We arrived at the hotel around 11:00 AM. The person at the reception informed us that early check-in would incur an additional charge and began explaining that the rate depends on how many hours in advance we check in. Even if we entered the room at 3:00 PM—just one hour before standard check-in—we would still have to pay. This is the first hotel I’ve ever encountered with such an attitude. We’re paying a significant amount for the room, and yet they want to charge extra even for arriving an hour early. Just a few days before, we stayed at the Hilton in San Diego. We arrived, were given our room without any issue—no one stood there with a stopwatch ready to charge us for every minute before check-in.
The room we were initially given was dirty and clearly had not been cleaned. My wife complained, and someone came to clean it. Eventually, they moved us to a different room because the first one was dirty throughout.
The restaurant closes at 9:00 PM, and the atmosphere wasn’t pleasant. We started eating at 8:00 PM, but at 8:30PM the waiter was already hovering around, cleaning tables, which made us feel rushed. That said, the food itself was actually very good.
Overall, the hotel feels old , with worn-out carpets.

BEAUTIFUL ROOM! We stayed in the executive suite marina view and it was GORGEOUS! Pool is a little smaller than we're used to but we also pretty much had it to ourselves so the kids didnt mind! The restaurant also has really great chicken alfredo. We'll be back!

I made a promise to myself that if ever I’m in San Diego I’m only staying on Shelter Island. And preferably at the Bay Club. My room was spacious and comfortable in every way. I think every room in the whole place has a great view and mine was no exception. I loved sitting out on my patio. The hot tub overlooking the marina was the perfect end to every day. All of the crew were very kind and helpful. I had an issue with a slow-draining sink and it was resolved quickly without any trace of a mess. I wish there was a rolling chair at the desk but all else in the room met or exceeded my expectations. My one complaint is that the bar closed early on the last day of the month which foiled my plan of a nightcap for the hot tub. I think that’s a little bit of a silly practice but if you’re going to do it then make sure your guests know. But other than that, it would be hard to find anything to complain about here. Shelter Island makes you feel like you’re vacationing in a quaint little coastal town rather than in a big city. It’s a great place for walks, sunsets, people-watching, and enjoyment. The Bay Club is one of a few hotels on the island and I don’t what the experience would be like at any of the others but I’d be afraid I’d be disappointed if I tried somewhere else.

This place is one of my favorite spots to stay at when I am in town. It is centrally located, right on shelter Island 10 minutes away from downtown five minutes away from Ocean Beach and 10 to 15 minutes away from Mission Beach in Pacific Beach. You have it all right here with amazing views of the harbor and the marinas and so many good food spots nearby. This hotel is definitely the most bang for your buck when you’re staying on shelter Island! Rooms are comfortable with a small balcony to soak in the San Diego vibes!!

I stayed here last winter but I was thinking about this place and decided I needed tp review. Honestly, save your money. The price we paid was way too much. Restaurant was closed for construction and last few days we couldn't even use the main entrance for construction. You'd think they'd reduce the price during this but no. Service was not particularly friendly, and hotel is dated. Our room wasn't bad (got a suite with harbor view balcony). I think the location was nice as it was pretty close to airport and easy to get around the area. However, we would not stay here again.

The building is older but the room is comfortable and spacious. Every member of the staff we've encountered has gone out of their way to make us feel welcome. We arrived early and asked if they could store our bags, but the room was ready so they checked us in almost six hours before the standard check in time. We had a decent breakfast at the hotel restaurant, which has a great view of the marina, and the spicy bloody Mary's were strong and tasty.

There's a convenient little store in the lobby for necessities, a tiny business area that we used to print a few documents, a small but nice pool and hot tub overlooking the marina, and a really well-appointed fitness room.

As we were standing by the front entrance about to call for a car to take us to lunch in town an extremely pleasant gentleman named Christopher offered to drive us to a nearby restaurant in the hotel shuttle. The Bay Club has a clean, new-ish minivan shuttle that runs from 5 AM until 10 or 11 at night, and they'll take or pick up guests as needed anywhere within about a two mile radius of Shelter Island. On the way to the restaurant Christopher was an excellent guide and gave us the lowdown on good local bars, restaurants and shops.

We stayed at the Bay Club for four nights and we couldn't be more pleased by their hospitality. I would absolutely book with them again!

Great location on the bay across the street from beach and marina in back. Standard hotel restaurant menu but food is excellent. Room was large (king size bed) with desk and chair and arm-chair. Small balcony for our corner room but others had bigger balconies. Very clean.Ample parking. Great views of downtown across the bay.
