Evergreen Laurel Hotel Penang
Georgetown, 53 Persiaran Gurney 🧭 Map
Nice hotel to stay in city area. Service is excellent. Has swimming pool, separate ladies and gentlemen jacuzzi, sauna, kids club, fitness. Room is big and clean. Air conditioning is good. Breakfast menu is good. Worth the price staying here.
The hotel and the rooms overall looks dated but clean. Staff service was at par with the usual 4/5* rating. Most of them are able to speak in English. Location is great with many local food available with ½ km and malls as well. This is the ideal location. For a holiday. The only strange thing was that housekeeping claimed they do not allow guests to borrow knives.
Ample of parking lots at multi storey parking at the back of hotel . Swimming pools for family. Sauna, jacuzzi (hot and cool) and steam room. (Separate for male and female) and children are not allowed to use these facilities. Two nicely painted tennis courts available. Cool kids room. Drink at the freezer is free to consume. Clean room with cool air con. TV a bit old and not many channels available...
Pretty old but bang for your bucks. The best hotel I've stayed in Penang so far. Great to bring elders and older adults to stay in. + Cleanliness is great + Room is huge + Heaps of Complementary drinks + Breakfast is good, worth the price. + Great location. Near gurney plaza. + Room has good sound proof - hotel is old, my shower had some issue. - room is a bit dark. - senior staffs were great but the...
Great hotel. Clean and excellent services from check in to checkout. Room requested for higher floor at 1219 is spacious, clean and excellent facilities. Love the breakfast and where else can you get free apples daily with complimentary mini bar. Location is perfect and gym facilities is great too
Attended a wedding dinner at the ballroom. Chinese course dinner is very nice. Service is good and staff are courteous and helpful. Wheelchair friendly. Parking lots available both outside and inside the gotel building.

As I took the room facing the sea, it is very nice. The room is clean. The staff are very polite and pleasant and efficient.
The most disappointing check-in experience! I would imagine that a global hotel of this standard would treat their guests with respect, but our experience was far from positive. After 1h flight from KL and 2h in taxis, we got to the hotel at 4:20pm and were told that our room (which we chose in advance via the website) was not ready! Almost 1,5 hour since the check-in time. There were a lot of other...
Overall great experience except that I had to call room service at midnight to get my bedsheets and blanket changed. However, kudos to the staffs as they were very fast and efficient in delivering their service. Not even one staff was rude, each and every single one of them were friendly and helpful. Breakfast given in the hotel was also tasty as there were variety of cuisine available such as Chinese...
Lovely stay. The staff were fantastic and helpful, the views are great, and the breakfast buffet is worth every dollar. The restaurant in the evening is also really worth it. The servings are huge and you can experience a bunch of local food in a ‘fine dining’ setting. Would love the come back one day. The facilities are a little tired (as you’d often expect from a 4 star Hilton) but overall cannot...
Sad to share the Hotel Ops (Facility) does not pay attention to the readiness of their rooms except the basic cleanliness … we reckon. And perhaps the mechanism of checking that the facility team(s) does their ‘job’ properly is quite absence. Good expression of kind hospitality is always around the hotel premise though. Ground Staff are friendly, and always happy to assist. The hotel does not has...
Friendly and supportive staff. Comfortable rooms. Delicious and affordable food. However there was a minor discrepancy regarding the hotel shuttle bus to the beach, which left me slightly disappointed. Despite this minor setback, my overall experience at the hotel was positive. The friendly and supportive staff, combined with the comfortable room and delectable food, made my stay memorable. I would...

What a great place to stay. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We even had a bath on the balcony ideal for the warm nights. The food at the restaurants around the resort was delicious. The swimming pools were clean and well kept. Worth paying a little extra to stay in the La Rasa wing. All staff were friendly and obliging.
Nice hotel. 👍good service beautiful retreat with lovely green surroundings. it's lovely to relax when there are several large trees providing shade. the room has an amazing view! Here, you may take in the breathtaking sunset. the pool is very large, was spotless and soothing. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, with lots of options! Excellent hotel. excellent service Beautiful retreat surrounded by lush greenery. It's nice to unwind when there are several large trees to provide shade. The view from the room is spectacular! You can enjoy the breathtaking sunset from here. The pool is very large, clean, and relaxing. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, with plenty of options! The staff is extremely friendly, and the amenities are...
We stayed for a week and our experiences were amazing and unforgettable. The hotel is located in a really quiet area as they have a private beach away from the open. On a clear day, you are able to get a scenic view from the hotel. At times we prefer to rest in the hotel as the beds are the best I have ever slept in. The room was extremely clean as every day the janitor was cleaning the room and provided...

Not worth the money and the beach is bad. The hotel is old and un-cared for. The hallways are dark, gloomy and the paint is peeling off. The room is old, but decent and very spacious. Bathroom is small - bathtub was not cared for. It’s very loud and you can hear footsteps and other guests all the time. Lobby is small but quite decent. The pool is mainly for kids, and looks pretty nice. However...
Older style hotel that needs a good clean and a bit of a renovation. We spent 5 days here. The grounds and resort elements are very good and well maintained. The rooms and other areas inside the hotel are a bit rough and run down for something under the Shangri La brand. Good location and plenty to keep kids entertained though.
Amazing hotel: a. Well maintained yard and pool area. b. Sea view rooms are fantastic. c. Food is very good (except for 1/2 items). d. Staffs are friendly (specially Bengali staffs are very well behaved). e. First floor rooms are probably not that great, we stayed in one for a night. f. Advise to settle room charges the prior night before departure to reconcile. g. Cars provided by the hotel for airport...
Stayed in the balcony room with the pool and sea view. Excellent service. The on-site massages were very good too. The location is near enough local shops and food places too. You don’t need to eat every meal inside. If I could change anything it’s the pool. The pool is not as big as it looks in pictures. But overall very good experience
Check-in took some time as the resort was busy, but the staff made us feel at ease. The service here is excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The resort even prepared some snacks and welcome drinks for us while we wait for our room. The facility is nice. The pool area is huge with lots of activities, though it does seem like it’s mostly for kids. I didn’t use the pool at all as there...
My first time here. The view is great! Room and bed is comfortable. Location a bit more secluded but you have everything you need around the resort. You can have street stalls to fast food outside the resort. Breakfast spread is good.
Best service! Staff so friendly. Thanks to the staff arranging my special request for my wife birthday surprise. We had dinner and breakfast. Both was perfect. The water park and pools are amazing! Our kids enjoyed the most. The room clean and spacious. 9.5/10. Minus 0.5 as I didn't get a right view over my balcony...

Love the cleanliness of the rooms and towels. Although our room had a discernible cigarette smoke odour upon checking in, the housekeepers were quick to help freshen up the air. That solved the problem immediately and we were grateful for the prompt response. Front desk was attentive and even followed up to ensure the problem was resolved. Kudos to the team for doing this. At check in, the team member...
Room is spacious and cleanliness although the cleaning is taken place alternatively. But you can request amenities anytime between 8am to 8pm. You may expect the service is abit slow but steady. The location is the best in George Town as you go North East South West you can still visit night market. Ideally located and convenient. Distance walk though.
Room is okay, good service from the staff especially the security at main entrance. Very helpful. Strategic location where you can easily get Grab whenever you want. Very near to tourist spot, food place and mall. Great facilities, got infinity pool, however the view from pool not really great. Housekeeping service can be improved. The do not clean room everyday due to alternate day housekeeping....
Comfortable stay and I loved the decor in their bathrooms as well! They had a false ceiling light which gave a very cosy feeling. Staff was friendly and helpful! They have free parking even for rented cars, do note that the car park lift is separate from the hotel lobby lift. Convenient location as well! It's on the left side of the road and quite near the traffic so you gotta cut lanes quite quickly
Stayed for five days. Overall a great experience. Receptions are super polite and accommodating for all of my needs, housekeeping doing a good job. Breakfast and in-dining are delicious. Loves their omelette and salmon. Pool with city view, relaxing. Superb location. Recommended and would stay here again.
The hotel was very reasonably priced compared to other hotels in Penang and the rooms was well kept and clean and breakfast was excellent. Would recommend to anyone who wants a good place to stay at very reasonable pricing.

Georgetown, 33 New Lane (Off Macalister Road) 🧭 Map
It's a pretty good hotel, close to shops and an easy drive to all shopping centres. Food is great both close and far.
Location is perfect for me as it is located in the city, easy to travel around. Staffs are polite and friendly. Room is cozy and I'm so lucky to get a room with perfect view of the whole city. However, during night time, it would be difficult to drive out as there are food stalls nearby which block one end of the road, also cause the road to be congested.
Room was clean and comfortable with full amenities. The service of the staff was excellent. Even the female guard taking care of the parking was so friendly and helpful. But the buffet breakfast was so so. Needs a lot of improvement in terms of variety and flavor. The street food in Lorong Baru was just beside the hotel. If we go back, we would definitely skip eating in the hotel. Other than the...
The hotel is 3 star... The staff are really friendly and helpful, the room was adequate. Breakfast was not that good. Ok I get it I am European but a household toaster, instant coffee were just not enough. The location alone warrants a mention right next to the food / restaurant area...
Great hotel. Kind staff. Very clean hotel. The room and corridor carpets are getting old. But no complaint about the cleanliness. There is a breakfast buffet which costs around 50RM plus. The hotel has a free shuttle service to some of the tourist spots. You can prebook.
Great hotel!! Good location, near Komtar and on the doorstep of street food on some nights. Rooms were clean, all classic amenities are available. There is an equipped gym and a nice swimming pool with a jacuzzi. The breakfast was alright, choice is limited, the staff operating the breakfast were pretty lazy, they let items run out and were slow to refill them. Otherwise other staff were friendly and...

Wonderful stay in this hotel where l can shop till I drop in Prangin Mall, and The First Avenues which are walking distance. Jen Cafe during breakfast was very busy. The only disappointment was that vegetarian options provided are very limited.
Great hotel and the service is great, would have preferred to be placed in a better room as there was some maintenance works going on (a new bathroom being fitted) which meant there was drilling going on for 2/3 hours from mid day which was hard with a 4 month baby. The after care from the house keeping team was amazing Imah was really helpful in shipping out some left behind items and very attentive...
Pro: superb location, all within walking distance, no issue in findings place to eat. Suitable for families. great vibe. Cons: may need to update the policy rather than a blanket policy by Shangri-La (preference was ask but the options was not even available to begin with in Jen). More meticulous with customer preference and request.
This hotel is amazing. I stayed in the club family room with my staff for team building. Check-in was smooth in the club lounge, and the staff was very helpful in renting a meeting room for the seminar. It was not a smart TV, so there was no mirroring, but they helped me print out the PDF file with a printer. The cocktail hour was full of snacks and alcohol to keep me occupied. The breakfast was great...
Not the most newest hotel in Georgetown but it still holds for being situated at a convenient, secure location; just walk behind the hotel to a variety of food markets, restaurants, heritage sites and tourist spots. Can get a GRAB car within seconds. Reception was very considerate to give me a non-connecting room, away from the lifts so it’ll be quieter. Rooms are spacious and clean, and housekeeping...
The staff are extremely friendly and went above and beyond. They gave us an early check in without any fuss. Always greeting us with a warm smile. The room is clean and spacious. Bed and pillows are super comfy. Water pressure is excellent. Location wise the hotel is right next to the 1st Avenue mall and other shops. Super convenient. You have to take one flight of stairs from the parking to check...

The location is great, rather central in Georgetown and many of the food spots we wanted to visit were within walking distance from the hotel. There is also a huge mall nearby. The room was clean and serviced daily. It is located on a quiet street so there wasn't much traffic noise even though we were on a low floor.
Need an email for contact information. Some of the rooms are next to a tyre fitting shop and this can be quite disturbing if one is late waking up. Rooms have poor phone reception. Dear admin: I have an issue with what I’m sure is lying at your hotel by staff. I’m confident you weren’t fully booked out except for 2 spare rooms when I arrived, and also I’m confident you weren’t booked out of every...
With its location near popular tourist hot spots and 3 of its mall within 5 mins walking distance. If you need to do some necessities shopping, you can always head to 1st Avenue LG village grocer for it. The family room can sleep 4 comfortably with dual hard and soft pillows and king-size bedding. Clean rooms and toilets are important as well. Service from the front desk was good too. What else is...
Perfect location which is near to mall and walking distance to street Cafe, jetty and museum etc. The room, toilet is clean and comfortable. Nice cozy welcoming ambience once you step inside the lobby. Would highly recommend for the great value for short staycation. What not so good: -pillow is not so suitable for myself. -Some equipment like hanging bar drop off easily which require repair and...
We stayed for a whole week and the rooms were incredibly quiet, which was a welcome break after staying in many hostels. The amenities in the room are very plentiful! The only thing is that some of the reviews are a bit out of date. The upstairs bar is closed, the whirlpools are closed and there is no welcome drink, wine, juice, or anything of the sort(although they still have a restaurant downstairs...
The Room was clean, and we were provided with towels, bathrobes tea and coffee sashes. The room is super quiet, and we had a good sleep there. Can't spend some time in the upstairs area which were closed. The receptionists were helpful, He gave the clear idea even you ask for some idea on the location or places to visit. If you are just wanting to have sleep at night and roam around Penang for the...

room was generally ok. well maintained for an old establishment. water temperature was a little erratic though. no hot water sometimes. other than that great location, walking distance to most places within Georgetown.
Our room was extremely big and it was really clean . The only down side is , since it is a boutique hotel, the insulation is not that great and you can hear people walking around up stairs . But overall it is perfect . Location is also good and easy to get around .
It's a nice place located at the heart of Georgetown. Very close to many hawkers' spots. We enjoyed the beautifully decorated room very much, especially the jacuzzi. I think the room is value for money given the size and the room comes with complimentary breakfast too!
We stayed at Hotel Penaga for 5 nights. The staff are super friendly and helpful and it's in the heart of Georgetown so really close to top tourist attractions. The aesthetic and architecture is really nice however I'm disappointed to say the hotel didn't live up to the photos and 4 star rating. It's such a shame because the staff were so nice and it has so much potential but I think they take for...
We got ourselves a two storey family terrace with an outdoor private jacuzzi in the backyard. Very good ID and spacious. But the building was a little bit rundown. I accidentally broke a tiny piece of a door from closing it. Water could leak downstairs so be sure to turn off the bidet whenever you're done. In terms of cleanliness, it was barely acceptable. The ground floor could use some mopping....
The frontdesk staff were very helpful and friendly. They helped upgrade our room to a better one, and my husband and I enjoyed our stay there. Hotel is located strategically, easy to find parking (off peak hours) and has a peaceful quiet setting. Also made friends with a cute little kitty

Absolutely love this Hotel with the enclosed courtyard in the Perenakan style. All rooms are unique in their own way and reflect the U.N.E.S.C.O World heritage buffer zone preservation system Penang has become famous for. Great staff, and management, lovely breakfast and housekeeping. All facilities work well and the building is highly maintained. Bring some wine and a book and step back in time.
Multiple weeks spent here in May 2023. Room was a top floor spacious room with a king size bed with lots of pillows. Lots of staff serving the hotel and they were frequently cleaning the common areas while another crew cleaned the guest rooms. Everything was well maintained and kept neat and tidy. I appreciated the 24 hour front desk staffing and they all spoke English. Each room has its own temperature...
Very good service, hospitality like friends take care friends. Clean room and very convenient to access the attraction point. Applause to the gorgeous unique decoration& beautiful furniture. As it is classic doors and windows therefore they are not sound proof and you will heard a noisy chit chat in the morning. If you have a good ears ,bring ear plug could help you to wake up a little more late
everything was just amazing at this hotel. The rooms, the location and the services provided were all outstanding especially for the price. It's got a great location that's not exactly in the middle of all the busy all night bars but a short walking distance. I love the fact that the bus stop and the food options are all so close. The rooms were very nice and had a nice historical feel. The staff were...
Areca hotel was reasonably priced and had a number of great amenities. The hotel had a lift, which was really convenient for getting around the building, and the water pressure in the bathroom was excellent, making for a refreshing shower experience. One of the best things about this hotel was that they provided a complimentary tea break, which was a nice touch and really added to the overall experience...
4.5 stars! The hotel is located perfectly in Georgetown,Penang. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had breakfast included in and the pancakes were so good. The rooms were very comfortable and good ac and ceiling fan. There is a sitting area which is really nice to sit or have some famous Cendol. The only remark is the doors are not sound proof so you may hear some noise in the hall...

Heritage hotel using a revamped bungalow. Nice makeover and good location with some free parking. Walkable to nearby tourist areas. The room we had does not have any chair and no hooks for hanging clothes.
I stayed there for 3 days in September-19 in the single studio. Best thing about it are the staff that are so helpful giving you everything you bed and giving you good tips on effete to stay. Jealous of good good stalls just a walk away. I did find the hotel itself is a bit aged. The hot water was not very consistent. For the money paid i think ours ok.wouldn't say the best value for money.
First, i book this hotel at one of online travel site. Saw all the photo at the site and look very good. When i arrived, i was shocked with the hotel, and my expectation drop, because the hotel look far from my expectation from outside, but after i go in to the reception area, my view slightly change. and when i go to the room, the room look so glamorous. Very spacy and good. The service is okay...
It's not too bad for its price range. Bed is decent. However, upon entering the room, there is a very pungent smell. No towels and no toilet paper. Had to request and wait quite a while for them. Could very audibly hear foreign workers chit chatting and laughing loudly 6am in the morning, which wasn't pleasant either. Other than that, it's not too bad for single person staying for one night.
Situated in George Town, Penang, named a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO since 2011. This late 19th-century colonial-style house embodies a modern Victorian concept & elements of Van Gogh’s theme.
The room was very comfortable, super clean and the TV worked perfectly. I really liked that the make the room everyday and restock all the bathroom amenities. The staff is super attentive and nice. Good location easy to get uber. Definitely I would stay again.
