Maru Maru was a great find for our group trip to Stone Town. The location was great. We enjoyed the roof top restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend and stay there again.

I booked this hotel for my Mother while she was in Zanzibar. She loved the place. The room was large and very clean. The restaurant offered delectable dishes. When she arrived there was some confusion with the booking. The front desk was so kind and helpful to my Mom and made her arrival a pleasure.

Worth a stay but set your expectations right.
Stone town is historical and quite a unique vibe. Loved walking up and down the stone baths between tall buildings with souvenir shops on the ground floor and private residences up top.
Hotel itself is nothing spectacular but it does the trick for a one night stay before heading to the beaches. Rooftop restaurant service is annoyingly slow and overall subpar. From long waits for food only to be served cold rice and red snapper. Even the fried were dry and cold… 😩the food could be fresher and overall service better organized.
In the morning, I hit the gym which is well equipped but overcrowded with machines by design. It seems obvious whoever designed it does not workout because 🙃 layout makes no sense whatsoever. IYKYK.
What I loved is the location as well as the vibe with art gallery and opportunities to interact with local artists.

I live in Zanzibar and like to spend my free time after work mostly on the rooftop of the Maru maru Hotel. The hotel management as well as the waitresses and employees, such as Hilda, are all incredibly nice, courteous and helpful. I feel very well taken care of. The drinks are all delicious and are prepared quickly. The food also tastes delicious and the view over Stone town completes the whole thing. I can recommend everyone to have been at Maru Maru rooftop at least once and have delicious, cool drinks on the roofs of Stone Town.

The Maru Maru is a hidden gem in Stone Town. The roof top restaurant is hidden away from view but does provide visitors with view of the ocean and harbor. The place is a busy and popular one so expect some waiting time when ordering.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
Menu offers a decent selection and Choice.
Wind down after your stone town visit and savor the sites and Sounds of this historic part of the island.

One of the better hotels in Stone town along with branded ones farther down the road. Great location to either go out to the dock or start your maze-like town tour Staff were smiling and welcoming from the beginning.
Breathtaking view of the town and the sea on the rooftop restaurant is a must see if you stay here.
One drawback was the air conditioner as it hardly worked so I had to leave the window open at all times.

Hotel didn’t disappoint - everything seemed to work. Rooms decent, air con worked, hot water available, bathrooms clean and stocked, bed was comfy, breakfast had a good range from cheeses, cold cuts, continental foods and indian dishes.
The hotel prides itself with the fact that its hosted many celebrities over the years - photos line the staircase walls leading to the rooftop restaurant (where breakfast is also had).
They have a small pool on the rooftop and a gym on the ground floor plus a badminton court.
Location is very convenient smack center of stone town and stone throw away from many of the highlights and landmarks.
Will be back.

We had a lovely one night stay at Marumaru. The double room was above our expectation. We got to check in an hour early. The room was very clean and the bathroom was very modern and clean as well. We left for an excursion and when we got back at night they had closed the curtain and put down the mosquito net for us. So nice! We ate at the roof top restaurant and where all happy with our food. The price range for a main course is 20-30 000 shilling which is fair for a rooftop and well cooked meal. We highly recommend this cute boutique hotel.

Loved our stay at Maru Maru. Beautiful hotel and close to everything. The management and staff take very good care of their guests. Roof top view is incredible and a lovely view of Stone Town. Pool was small but perfect for a quick dip. The layout and architecture is exactly as described and our room was very clean. Quick walk to Forodhani Gardens and lots of local vendors along Mizingani. Highly recommend.

One of the top three places in Stone Town for sunset drinks according to our tour guide. He was right, it was stunning, but busy.
We ordered some snacks (pitta/hummus/etc),the portions are small and expensive. There was construction work going on so it was noisy, but all in all, we wanted to see the sunset and have a drink and we did.
I would go back for the view but there are much better value places in Stone Town for food.
