Jupiter Hotel

CONS: The Jupiter Hotel was the first hotel I’ve ever stayed at without a mini fridge. We ended up having to throw away some good food because there was no way to keep it cold. I wasn’t expecting a mini bar or anything, but I’ve never been anywhere that didn’t have SOME way to keep your food cold. Speaking of cold, the AC wasn’t even effective. It blew air, and the temperature was up to God himself. There weren’t any drawers to put our clothes in, which I’ve seen in less expensive accommodations. This was essentially a Motel 6 with slightly softer sheets and triple the price. Parking was an extra charge, which wasn’t ideal given the pricing of the room. Don’t waste your time at the original hotel.
PROS: Jupiter Next was nice from what I could see, and they had amazing cocktails in the Hey Love bar on the ground floor. The staff were kind and friendly! Checkout was easy! The room was clean and spacious!

But no amount of chalkboard doors will make up for the lack of basic amenities in the Original Jupiter rooms.

Great location—I’ve stayed here before and loved it. This time, however, there was an issue with the hot water in the room, which was either scalding or cold. Despite a visit from maintenance the problem was not resolved so we were unable to shower during our stay. The front desk waived the pet and parking fees, but felt it was appropriate to still charge us full rates for our entire visit. I think being able to shower is a key component of the hotel experience and I don’t agree with how they handled this.There’s lots of fun hotels in Portland, so next time I’ll try a different hotel.

The rooms look nice and it has a nice atmosphere, but it couldn't shake its motel-like feel. The rooms are geared to being fashionable and included a complementary condom (a little forward IMHO). There wasn't a fridge or microwave for leftovers.

The rooms also include ear plugs in case the bands/crowds at the Doug Fir are too loud. They also stay up late. Also the walls are pretty thin so expect to be part of conversations that happen outside your room.

In general, the hotel is filling a very specific niche. Research the hotel before booking to make sure you are okay with it. I would not recommend it if you are looking for a basic hotel to lay your head. However if you fit the demographic they are catering to, you will love it here.
