Really a classical, beautiful and perfect hotel totally much to the town. I truly love this hotel.

No English even basic. They didn't even try. And vanity products are very low quality and quantity. Why not put shower gel and a shampoo dispenser? So much better for the environment than small plastic low quality products made in China.

Fabulous rooms etc but if even slightly immobile...maybe not appropriate (but could be said of all hotels). Restaurant only open peak seasons. Very traditional. Breakfast was excellent!

We had a room with a tiny bathroom- the bed was reasonably comfortable, but the curtains were very thin, so we woke early. Breakfast was reasonable with an adequate choice- but the biggest problem was we couldn't find the place- I tried ringing but the lady didn't speak English- luckily the Tourist office were very helpful but due to the one way systems we had a 5km drive for a 100 metre walk. Maybe a smile from the owners would help, but none were forthcoming.

My family and I spent one night at the hotel and had dinner in the restaurant. The hotel is in a historic building in the wonderful Monschau old town, so to stay there was a special experience. The room had not been renovated recently, but it was very comfortable, quiet, and well cared-for. The restaurant in the cellar was attractive and enjoyable. Breakfast was excellent. I would agree with other reviewers that the staff seem to extend a warmer welcome to fluent German speakers.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would be happy to go back.

Like out of Hammer House of Horrors. Dark, very unfriendly and basic, not worth the money. Breakfast only just adequate, coffee awful, but rest no more than OK. Couple who ran it seemed to regard guests as an inconvenience and we did not see a smile or a greeting.

I love old hotels that used to be Grand but today have this faded glory appearance. Squeaky stairs and floorboards, everything is crooked, the bathroom is obviously squeezed in, in later years. But great beds, carpets and an amazing wallpaper job. Seriously, as a not so bad handyman myself, I was amazed by the perfect (I would say typically German) wallpaper job that covers every nook and crevice in the hotel. This is not sarcasm! It is wonderfully done. Also, as is the habit with these type of old grandeur hotels, old fashioned grumpy staff that will not hesitate to tell you off on your lack of knowledge. It is a bit of real life Fawlty towers. Love it! Fore sure will come back to this place when I return to the Eiffel.

Fabulous town that maybe generates a fatigue to visitors by the hotel owners.First place where we haven’t received an open welcome not helped by our lack of German. Could understand enough of where to park the car at the main carpark. Breakfast clashed with guests booking out so the lady was stressed and blunt at best for a request of water. Interesting building and with an upgraded room was comfortable with an antiquated charm. Reasonable price

This hotel is one of the best I've ever been to. The ambiance in combination with its location is marvelous for those who revel in all that is old-fashioned and frozen in time.
Keep in mind that the staff does not speak English and communicates efficiently and straight to the point. This can come across as unfriendly but is mostly not intended so. They are straight to business with little room for pleasantries which, when aware, is simply polite and forward. They are kind and run their hotel with efficiency.
We can speak German and this may help you tremendously: prepare some phrases beforehand, simple A2-level sentences can help you out a lot when struggling to communicate. Please do not expect all staff to be fluent in English. If you keep this in mind, your stay will be wonderful and a lot less stressful.
