The Horton Grand, Downtown/Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego

Overall, the hotel is nice and I don’t have any complaints about the cleanliness or upkeep. However, there are some things I think all people considering staying here should be aware of before making their final decision. First, the rooms are obviously antique/vintage so that comes with its own limitations. For example, the shower and sink are super low so if you’re over 5 feet tall you’re going to be doing a lot of leaning over or ducking when when washing your hands or trying to shower. But, if you can manage to deal with that there’s only one other thing that may change your mind about this spot. Between the approx. hours of 10pm to 3am, the noise from the nearby bar/club is so overwhelming that you can hear everything from the people’s conversations to the opening and closing of the door. If you are a light sleeper, you will probably not enjoy the night very much. If you’re a deep sleeper, it may take you a little longer to get there with the blaring music and loud crowd.

When we first looked at this venue for our event we were WOWED! The courtyard is absolutely beautiful and our first meeting with Jennifer went perfect. Off to a great start - we gave precise details of what we wanted from the event and our expectations were so far from what we wanted or expected from this facility. A very simple event that involved an open Beer and Wine bar with a cocktail hour then a nice station dinner. We asked for music and a projector. I have been in the entertainment business for over 20 years and this was the most horrific event I have ever been to. To start off, cocktail hour with appetizers was a tray of cheese and crackers on a table that was not even where cocktail hour was held. There was NO BAR!! I am not kidding - they just did not have a bar. They put beer in buckets on the tables in where dinner was being served. Oh it gets even better - - - to shorten this review. They ran out of food!! The displays were AWFUL! Tables were covered in leaves from the trees (which they did not tell me shed) The music system was crackling and they could not change the music off of some Spanish station and they had almost no control of the volume! The Screen was a pop up with cables running across the floor with a projector that wasn't even set-up. They didn’t butler the tables. SO much went wrong and they did absolutely NOTHING to help! Jennifer was not even there until 45 minutes into the event - There was no captain or anyone in charge! I had to go into the kitchen to find people to help! Food was AWFUL!!! SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE! All I got was $500 back from the over $5,000 I spent for NOTHING! AVOID THIS PLACE!! DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING HERE - PS - We tried several times after to resolve the situation and received very little support! Thank you Horton for ruining my event!
