Reviews
I’m generally quite difficult with hotels and this one is really cute, the personal is nice, everything is clean and there is AC (and a silent one).
The room I was in was spacious, clean and quiet and the location is one of the best in Paris.
Surprise surprise Americans, when you go to France… the TV is French.
Was here just for business but loved my stay here and will come back! 🌟
Firstly, the carpet is old and smells like someone's grandma's musky house. They have an elevator, but it only fits two people at a time. It's only three floors, but the stairs are so narrow that bringing luggage up or down will be tough. It's definitely not ADA accessible.
All the rooms are named after King Henry the VIII's wives. We were in Anne Boyle's room, which I think is the only "Junior Suite" they had. It is the only one with a view of the Eiffel Tower.
Thank goodness we only booked it for two nights. The sofa bed has a thin mattress that squeaked every time my kid moved. The room was so small we had nowhere to put our luggage. The tub didn't drain properly. The toilet room was very small and awkwardly situated between the bed and the other room.
We didn't opted in for the breakfast buffet. I took a look one morning and I am glad we didn't. It cost $19 EUR per person and didn't look appetizing. You are surrounded by so many other wonderful cafe options that I would opted to do that then eat at the hotel. Is a unique dining area where they have the breakfast. It is in their lower basement level so there's no windows and looks very medieval which fits into its theme.
The TV didn't offer much; the only channel available was in French. Everything looked broken or dirty from the carpet flooring to the bathroom shower compartments. Classified as a 3-star hotel, I'd say it's more like 1 star because it only offers a sleeping area and a bathroom. The sheets on the sofa bed were thin, and you could feel the springs when lying on it. The double bed was actually decent. It's located on a noisy street; we heard people partying throughout the night which we didn't really mind. Close the window and you don't even hear them. We needed the air so the window was open. There was no air conditioning or fan.
The only good part of the room was the distant view of the Eiffel Tower from our window. You do get that "Parisian" feel staying there--not suited for family or if you can't go up and down stairs. I imagine it gets really uncomfortably hot in the summer with no cooling options. Great location and the front desk were super friendly--just spend a few more dollars and you could get the same but with better sleeping arrangements.
I know rooms in Paris tend to be small but this room was pushing it. The shower curtain also did not go to the floor and made for quite a mess. Water would splash everywhere and we had to put towels down to dry the area around the toilet and sink.
The staff was very friendly and helpful though. The hotel felt very secure and safe as well.
I don't mind that the man at the reception was consistently grumpy. Didn't say hi or bye as we entered. That's fine, perhaps he was busy or having a bad day.
But, what's gotten to me, is that we were about 2 minutes past check-out time when we got a phone call to come down. In the rush that we were in -- made worse by the phone call -- we ran downstairs to check out and left some posters in the room. I realized about 20 minutes later, called the hotel and told them a friend would come by to pick the posters up in a day or two. He said that would be fine.
About two days later, a friend of mine dropped by the hotel to grab the posters, as discussed. My friend arrived, and the (new) receptionist was clueless. There had been no communication between the hotel staff about the recovered posters. So, my friend had left the hotel empty-handed.
I contacted the hotel to ask what was wrong. "We've found your posters" they told me. Great, well, too late, my friend was no longer in Paris. I emailed them to please send me the posters to my address -- I would pay for it, even though the hotel has already messed up the handover.
So, I send Tonic my address and credit card information to send the posters.
"We will let you know when we've sent them and how much it costs." Great! Except, they didn't. They did not tell me when it was sent, nor how much it costs, nor did they respond to the 4!! emails I've sent them asking about it. I called again, they answer and say it's been sent a few days ago -- no idea how much it costs, no idea on the status of the delivery.
That was one week ago. Still no posters have arrived, and still no one has responded to my emails.
This hotel is a joke. It is absolute standard procedure to be able to send things forgotten from a hotel, and they cannot even manage that. Hell, they can't even manage someone coming by to pick up the items forgotten.
So, if you stay here, don't expect much from the reception.
