Reviews
We had a small but tastefully decorated room with a small balcony towards west with beautiful evening sun. The only thing we were missing was air-condition. The air in the room stod absolutely still. Even with the balcony door wide open we didn't manage to get some air circulation. A big plus for the breakfast and the spa with the infinity pool.
The reception at the reception desk was very warm and despite our spontaneity we were unexpectedly offered special conditions. Furthermore, the receptionist took care of the parking - in all three imperial baths the parking situation could be described as "exhausted" - so we were glad not to have to think about this any further, just coming from Berlin.
Due to our late arrival we also got the option of a Complementary Late CheckOut for the following day, again a great gesture. All in all, a very pleasant CheckIn process. Das Ahlbeck "operates" as a 4-star wellness hotel with a sea view - located in the first row towards the beach, this hotel is clearly more modern than the "venerable houses" otherwise located here.
Architecturally, some "borrowings" have been made from the rest of the “Imperial Bath”, but the round parts of the building reveal that Das Ahlbeck is considerably younger. The staircase reminded us a little bit of M.C. Escher's. The sand-coloured building has a slightly Mediterranean feel to it - especially with the evening lighting of the house. Directly facing the sea, the architects have established a chilly forecourt with beach chairs - ideal for breakfast in the sun and yet sheltered from the wind.
We took a remarkably fast elevator from the reception to the second floor - this is where our room faced the “Ostsee”. The room made a very neat and clean impression and it scented very pleasant. The floor was wooden parquet - in boat plank style, with a slightly nautical touch. The bed - or better the beds - were top, we slept very well in it, but we would have preferred a king-size bed...that can't "slip apart".
There was a minibar - the first filling was on the house - a fine gesture. Moreover, they were so attentive to bring us another bathrobe of sufficient size to the room without any request. Here, the bathrobes are especially for the use in the wellness area and were therefore of a very good quality.
In the room there was a small electronic safe - unfortunately not big enough for camera and notebook. In Addition, there was a "fireplace", but it could be used only in winter. The view to the sea was OK, as the room was a little bit shifted to the back and had no balcony of its own, the balconies / windows of the adjacent rooms were on the right and left side to the view. On the rooms and in the whole building complex there was a quite performant Wi-Fi. In our case, the bathroom was a little angled due to its position, but it had everything it needed - but no window.
Das Ahlbeck has a very attractive pool and wellness area, whereby the connected compact sauna area is also worth mentioning. There is a good choice of showers, a large "ice dispenser" and an ice fog shower - everything very refreshing and very clean & well maintained.
What was very pleasant here, especially for guests with high blood pressure, is the 65°C sauna - a great unique selling point across all three imperial baths! In front of the pool area there is a rest area - here you can choose from a handful of delicious teas in addition to mineral water and thus replenish the body's water balance after the sauna.
The breakfast was worth mentioning - the cappuccino alone was already a great pleasure. Eggs - in whatever form they were prepared - could be ordered directly from the service. The buffet area had everything necessary. There were fresh baked goods, various yoghurts, muesli, jams, honey, cold cuts and fish, as well as small glasses of various prepared salads. There was also a lot of cheese and - we were amazed - all kinds of lactose-free milk products (milk, yogurt, butter) as also fresh soy milk.
All the staff, from the reception to the chambermaid up to the service at the breakfast - were remarkably friendly and obliging. We felt very comfortable at Das Ahlbeck at all times and recommend this 4-star house.
