros for a breakfast I did not have , I challenged this which took some time to show evidence of my rate and for him to rethink the matter, the reception then eventually just said oh I thought you had.. This was a one night stay and I was checking out very early indeed, way before any breakfast even started. I was asked if I had anything from the mini bar which also didn't exist.. The reception guy spoke no English, that didn't trouble me as I speak French but I would expect that of a four star hotel. Overall then very disappointing, overpriced and very poor customer service, the good location means overall two stars is generous!
