Fairmont Empress Hotel, Victoria1 / 50

Victoria, 721 Government Street 🧭 Map
Stopped by and had a cocktail here and took photos of grounds, and inside was gorgeous. I'd love to come back and stay as I was on a cruise ship this trip. Great location! Can pick up shuttles here back to the cruise ship $8 one way pp. BEAUTIFUL PROPERTY. Also across the street is a great whale watching excursion, eateries, ect. Close walk to downtown & Parliament building.
We had an absolutely lovely and unforgettable stay at the Empress Hotel in Victoria. We stayed in one of the Gold level rooms, which is on the first floor, and features it’s own check-in desk. His was an incredible value for the price since we had access to the Gold Lounge which offered picturesque views of the bay, and the staff were amazing and helpful at every step. We also enjoyed high tea as well...
This iconic property is definitely worth a visit, even if you aren’t staying there. Have a drink or meal at one of the excellent bars and restaurants. The view of Victoria Harbour is fantastic, and the service is always friendly, professional and efficient. Don’t miss the sunset bagpiper (pictured here recovering from his performance at the bar). Also seriously consider experiencing their High Tea...
I’ve been in awe of the Empress since I was a kid. It seemed to me to be the epitome of Victoria. I was so excited to have the opportunity to stay there this month. However, it will most likely be the first and last time I stay there. For the amount of money one spends to stay at the Empress, there aren’t really additional perks or amenities to justify the price tag, aside from the beautiful historic...
We had a fantastic stay! Rooms are beautiful, comfortable beds and we loved the Nepresso coffee maker. Service is exceptional. The location is so convenient and walkable. Some of the complaints on the google reviews are laughable. I’m impressed by the staff’s ability to give outstanding each and every interaction.
The location is brilliant. In the heart of downtown. Walking distance to the wharf. The rooms were spacious, and the staff were very friendly. They have an awesome bar in the hotel that open out towards the front of the property.

Extremely comfortable rooms and overall a great time staying in the hotel the location was absolutely terrific, you are close to the parliament building the museum government street and the fishermen’s wharf. Almost everything you need to do is on 20 minutes walking distance from the hotel. And the view was absolutely stunning you can watch boats take off and sea planes land. If you’re visiting Victoria...
We wanted to love our stay, but unfortunately we were disappointed. We chose this hotel because it was our first get away as parents without our daughter, and thought it sounded lovely with the views and amenities. We stayed two nights. The room had a great view, but the room itself was dated. We also weren’t told at check in that there was no housekeeping for those who stay less than three nights...
Amazing location, feels like the sea planes are going to land in your room if you get the right one! Service was excellent and easy to walk along thr coastal path to Fisherman's wharf or the other way to central Victoria. Great place.
I recently stayed and attended a conference here at the Laurel. I was truly blown away with the positive experience. My room was exceptional with one of the best views in the city. All staff went above and beyond being super friendly and receptive. The food at the conference was to die for. Thank you so much and I am excited to go back!
Absolutely amazing hotel. The rooms are clean, bright, and spacious. We had a room with an unbeatable view of the harbor - we even got to see a heron frequent the shellfish beds in front of the hotel! Staff was excellent and made our stay great, and were so helpful when we forgot something in the room after checking out. The restaurant was delicious and we were always able to quickly get a table. They...
Had a dinner sent to our room with wine, it was fantastic. We had awesome service from all the staff that we interacted with at the hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel 5 times this year between May and August and have loved every single night. The staff are friendly, they remember your face, and your preferences! We always feel welcomed. The spa like environment creates a tranquil space that allows your mind and body to just relax. The relaxation pool and hot tubs are fantastic and with the 16+ age restriction the space is calm.
Overall was a good stay. There are a few things to note that we found were disappointing and inconvenient. There were no locks on the bathroom door which was weird. The microwave was "locked" during our three day stay which was super inconvenient. Another thing to note is that the TV only has paid channels and live tv. There is no option to log into your Netflix or YouTube which is unfortunate as...
My recent stay at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel was unfortunately not as enjoyable as I had hoped. While the hotel has some positive features such as the spacious and clean rooms and friendly staff, there were some limitations that detracted from the overall experience. One major inconvenience was that the main restaurant was only open from Friday to Sunday, which meant that there were limited dining options...
Beautiful property with an outstanding ocean view. The rooms are very comfortable, and each come equipped with a large bathtub and separate shower. The heated mineral pools are amazing. The service was excellent throughout our stay. Everyone from the valet, front desk, housekeeping, pool staff, etc. was very friendly and helpful.
My husband and I came for our wedding anniversary to celebrate one night in the Oak Bay Hotel. I've heard so much about it that i decided to try it out. Everything from the moment we stepped foot on the property until we left was absolutely exquisite 👌 ✨️. They provide towels, flip-flops, and a robe in the room. They provide cold water in the pool area to drink and towels for the pool. The mineral...
Absolutely everything here was luxury and comfort. Gracious and professional staff. Clean and hospitable. Room service is Lovely and they check in on you at least twice a day if you need anything. The restaurants in the hotel are delicious albeit expensive. The pool is relaxing although many jets are not working. Cozy high quality robes and cardboard slippers for lazying around. Beds were super comfortable. Shower was great. Very clean. Has a full kitchen in it, wasn't aware it would have that. The included breakfast is very complete and pretty tasty for what it is. Location is handy for taking the ferries and to parliament and the inner harbor. They will also hold your luggage while you are out and about. Not fancy, very few amenities, but a great value. Would highly recommend
Basic clean accommodations. Our room was large and comfortable and having a kitchenette was convenient. We loved being able to sleep with the balcony door open. It was surprisingly quiet at night. The location is perfect, close to all the tourist sites and restaurants. Breakfast had a good variety and was fresh. It's not upscale but fits the bill. Parking is free.
Nice hotel! Location is perfect, we had our ferry delayed they helped us to keep the car in parking till the right time. Bathroom needed some equipments like soap holders specifically bathtub Maybe a minibar selection? There wasn’t even a bottled water in our fridge But I loved the complementary breakfast Nice staff Maybe one little push can make this hotel a 4 star one Attention to details. One last...
I am returning from 6 weeks in resorts in Mexico and decided to stay in Victoria for a few nights before returning home. The Embassy Inn room was as comfortable - although smaller - as the resort hotels I stayed in. Very clean. Large bar fridge. Microwave oven. Safe. There are lots of outlets for charging devices. Comfortable Beds. Their continental breakfast service is good. It is right in James...
Really enjoyed our trip to Victoria and this was a great place to stay. The room was fantastic the staff was great. I recommend this as a good place to stay with a reasonable price. Good breakfast every morning. The cooks did a great job as well. You folks made our anniversary trip a trip to remember.
The staff was wonderful, very approachable, and welcoming. The location is excellent, well kept and clean room. There was a slight problem with the room we had, but it was all taken care of by staff name Chelshe. (we appreciate her efforts to welcome us and made sure we got the room we booked. Thanks for the 5-star service! ) excellent breakfast included, We absolutely recommend this place to stay...

Had a few glitches that were worked out immediately amazing friendly accommodating staff. Love the location. Easy to get to. Very quiet
The staff is wonderful & they even had a surprise doggie bag when we checked in with treats & poop bags with a case! The rooms are always super clean & the beds are amazing! My husband & I have stayed a few times as a little getaway & look forward to staying there again!
Having stayed there for several days over the past 5 years, I can admit it's an excellent, quite, clean and worthy choice. The staff will not bother you at all, always there to help you. I enjoyed their free-for-all jacuzzi and pool. Nice place near Elk Lake and Saanich. Bus stop almost outside.
The receptionist staff were not welcoming whatsoever. I wanted to ask a quick question but was left waiting to the point where I decided to walk away. I attended a professional event in the banquet hall. The room was a little dated in regards to the furniture and carpeting. The serving staff, in contrast to the receptionists, were excellent! The food served was mediocre but I enjoyed the varied selection...
Had a great experience here and I've never seen a hotel so accommodating to pets. We had a room with outdoor access and they prepared it by covering the couch with a sheet and provided a spare towel for our 4 legged family member. It definitely made us feel welcome and happy to stay.
The restaurant is great, it's called The Lakes and they have good breakfasts. The dinner is alright, but I like them mostly for breakfast/brunch. They can be really busy around noon, so the earlier the better.

Good hotel right at the center of everything! Lots of good restaurants and tourist places are near by. We were able to see the Victoria Day Parade from our room! Only disadvantage is you can hear traffic sound at night, if you are sensitive then book a room that doesn’t face the Main Street!
The hotel has really comfortable beds, awesome pillows, great water pressure, and atmosphere. There is a slight smell to the hotel that is not completely unpleasant. It kind of smells like old books. It's unfortunate that the parking is limited and the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. The hotel does have a good security system in place to combat the neighborhood issues. The staff are very welcoming...
Room was decent enough, but nothing special or nearing luxury.... the problem is you are paying luxury prices in summer season for a clean but budget style hotel..... close to shopping and food downtown, but also close to homeless sleeping in doorways and wandering around..... at the right price, say under $175 a night, not a bad option ... but with the high season rates you are getting really ripped...
This hotel was nice for our 1-night stay. You can park outside the hotel for 10-15 mins while checking in which was super convenient. The staff member who checked us in was friendly and helpful. We were provided with a map to find the hotel's parking due to the one-way streets. The hotel's parking is not attached to the hotel but not far away either. It is underground, safe and easily accessible. The...
Stayed here for two nights recently and found the location fantastic in downtown Victoria, the staff insanely lovey and helpful and the room cozy. Excellent hotel right in the heart of downtown Victoria. Hotel was clean, had a neat restaurant/bar, bed was very comfy and bathroom floor was heated! Mai was very helpful checking me in and out....well I don't think she was checking me out (haha). Nonetheless, it was a great location that is walkable to literally everything you need or want. Will be staying here next time I'm in Victoria.

Great location, within walking distance of waterfront, float plane, whale watch, and downtown. Very comfortable rooms.
GREAT building. Visit an old English Club, but one that allows both genders in. I have not stayed in the guest rooms. The common areas are what makes this place special.
Joined the club in March. Nice quiet peaceful atmosphere. Have eaten some awesome dinners. Five star meals and service.
Beautiful old world charm right in the heart of downtown. Especially love the rooftop deck and views.
Took a tour as we are considering joining the club. Our tour guide, Danielle, was friendly while being very informative and helpful. An impressive landmark, with rich heritage... truly beautiful building. Amenities were nice, and the location is amazing. Non members can book rooms here, might be a unique place to stay on your next visit to Victoria.
I went here for a work christmas party and nearly every part of the whole experience was amazing. Truly some of the best food I've had. BUT to be fully honest, the beef was not good at all. So chewy that if you went to take a bite of your beautiful sandwich that you just assembled, you wouldn't be able to pull away and you'd be stuck gnawing until something gives.

This was a wonderful, unique place to stay. We felt like we were transported back in time. The staff was very eager to please and did everything to make our stay memorable. The ambiance. It fully captured old Victoria within one setting. The room was quaint and beautiful, as if you stepped into a time warp. A truly quintessential experience! The library was another showstopper; we loved how it stayed open all night at your convenience to read books and nibble on pastries with port. It felt very regal but also as if you were visiting your grandparents home. Very cozy,...
This is such a nice place to spend a romantic weekend. We stayed in the Emily Carr room, which has a jacuzzi tub and a wood burning fireplace in the same room. It's decorated in deep rich colours and has books about/by Emily Carr to read as you relax on the chaise lounge. The library downstairs is stocked with snacks, wine, and board games to encourage guests to hang out and socialise with each other...
I can't say enough wonderful things about this Inn. The decor was like something out of a movie or magazine and the staff were so nice and attentive. We stayed in the Emily Carr room, which is highly recommended. We were served incredible breakfast both mornings we were there. This is our home away from home whilst in Victoria. 6/5 stars if I could!
We spent nine nights at the Beaconsfield in. The room was very spacious. Our host upgraded us to a larger room as the room was not being used. The staff was very friendly and most accommodating. Location was amazing - walking distance to everything but far enough away to be peaceful (including the clip clopping of hooves as the carriage rides passed by). Also it is amazing to stay in a historic building. Having a cafe and restaurant in the basement was an added bonus.
Beautifully kept historic building. Location is excellent! The staff all love the hotel and are wonderful to talk to. Rooms are nicer, cleaner and better than some of the big hotels. This is a must visit hotel. Yes, Emily Carr had lived here and died here. Fascinating to be a part of such an amazing part of Canadian history. We loved our stay.
The menu is fantastic, they have a great beer selection and amazing prices. The staff were warm and welcoming and very friendly. The building itself is full of character as it's one of the older buildings in Victoria, and it's also one of the most haunted buildings in Victoria 😉 I'm definitely making James Bay Inn a more regular place to visit
Overall our stay was pleasant but our toilet was clogged. We couldnt use the washroom for a while. I had to try to unclog it myself with a plunger (not my idea of a nice time in a hotel) but it didnt work. After a while, hopefuly, someone came to unclog it. Thing is, imagine if we had realised our toilet was clogged after using it for a messy business. It would have been extremely embarassing to ask...
Quaint, historic hotel in a quiet neighborhood, at walking distance from the legislature building, fisherman's wharf etc. Rooms have been maintained in old style, so there's old fashioned heating pipes running through the room but no thermostat. No elevator either for the 3 floor building. Plumbing is modern though but I wonder why they could not supply a kettle or coffee machine in the room. The...

This place is awesome! So much thought has gone into so many things that are important these days. We were particularly impressed with but being so bike friendly, no single use cups in the room, refillable shower stuff and 24/7 coffee and tea at reception. Staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly. I am rarely impressed with places like this but the place is an exception!
We love this place! We chose it because it cost less than the hotels downtown. It turned out to be the perfect place for a visitor without a car. Can't go wrong for the price here. We loved the slide, hottub and pool. We also used the free bikes to do a little self guided tour. Staff was amazing, helpful and super friendly. Only thing I disliked was that the street noise was a bit loud at night as were the people above us. I would just stay on the upper level next time.
Rooms are clean and spacious with a modern TV. The staff is nice and they offer regular cleaning. Great place for kids and it is in a good location. Only few comments, my plane was at 8 and the staff wouldn't let me stay beyond 11:30. An hour or two would have been nicer. And a bottle of water and some coffee in the room would have made it more pleasant. You wouldn't feel like taking a walk to the...
Stayed here back in August 2017. This hotel is awesome. The staff were friendly, the rooms were beautiful, and the location was close to a bus stop and in walking distance of shops. Our favorite place to stay in Victoria. This hotel has so much History and charm. Stay in a Superior Room with a real wood burning fireplace, yes it's real and you can buy extra buckets of wood. Jacuzzi tub as well with amazing water views. All for half the price of any other hotel and best location hands down in Victoria.
Clean, very friendly and efficient staff, and within 15-20 minute walking distance to everything you'd want to see near the old town.
