Reviews
First, the service was exemplary. David, a front desk attendant, was super friendly and gave us super helpful recommendations for modes of transportation, restaurants, and other activities. And he was just always warm, kind, and patient with our many requests. Juan, one of the waiters during breakfast time, was always so patient and timely with our requests. We kind of felt we established relationships with the staff at the end.
The hotel is beautiful. You feel like you are in Spain in the hotel. The plaza is so peaceful to have a meal or just to relax. The are several beautiful rooms and the hotel has a interesting history. The rooms are comfortable. I liked the bathroom because it’s spacious and the bed was super comfortable. The only thing to consider is that only one hotel room has an outdoor space.
We had dinner and breakfast. The dinner was good. Food was somewhat flavorful but again, the ambiance is fantastic and relaxing. Service was warm, patient, and timely. This is one of the few breakfast places nearby that provides comprehensive choices and an American style breakfast. The breakfast is tasty. The price includes both a buffet and menu choices. The only slight concern is the breakfast is approximately $30 per person which is very expensive compared to other options in the area and outside the area.
I strongly recommend for any visitor to Granada to consider this hotel.
The decorations, the courtyard, and our room are very beautiful. Only small problems with the awkward bathtub door and squeaky bed.
The staff was very nice to check us in at 11pm. They did hold our luggage after we checked out to explore a bit more, which was very helpful for us.
The hotel was not very close to the train station (uber 12min), and about 20min walking to the Alhambra.
We were encouraged by other reviews so we gave staying here a try.
The manager at check-in was an absolute nightmare - at first, he couldn’t even remember which passports we gave him, and was wildly accusatory (going so far as to say that we were intentionally trying to hide a passport from him). That was our first encounter.
The hotel also wouldn’t honor a discount we had for booking a second room with a child, and when they couldn’t justify the rejection based on the policy rules, they went so far as to say “they make the rules”. This means that everything is at their discretion and people that stay here have no power or expectation to be treated kindly or as five-star Marriott guests.
They yelled at us when Marriott corporate then called them and recommended they honor the booking agreement.
This has been a truly uncomfortable and bizarre experience (we travel regularly and are platinum Marriott members). I’m also fluent in Spanish and travel in Spain regularly, and would feel terrible if this was another couple’s introduction to the city of Granada which is why I’m writing this review.
We felt like there might have been other reasons the managers were being particularly disagreeable with us (read: we’re an Indian family).
