Hôtel Edmond Rostand in Marseille

AVOID if you don't want to bring bedbugs home!!!! We were supposed to stay 3 nights and were surprised upon arrival with the presence of adult bedbugs despite a detector under the mattress and cellophane all around the box spring. This suggests that this hotel has already been contaminated by these pests and that their treatment is not sufficient! We therefore had to urgently find a hotel for the night and also the rest of the stay without help from the hotel. Although the management rightly refunded our stay, I prefer to warn because no one wants to spend the night with bedbugs and even less to bring them home.

I would like to start off by saying that I am not sure who wrote all of these glowing reviews, but they could not have possibly seen or been in the same room that I was assigned on the 1st Floor. Pre arrival experience was great - received a welcome survey asking why we staying, who was travelling, etc. Received responses back same day. I then got my hopes up and was excited for my stay. I sent a follow up email following the rail lines being shutdown and asked for information on possibly needing to cancel due to not being able to get there. No response. I thought "maybe they are busy, it is the Olympics and it will all work out". We arrived and were coldly welcomed by a woman busy on the phone. After about 8-10 minutes she acknowledged us and then checked us in. We went to our room up 1 level and I was shocked. Mad kudos to their marketing team here because these rooms like absolutely nothing like they actually are in person. It was a step BELOW, most hostels. Blank walls, a dirty bathroom and just an unwelcome space. There was AC so that is great! The walls are thinner than notebook paper. We heard the entire conversation in the room next to ours. They were not even talking loudly - that's how thin the walls are. We went to our event at the Marseille Stadium and came back to the hotel and checked out. We never even sat on our beds, changed our train tickets to leave that night and left. When we checked out, the gentleman didn't even ask why we were leaving 5 hours after we checked in. Clearly, we were not the first to do so and I guarantee we are not the last. The hotel IS located walking distance to the metro, but other than that there is not a single positive comment I can give. Avoid this place if possible - there are much better hotels in the area.

Save your money and go somewhere else. The room was disgusting with stains and hair on all the linens and pillows. No duvet. Several cockroaches in the room throughout our stay. Sewage smell coming from the shower drain. Toilet doesn’t flush properly, plumbing fixtures were loose, and “patio” looked abandoned with overgrown plants and furniture that was falling apart. The photos you see in the listing are not of this place.

The hotel is close to the port. They gave me a wrong room, which was already occupied. Rooms are small and very noisy. The breakfast is ok.

I entered the wrong date when booking this hotel. However, I noticed the error the second I submitted the form, and immediately called the hotel to apologize for my blunder. The hotel said that though they would like to cancel/change it, it was impossible since it was booked through hotels.com.

I called hotels.com that confirmed it was a “typo” and not a “change if mind”. They saw that I had already had another booking on this date. They just needed the hotel to tell them what the they had told me two minutes earlier, and the order would be cancelled. The hotel manager refused! I talked to the hotel afterwards and again they lied and claimed it was a technical issue.

I would be extremely cautious when booking a room at this hotel. Read through some of the other negative reviews first. Greed and dishonesty is a bad combination.
