Reviews
Why couldn’t this have been done before our arrival? so, we went into a rather cramped room. One of the advantages is a panoramic view of the ocean. One of the minuses is that the toilet is separated from the shower by a transparent partition. Melia seems to have a special concept of “romance.”
So, the list of problems in the room
1. Bathtub, in which the plug does not work
2. Telephone for contacting the reception, which stopped working on the third day
3. Electricity, which worked intermittently
4. We spent one day without hot water
5. In the evening there was not enough lighting and the light bulb above the sink did not work
6. Hairdryer that sparked when turned on.
7. The Internet did not work well.
the staff was friendly and resolved issues quickly.
But I came to relax, and not to solve management issues regarding savings on high-quality room renovations. I wrote a long letter to the hotel manager. Riccardo Maglione (manager) replied that he checked the room and did not see any problems.
Apparently, Melia's standard is for a guest to rest in a room without a telephone, hot water or Internet, as well as a bath without a plug.
I do not recommend the “Romantic” rooms to you, and suggest renaming them to the “Suffering” rooms.
We booked this hotel after our safari on the mainland. Unfortunately the standard of this five star hotel is below what is offered on the mainland. The rooms are quite spacious and the bed comfortable, however you can see that the rooms might need remodeling. The water smells like sulfur, which is not very pleasant. Although the provide drinking water for brushing your teeth, it is still nasty showering and washing your face with that water.
What we really appreciated is the very attentive and extremely friendly staff. They made our stay very nice and we felt very welcomed due to them.
One should be aware that this hotel feels more like a club hotel with lots of activities.
The beach is really nice, however only reachable by golf cart and the hotel overall is clean as well. However I would not recommend it if you are only coming for a beach holiday, as the standard is not five star.
The mosquito net would not stay closed, so we were eaten alive.
Whenever we had do not disturb on, it was ignored. They would not stop knocking until we answered.
I canceled my first reservation (refundable) in order to change the dates. They would not answer emails regarding my refund and once we were there, we had to chase them down for 3 days to make sure it happened.
