This review is at least 10 years late, but Google pics me took down memory lane when we visited the hotel's restaurant back in 2015, we preferred to eat here as opposed to the Double Tree Hotel we were staying that was about a few meters away (pity it's now closed) but the food was absolutely phenomenal, I vividly remember the lady chef (hopefully she's still there) served us like absolute royalty, we personally thanked her on our last day. I really hope they've maintained standards over the years

Charming Stay in the Heart of Stone Town!
We stayed one night at Beyt Al Salaam and loved its central location in Stone Town. Markets, restaurants, and major attractions are all within walking distance. The hotel has an antique charm with traditional interiors and a warm, welcoming staff. A lovely blend of heritage and hospitality.

I’m not sure what exactly was renovated in this hotel — it still feels completely rundown. The furniture is old and outdated; while the style seems to aim for a rustic look, there are limits to how far that can go. I’ve stayed here several times, and not once has the air conditioning worked properly. There are huge gaps under every door, which makes every sound from the ground floor perfectly audible even on higher floors. The location is very noisy, and with the old windows, it feels like I’m sleeping right on the street — every car, motorcycle, and loud conversation can be heard clearly inside the room. Some rooms are full of mosquitoes, which suggests no measures were taken to address that problem. The staff, although present, tend to be quite noisy and inattentive, especially during breakfast, which is very limited in choice. The only positive aspect is the location, but unfortunately, it doesn’t make up for the poor comfort and lack of maintenance. I will not be staying here again.

Great location in Stone town. Staff were very hospitable. I hurt my ankle and they found me ice for me. Very friendly, and managed to check us in early for no extra cost. Good sized room and bathroom. Would definitely use this hotel again

Great location for restaurants, the night market, tours from the beach and tours into and around Stone town. We walked during the day and night and felt very safe. The 2 rooms were large, beds had mosquito nets, showers and bathroom was clean with good water pressure. The restaurant was simple and great - fast service, good prices, good food, the free breakfasts were as expected - filling and excellent. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. We would recommend this boutique hotel. Thanks for your hospitality.

Overall, my experience was great. The hotel is within walking distance of the Forodhani Market, several lounges, plenty of restaurants, and even the port for Prison Island—very convenient! It’s a cozy and charming place to stay.

However, on my last day, there were issues with their payment system. The card machine kept saying "Offline," but management made it seem like I didn’t have the money to pay 🙃. This was frustrating, especially since the machine hadn’t worked a few nights earlier either. I was forced to go to an ATM, pay a withdrawal fee, and return to settle my balance—even though it was clearly a technical issue on their end.

When I asked for a receipt, their printer wasn’t working either, and there was no apology for the inconvenience or the way the situation was handled. I really think management should train staff on how to deal with these situations better, as it did leave a sour note at the end of an otherwise lovely stay.

From the moment we walked in, this restaurant exceeded all expectations. The food was absolutely amazing—especially the calamari, which was hands down the best I’ve had in a long time. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and unforgettable.

But what truly made our experience special was the incredible staff. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, creating a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. A heartfelt thank you to Khadijah, who went above and beyond by helping us rock our baby to sleep so we could enjoy our meal without rushing. That kind of care is rare and deeply appreciated. Aminah, the supervisor, was also wonderfully attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.

This place isn’t just about great food—it’s about genuine hospitality. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!

AVOID THIS HOTEL We had a reservation for 2 rooms from our travel agent with confirmation from an online booking service with receipt and voucher. We arrived and they only had 1 room booked in their system. The room was unavailable as it was morning so we went on a tour. At our return they still said there was one room only but they could not give it to us as we were 4 people! A trainee was extremely difficult so we asked for the manager who was also not very accommodating but allowed us to move our luggage into one room while charging us for taxes for 4. The room had no towels, we asked for towels which they did not provide. We provided the confirmation of payment and voucher and went for a walk. At our return at 9pm, we still had no towels and no second room. They were very rude and unhelpful. The hotel was empty. The room we got was moldy and stuffy. We booked a second room in an hotel nearby called Maru Maru which which was a lot better and cheaper Avoid this hotel

Good central stay
Very nice stay. The hotel is central and very near to main point and 4 min walk from the harbor where exceusions are. The staff were very nice. They upgraded our room for the first night.
Cons: it is written free parking however the parking is not free and despite discussing the issue, we understood that it is not their problem if it was written free in the booking site! So we had to pay 1000 tzs per hour.
In the common parts there is lots of mosquitos.
