Royal Yao Yai Island Beach Resort - SHA Extra Plus

I honestly don’t understand these good recommendations here. First of all the good things: the room was very clean and comfortable and also the staff was very helping and friendly. The pool area is nice. The location directly at the beach is also cool even though the beach is very dirty with a lot of plastics we found there.
Now, what I really do not understand is where the 5 stars should come from. This resort is far away from 5 stars. It lacks many things: starting from the gym which is not only very poorly equipped but also not usable as there was a very disgusting smell in the whole building and some of the stuff looked to be very very old.
Many parts of the resort park are poorly maintained. The breakfast is not even 2 star worthy. We have even slept at none-star hotels around Thailand and had really good breakfast!
The prices were extremely high for Thailand on the resort which refrained us from consuming anything there. There are a lot of things this resort needs to learn in terms of customer centricity. Another thing: there was no drinking water provided except for one 0,5l bottle - even in hostels they provide drinking water as much as people want. Not acceptable for me in a 5 star resort.
If somebody looks for pure relaxation and just hanging out at the beach and pool all day, it’s okay . I personally would not book again for that price.

The position is very good, the best of the island. The resort is a disaster, absolutely not worth the cost. Low quality service, totally missing during the day (if you stay at the pool or beach and need something, there is no one to ask). The breakfast is a nightmare (few food choices, not enough tables and cutlery, 30' queue for coffee and eggs). We've been here in February, the cost was very high, it has been a disappointment. We will not come back.
