Zanzibar, Gizenga Street, Stone Town 🧭 Map
Maru Maru was a great find for our group trip to Stone Town. The location was great. We enjoyed the roof top restaurant. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend and stay there again.
I booked this hotel for my Mother while she was in Zanzibar. She loved the place. The room was large and very clean. The restaurant offered delectable dishes. When she arrived there was some confusion with the booking. The front desk was so kind and helpful to my Mom and made her arrival a pleasure.
Worth a stay but set your expectations right. Stone town is historical and quite a unique vibe. Loved walking up and down the stone baths between tall buildings with souvenir shops on the ground floor and private residences up top. Hotel itself is nothing spectacular but it does the trick for a one night stay before heading to the beaches. Rooftop restaurant service is annoyingly slow and overall...
I live in Zanzibar and like to spend my free time after work mostly on the rooftop of the Maru maru Hotel. The hotel management as well as the waitresses and employees, such as Hilda, are all incredibly nice, courteous and helpful. I feel very well taken care of. The drinks are all delicious and are prepared quickly. The food also tastes delicious and the view over Stone town completes the whole...
The Maru Maru is a hidden gem in Stone Town. The roof top restaurant is hidden away from view but does provide visitors with view of the ocean and harbor. The place is a busy and popular one so expect some waiting time when ordering. Staff are friendly and helpful. Menu offers a decent selection and Choice. Wind down after your stone town visit and savor the sites and Sounds of this historic part...
Hotel didn’t disappoint - everything seemed to work. Rooms decent, air con worked, hot water available, bathrooms clean and stocked, bed was comfy, breakfast had a good range from cheeses, cold cuts, continental foods and indian dishes. The hotel prides itself with the fact that its hosted many celebrities over the years - photos line the staircase walls leading to the rooftop restaurant (where breakfast...

It was incredible. The staff was very accommodating, the resort is absolutely stunning, and there is lots to do on the property. The receptionist Carol is fantastic and I will definitely be coming back here. They made it first time in Zanzibar very memorable.
This is supposed to be a 4 star Resort. Our room towels were changed on day6. We had no fridge in the room. The coffee station was only filled on day 2 and day 6. Upon bringing this to the Resort Managers attention, her reply was simply," we did not put in a fridge because we wanted to save energy. There is no coffee in stock. And she will inform house keeping to replace our room towels." She also...
Great resort but giving it a 3 as they were busy with construction when we were there which is not ideal. Rooms never had any coffee only tea. Amazingly friendly staff. Great view of the ocean, not ideal to go and tan on the beach, but next to the pool and bar is great.
Great resort. Amazing team. The reason it's a 4 and not a five is because of the same breakfast menu everyday and the beach which is not great to swim in because of the mud like sand in the water. Lunch and Dinner on the other hand are great. Amazing SPA as well

A good hotel in the very center of the old town.
Great breakfast! Clean, cozy room in Stone Town itself!!! I liked everything
I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Stone Town. It is close to all the attractions. There is a wonderful restaurant on the roof with a view, where it is always cool. The food is delicious. There is a swimming pool and a coffee shop. The rooms are comfortable, with air conditioning, hot water and bathrobes. Cleaning is top notch.

Location is by the sea. Facilities and services are average.
Even the room with no sea view from the balcony (see video) was sold as a sea view room; the check-out time was set before 10 am, which was unheard of; there were a lot of complaints...
Very ok, I will carry your luggage for you throughout the trip
The price/performance ratio is good for an all-inclusive hotel in Zanzibar. The beach outside the hotel is very beautiful. The sunset is super beautiful. I spent three nights happily.
If you like the local style, this hotel is the best among the hotels and is highly recommended. Because it is right by the sea, there will be crows as your companions during the open breakfast. If you are afraid, just sit under the eaves!
The room is very big and the electrical appliances are Chinese brands! The beach is right at the door, so it's convenient to go out to the sea. The hotel has three swimming pools and the children had a lot of fun. It's very convenient to go to Stone Town, just a few steps away.

Decent clean hotel. Has wifi, free breakfast and air conditioning. Thr rooftop restaurant is quite nice with a beautiful view.
Really beautiful place in the center, walking distance from almost everything! I loved the breakfast that comes included in the price and the hospitality of the receptionist! The only thing is the wifi does not work in the 3rd floor and the hotwater does not work in the bathroom as weel.
Good location (closer to the center), very safe at night. Friendly and very helpful staffs. There were always check that we did not need anything. It was very nice of them and it made me feel more comfortable. Cleanliness is fine but room could be refresh as they looks a little bit outdated. Food was very good, we spent a lot of time on the rooftop (breakfast, having snacks and drinks late afternoon...
Beautiful hotel in the middle of Stone Town! Very good location. Rooms were kept clean and comfortable, beds came with mosquito netting. The restaurant up top offered great food with good service and the accompanying view was breathtaking! Also let us keep our luggage there while after we checked out and were busy during the day doing activities. Thanks for the great stay!
Rooftop view is nice while having breakfast and at sunset.
A nice place in the heart of Stone town. Very lovely view from the rooftop restaurant and the food is delightful. Not the best bathroom but you have electricity and hot water all day. The staff is lovely and always ready to help you. There is a everyday cleaning.

The rooms had a stale smell but generally clean. The food was great. The staff super hospitable and the ocean view was interesting.
The swimming pool was nice. The beach does not exist but the ocean view is one to die for.
Staff are nice. But facilitates are bad. Elevators always did not work . It was hard to carry luggages to fourth floors
The hotel is between the coastal town of Znz and Nungwi (actually nungwi is further but the traffic to town is crazy) They were kind enough to elevate our hotel experience with an anniversary set up
It's average, opened by Indians, the hotel doesn't sell alcohol, and most of the food is curry. The room is old
Very nice hotel! Excellent service!

We liked the place. Room was great etc. The elevator is funky, requiring patrons to fully close cage door when exiting. If not done properly, others can't use. Otherwise, the place was great.
Wide view, large room, clean and sanitary, rich breakfast variety
Very good! Good room, good facilities, good service. Right by the sea, beautiful scenery, convenient.
The hotel is built on an old house. To be fair, it is very unique. Some corners of the hotel are very photogenic during the day, but the shortcomings are also obvious. First of all, the lighting in the house is insufficient, especially at night, the overall feeling is very old under the dim light, and it does not look clean and hygienic enough. However, considering the price, it is still relatively...
Very close to the ferry to Dar es Salaam. The hotel building is very historic. The room is large and the sea view is right outside the window. The breakfast is rich. The restaurant is on the balcony facing the sea.
The room is quite big, one person can sleep in two beds

Excellent location and very easy to walk to from any area of Stone Town, would recommend
Very nice, impressive hotel style
Very nice house, or classical architecture like a museum, very quiet and comfortable, I highly recommend
We stayed at the hotel. We stayed in room 224. There was a strong smell of damp in the room. Everything else was fine.
Fabulous location. I enjoyed seeing all the curated old artifacts and reading up on the 500 year history of the place. The people were wonderful. The room was comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was modern and clean. I’d stay there again.
Such a lovely hotel for a very affordable price. Located in the city center next to those winding shopping streets, very stylish with the vintage furniture on the inside and incredibly helpful staff!

Review: enjoy the perfect Chicken Biryani at this restaurant with an amazing sea view in Stonetown. Food: the Chicken Biryani is a perfect blend of spices - fresh cinnamon, cardamom, clove. The other dishes are okay/good, but nothing special in particular. Price: expensive pricing for local conditions. The prices are like European cities (starting with ~16€ per main course). It's a toursit destination...
I was here in 2004 as an 11 year old kid and I still think about this place and their fries. The view of the night sky. The architecture. The smell of the kitchen. All burned into my memory all these years later. Thank you to the fry cook all those years ago.
Africa House Hotel is an old historic building in Stone Town. Great location, comfortable, spacious, beautiful room and includes a good breakfast. Good value price. The restaurant has the most amazing terrace overlooking the ocean to enjoy the sunset. Good cocktails and menu card. The staff are very nice and kind. Manas, the manager, has been most helpful for any information we needed. We stayed two...
The perfect venue to see the sun setting over the ocean. I really love this old place, cold drinks and a good vibe. Go for at least one sundowner
Africa house sunset bar sea view was amazing & historical place. have a wonderful place to fun & joy.. one of the best place in stone town. also have a Tanzanite shop.. best place to buy Tanzanite jewellers & stone.
Really nice Chinese restaurant in Africa. I would say this is not a localised Chinese restaurant as aChinese. Worth to visit if u want to have real Chinese food here.

Great little Annex hotel, to the main hotel tembo house (less than 1 minute walk between the 2) We had a family room which had 3 large double beds and plenty of space for 2 adults and 2 kids. Breakfast was very nice, with a varied selection. Pool facilities and restaurant were both great. Hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The front of house manager (Kassim?) provided a great service...
We stayed in a family room in the annex. The beds were pretty comfy and the bathroom huge. We had a constant supply of hot water and I liked that the fridge had cold water already in it when we arrived. This was topped up during our stay. The room had a safe, air con and ceiling fans. As two females we felt comfortable walking from the hotel to the night market and back late at night. There was always...
While the location of the hotel is convenient, it is in urgent need of refurbishment and improvements in customer service. The property is spread across multiple buildings, but guests are not informed in advance which one they will be staying in. Room amenities fall short of even 3-star standards, and if you're placed in Tembo Palace, the views are disappointing, overlooking a narrow alley and old...
Excellent hotel in the center of the old city. There are all amenities nearby - shops, cafes, souvenir shops. Good breakfast and incredible view by the pool 😍
Everything was perfect, from the welcoming to the beautiful rooms, comfortable, clean... You can relax peacefully even in the middle of the city. They take good care of you and help in anything you may require. I can recommend it 100%. You will not regret it.

Super nice and accommodating staff and the location is unique and quaint. Located in the heart of Stone Town, their restaurant and pool area are trendy and a hidden gem within the hotel property. Rooms weren’t great, but everything else was great for the cheaper price :) They also offer good airport transport. Very happy!
Good place to stay for a few nights. Comfortable bed, air conditioning is working, hot water, restaurant and bar is well priced and food tastes decent. Cute signs around the hotel and small gestures like night snacks left in room. I would say this is more of a good hostel than hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful, but people selling tours and cabs at reception are a little pushy, but understandable...
I stayed in the Antonio Garden Hotel at the end of a week's stay in Zanzibar and after coming from a few days by the beach in Bwejuu. The hotel is quite easy to find despite being in the narrow streets of Stone Town. The standard of the hotel is pretty good and I found the service to be generally good from all staff I encountered. The service from the bar/breakfast staff was quite abrupt and not overly...
Hotel was nice. The location is perfect is in the middle of the city centre room was okay you have a kitchen in the bedroom you can cook if you want. The bar was a really nice drink are cheap and the food is amazing. However the pool is not really clean the people working there. They are really friendly and always there if you need any help security was perfect one of the guys show us the road to go...
The best hotel in Stone Town in the price range up to $40! Buffet breakfast. Clean pool. Nice staff. There are no scales at the reception, we left for the airport with suitcases at random, it turned out to be 8 kg overweight. But the Zanzibar service was fine, they were just too lazy to be distracted by this;)
Nice, cozy hotel. The staff is responsive, solved our problems with local bandits!))

Stayed here while we spent an evening in Stonetown, lovely hotel with friendly staff. Rooms were clean and well-kept with the charm of a period Zanzibarian building. Private pool with loungers that you can be served both food and drinks at, perfect place to relax amongst a lovely manicured garden. Dinner and drinks on the rooftop terrace to see the sun set over the harbour water. Food was excellent...
Wonderful place in Stonetown, not soo noisy, super friendly staff, amazing view on rooftop, great beds and modern bathrooms. It's a fairly new hotel with a small pool which is quite private. I will be back!!
Great hotel when visiting Stone Town. Friendly staff. Good food and drink choice. Great location for walking down the harbour/ beach. Rooms are a bit dated and dark but welcoming after a hot day in the sun. Nice pool area again small but all you need. Not perfect but a good 4 star hotel....would stay again.
Amazing! Friendly staff. Delicious buffet breakfast. Lovely pool area. Close to the beach/night Market. Would definitely book again. I would however recommend the barmen learn how to make proper cocktails(not too great) Would also be nice if guests were able to buy ice from the hotel? Wifi signal is not very strong in the rooms but that was not major. PS: did not expect the 'government tax ' upon check...
Stayed here for 2 nights while exploring stone town. Very nice spacious room, and on the day we had a late flight they let us stay in another nice (but smaller) room downstairs all day. Great view right on the water from the rooftop bar. Central location. Was quite happy with our stay here.

In the core location of Stone City, there is a highly rated restaurant on the rooftop. It takes only five minutes to walk to the night market. The free shortbread for check-in is very fragrant and delicious. The room is clean and comfortable. I will stay here again next time I go to Stone City
The hotel facilities are very old, especially the ventilation system in the bathroom. When I was in the bathroom, there was a sudden explosion, which caught me off guard. The room basically has no view because the distance to the next building is very close, so all you can see is the wall. Secondly, the price of the hotel's breakfast is very unreasonable, 15 US dollars per person, the buffet has very...
The room is clean and tidy, the service is fast, the attitude is friendly, the cleaning is in place, the facilities are advanced, and the environment is beautiful
The hotel is located in Stone Town, and the car can only drive to the parking lot outside. There are signs indicating that it is easy to find. It takes five or six minutes to walk from the hotel to the beach. What I want to complain about is that the hotel's breakfast is nothing to eat. The restaurant is on the top floor. Looking out, there are simple and low houses around, and you can't see the sea...

Golden Tulip Stone Town Boutique hotel opposite ferry terminal is ideas choice for conferences and they offer the largest and most well-equipped conference hall in the area. With state-of-the-art amenities and exceptional service, it’s the ideal choice for any business event.
Room 204 needs an uplift. The bed isn’t in good condition, the aircon isn’t in good shape too. Broken shower head and the toilet seat is cracking. The mirror in the room is also very misty and there is a smell that just won’t go away. The service is good though, the staff is polite and attentive.
Excellent location, lovely and friendly staff with professional attitude. Amazing food on rooftop restaurant. Close to ferry. Room amenities were good. The bathrooms are modern. Swimming pool was refreshing and the breakfast has a lot of options. Overall I can recommend
What a nice little spot. Budget friendly. Friendly stuff clean rooms and air con. What an amazing stay
