Basma Hotel Aswan in Aswan

We stayed two nights in this hotel.
The location is really not ideal — it’s right next to a cemetery and a mosque, so from around 4 a.m. you hear the loud call to prayer and morning ceremonies for almost an hour.

The hotel was also under renovation during our stay, and the noise from drilling and construction continued until around 10 or 11 p.m. The hallways smelled strongly of paint.

The quality of the materials was quite poor — even the toiletries were low quality. The bed sheets were very old and rough, which made it uncomfortable to sleep. Even the beds were noisy; every time one of us moved, the bed made horrible creaking sounds. I even woke up several times at night whenever my husband moved.

We are not sure if we booked a twin room by mistake instead of a king or queen, but it was definitely not comfortable. The air conditioning only worked on a very strong mode and couldn’t be adjusted.

The bathroom was old with lots of stains, and the water was cold with no pressure at all. There were also marks around the toilet from previous guests.

There was no iron in the room, and the laundry service took a long time to respond.

The staff were fairly nice, but overall the stay was not pleasant — the room was noisy, the facilities were poor, and it was hard to rest properly.

Looks nice on the exterior but the rooms are very old. Aircon was very noisy throughout, bed was uncomfortable (uneven), service is average, breakfast is also very average. I wouldn’t recommend it for this price.
