Marco Polo Malta Hostel in St Julians

The front desk staff were very helpful and provided excellent service.

The hostel is a bit old, but at least it occupies an entire building. Upon check-in, you need to pay a 20 Euro cash deposit, which is refunded at check-out.

The pros are that they have separate male and female dorms, and the hot water is sufficiently hot.

The cons are that there are 12 people in one room. Some come back in the middle of the night, while others are using a hairdryer in the room at 7 AM.

The common area is on the fourth floor, along with the reception. The reception is 24/7. The common area is a bar, but you can't sit there before 9:30 AM because they're cleaning. If you cook breakfast in the morning, there's nowhere to sit.

There's a small balcony outside the dorm room, good enough to sit on. However, it can be quite windy and a bit cold.

Being in the south, Malta in mid-December has higher temperatures than other places. It was sunny for four consecutive days, making it great for escaping the cold.

There's a bus stop right downstairs, making it convenient to get anywhere. However, Malta's buses are notoriously hard to wait for.

It's less than a 30-minute ride from the airport. There's a McDonald's and sea views nearby.

First impression was great, reception staff are very friendly. As for the rooms it’s what you expect for what you’re paying, still great value either way, the doors don’t open all the way in the sleeping room so if you come in at night the door slams against a bunk bed disturbing someone inside. Thankfully I had good bunk mates and had no trouble whatsoever.

Secondly the free tour with Patricia, arguably the best bang for your buck, it’s absolutely free! All you pay for are the fares for public transportation (I paid around €5 for buses all day) and any food or refreshments you need. I can’t emphasize how enthusiastic Patricia is, always positive, always giving off great energy even when some buses were late. I’d highly recommend.

Location is good, amenities are great. Terrace is nice and most importantly swimming pool at roof was beautiful and cozy !

A nice stay. Our door got some issues but they had them addressed promptly. They also always have a staff to standby , which is very professional. We can always reach someone no matter how late it is. Although there were music parties at the rooftop bar, it didnt disturb our sleep. However , the location is right next to the streets and doors are thin. Sometimes the noises could be pretty loud from ppl at stairs and street , so don't forget your ear plugs.

Use electronic key tab for the lockers inside the room under the bed. Next to a bus stop, easy transport to the airport.
