Motel One Saarbrücken in Saarbrucken

My team and I were regulars at the bar: we came every Monday evening and always ordered generously.

One day, we wanted to pay for three coffees (€10). The Asian waiter (who refused to give me his name) told us he couldn’t take card payments because his terminal wasn’t working. I explained that I could only pay by card (Apple Pay) and that I had no other means of payment with me. Despite this, he insisted, even though the problem clearly came from his equipment. I even offered to make a bank transfer, which he refused.
With no alternative, I told him I would come back in the afternoon to pay the €10.

An unexpected change in my schedule prevented me from returning, but since we were planning to be there the following Monday as usual, I intended to settle it then.

When we arrived the next week, we ordered as usual. A few minutes later, the same (Asian) waiter came over and confronted us because I hadn’t come back to pay that same day. I apologized, explained the unexpected situation, and confirmed that I would pay what was owed immediately, as well as our usual Monday order.

He raised his voice again, repeated that it wasn’t acceptable, and ended up telling me that if I wasn’t happy, I could leave with my team. I asked him to remain polite, but he kept getting worked up and even threatened to call the police, over €10 that I was literally in the process of paying.

That was the last straw. I paid the €10 and we left.

I have rarely encountered such a deplorable and pathetic level of customer service. We had always appreciated the staff at this hotel (and the feeling was mutual) but this waiter’s behavior seriously damages the reputation of the establishment.
I will not return, and I will no longer book this hotel for my team.
