Villa La Massa

Villa La Massa in Florence is, without a doubt, the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in. My husband and I spent a week here during our honeymoon trip, and every moment was exceptional - from the service to the setting, everything exceeded our expectations.

Even before we arrived, the staff was in touch to help plan our itinerary and confirm reservations for our stay. Julian at reception was incredibly helpful, managing every detail of our stay. Upon arrival, we were so happy to learn we had been upgraded to a gorgeous suite with a stunning view of the river. The entire property is beautifully maintained and walking through the gardens, surrounded by olive trees (from which they make their own olive oil), feels like stepping into a dream.

The on-site restaurant, Il Verrocchio, is outstanding. We dined there twice and enjoyed some of the most delicious pasta, risotto, lamb, and octopus. We even took a cooking class with Chef Stefano Ballarino and learned how to make different kinds of pasta. It was such a fun and memorable experience — and of course, we got to enjoy our creations afterward!

One of the most special experiences of our stay was the romantic dinner in the garden, where we were served by Mattei, who provided exceptional service all evening. Andrea, the sommelier, recommended incredible wines that paired perfectly with each dish. Dining under the stars in their beautiful garden with incredible service, food, and wine was truly unforgettable.

We also loved spending time at the picturesque pool. As a boutique hotel, the property as a whole never felt crowded, and at times we had the pool entirely to ourselves. The poolside service was excellent, especially from Ahmed, who was so friendly and attentive. The drinks at food offered at the pool are equally delicious and refreshing for a day of laying in the sun.

The hotel bar is another highlight and my husband still talks about the amazing Negronis he had there. Fun fact: we learned from the bartender that the Negroni was originally invented in Florence.

Every corner of Villa La Massa, from the lobby to the rooms, is beautifully decorated with a grand and opulent style that makes you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time.

The spa is beautiful, featuring a hot tub, steam shower, sauna, and cold bucket shower — perfect for unwinding after a day in Florence. Which by the way it is a quick 20 minute drive to the city center so private enough to be peaceful, but still easily accessible to the city!

What truly sets Villa La Massa apart, though, is the staff. Everyone we met was warm, professional, and genuinely kind, greeting us by name throughout our stay. Their attention to detail and hospitality made us feel completely at home.

We dream of returning to Villa La Massa as soon as possible — it’s a place that captures your heart and stays with you long after you’ve left.

The hotel is housed in a 15th century villa, currently owned by the iconic Villa D’este Hotel on Lake Como. The hotel has a small but well-stocked bar with great staff and bartenders. There are two restaurants - a trattoria and a fine dining restaurant. In both restaurants the cuisine is great. The hotel also has its own heated swimming pool. The hotel is located on a bend in the Arno River and offers a wonderful view of the river and the surrounding hills.

The team have a fabulous attitude toward their individual roles that was noticed and experienced at Front Desk, Housekeeping, Bar, Restaurant, Spa, Pool and Gardeners! Genuine care with warm friendly smiles and professional service delivery.

The food quality, freshness, taste, plate presentation and choices at breakfast and on all other menus exceptional. Excellent wine list and very well built cocktails from the bar, most enjoyable!

Overall a stunningly property beautifully appointed with fine furnishings, and color palette. Guest room amenities and towels, bed linens amongst the very best found anywhere in the high end luxury market.

As casually mentioned recommend changing mini bar opener and check closet door protectors are in place.

Basically, Villa La Massa is operated like a grand sophisticated private home with a big heart. We enjoyed immersing ourselves into your environment of comfort and hospitality. Grazie mille!!

What a great stay at Villa La Massa! My husband and I spent 2 nights here in September, and we wished we had more time to enjoy the property. We stayed in one of the river view rooms in the newer La Limonaia building and it was truly one of the most comfortable and clean rooms we’ve ever stayed in (and we can be particular). All of the spaces in the hotel are incredibly well designed in Tuscan style, and we loved that the main attractions in Florence were just a quick 15-20 minute shuttle ride away. The staff were helpful and friendly and we enjoyed spending time at the gorgeous pool or on the trails on the grounds after spending time in the city. We can’t wait to come back and will certainly be recommending Villa La Massa to friends and family looking for a beautiful, warm, conveniently located stay outside of Florence.

An Idyllic Start to a Tuscan Journey

I couldn’t have imagined a better place to begin a three-week vacation in Tuscany. Villa La Massa strikes a flawless balance between refined architecture, understated luxury, and genuine hospitality. The staff was both highly professional and warm, the gardens and pool area were immaculate, and the food was excellent. One detail worth noting — the pool was initially heated in late June during an intense heatwave, but after a simple mention, the team promptly adjusted the temperature. My only suggestion would be to extend pool hours in summer, especially when it stays light until 10:00 p.m. Overall, a perfect stay in every sense.

Our stay at Villa La Massa, just 15 minutes outside Florence, was truly exceptional. The amenities were amazing, and the staff went above and beyond to cater to our needs. The breakfast team was incredibly warm, and dinner was simply outstanding. The food was delicious, and the views were breathtaking. The gym, equipped with Technogym gear, was top-notch, and the couples massage was a wonderful treat. The bathrooms were stunningly spacious, modern, and beautifully renovated. The pool was spectacular, and the poolside service was excellent. The complimentary shuttle to Florence in a Mercedes Sprinter van was extremely convenient. Overall, it was a truly wonderful experience.

What a beautiful stay in Italy! The property is stunning, the rooms are beautiful, well appointed and updated with current electronic conveniences. The cocktails are very unique and delicious. The breakfast offerings were wonderful with great service and made-to-order hot egg options. The restaurants and food were amazing and we had a little visit from the chef to our table! This hotel is the place to stay if you are visiting Florence, as they offer a shuttle service into town. The staff is incredible! So friendly and accommodating! I left something in the safe when I checked out and they went out of their way to drive it to me in Florence. I will never forget their hospitality and willingness to help!
