Occidental Jandía Mar Hotel

I recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately had a very negative experience from start to finish. The reception staff were consistently rude not just to me, but to other guests who simply needed assistance. It set a terrible tone for the entire stay.

My room didn’t even have a kettle to make tea, which is something I consider a very basic amenity. Ironically, the only pleasant and helpful people in the entire hotel seemed to be the cleaning staff.

To make things worse, I was bitten by bed bugs throughout my stay — something completely unacceptable for any hotel claiming to offer quality accommodation.

The restaurant situation was chaotic every single day. It was difficult to find decent food, nearly impossible to get a seat, and kids were running around making a mess while parents let them touch food and put it back. It felt unhygienic and poorly managed.

One of the pools was closed, and the other was always full by around 10 AM because people rushed early in the morning to reserve spots. Relaxation was basically out of the question. The drinks offered as part of the hotel’s all-inclusive package tasted like flavored water, so we ended up buying our own alcohol instead.

The hotel offers an “All Inclusive Gold” upgrade that gives access to better restaurants, drinks, and a quieter area away from the chaos — but having to pay extra just to escape the problems in the standard areas felt unfair.

Overall, this hotel was far from what I expected. Between the rude staff, poor hygiene, overcrowded facilities, and general lack of comfort, I simply cannot recommend it. I definitely won’t be returning.

We are currently staying at Occidental Jandía Mar and are extremely disappointed with our experience so far. We booked this hotel expecting a 4-star standard, but it feels closer to 2 or 3 stars.

Pools & Facilities:
On our first day, both pools were closed. On the second day, only one pool reopened. Reception then informed us the other pool would be closed for a full week for maintenance—something that was never communicated beforehand. The layout also has lots of steps and not every block has a lift, which is a big problem for accessibility and for elderly guests.

Safety Concerns:
The floors become dangerously slippery when wet. I actually slipped and fell while holding my toddler. We also have an elderly family member with us who walks with a stick, and this is a very real safety risk.

Room Condition:
Our room is far from 4-star quality. The bathroom sink is blocked, and the overall room condition feels run-down and poorly maintained.

Cleaning Service:
The cleaners do not speak English, making communication extremely difficult. When they came to clean the children’s room, we asked for five minutes as we were getting our toddler ready, but they didn’t understand and didn’t seem bothered to help.

Food & Drinks:
Food choices are limited and drinks are not consistently replenished. The snack bar was closed on our first day, then opened on the second—but nothing was being topped up. My husband waited 10 minutes around 2pm for pizza to be refilled, but nothing appeared. There were no staff around either. Overall the food and drink service is very poor.

Staff Attitude:
We’ve also found several staff members quite rude or uninterested, which further adds to the disappointment.

Other Issues:
• Wi-Fi is extremely slow and basically unusable.
• You have to pay €3.50 to use the safe—unexpected for a hotel claiming to be 4 stars.

Overall, we are extremely disappointed with our stay and feel the hotel does not match the standards it advertises. We hope management takes these issues seriously, but based on our experience so far, we would not return. We have emailed stating the above, still waiting to hear back.

An absolutely shocking experience, we knew the hotel change was owned and operated by a Spanish company by the service was /is disgusting , no English channels, however Dutch French Italian and German are all adequately catered for. Room is from the 60s and miles away from the complex, staff are rude and cannot get a response and it's more like 2.5 hours away from the airport . Do not use the bus shuttle stops everywhere and we nearly died. Very poor and no where near value for money.
