Reviews
The hotel itself is stunning from top to bottom. Every detail, from the elegant decor to the immaculate cleanliness, reflects a commitment to excellence. The amenities are top-notch, offering both luxury and comfort. The location couldn't be more ideal, providing easy access to beautiful beaches, bars and restaurants.
Special thanks to the incredible staff who made our stay unforgettable. Your kindness and efficiency turned a challenging situation into a delightful experience. We can't wait to return and highly recommend Zafiro Palace Palmanova to anyone looking for an exceptional stay.
The food for the week was amazing, we only dined in the buffet restaurant, but there was a number of alcart options. Every day provided a different theme, from seafood, inc lobster, local cuisine to count a few. I must say the range of options was vast, and of really high quality, certainly not what I have been used to on previous holidays. The staff were always attentive and friendly.
Our room was on the second floor of block 2, so very close to the children's area which was useful. We wish we booked a swim up room, these looked amazing with the benefit of a small pool outside your door. We were impressed with the accommodation, the room was clean, modern and a really good use of space. There was a separate, shower/toilet and even a bath along with two sinks. The room also had a microwave, kettle and a fridge with drinks that were refreshed daily. The very large bed was super comfortable, there was also a pull out sofa, this was easily a king size, this was fine for our 2 and 7 year olds.
The pools were plenty, a couple of play ones for the kids and two main ones, one with a swim up bar. There was also a couple of other bars close to the main pools, along with a snack bar.
Overall we loved our visit and will certainly be booking again for next year.
Basically I cannot fault the Zafiro palace hotel.
From the moment we arrived to leaving, the staff were amazing and they could not help us enough.
We had a junior suite which was perfect for myself my wife and our teenage daughter. Spacious and the main bed was enormous ( managed my 10,000 steps every day just making up the bed)! Third bed could be easily pulled out/ in from beneath the sofa so as not to get in the way. Only (minor) negative in the room for us was the opaque doors for the shower/ bathroom.
We mainly used the Market restaurant which was the main buffet but I would highly recommend as the food was fantastic.
Pool area’s were great and a plenty full amount of beds to go around. ( you cannot reserve beds but we did not need too as there were so many anyway). 2 main pool areas with additional pools by each accomodation block. ( again only a minor negative, the parasols are fixed so you cannot move them to suit through the day).
Check in/ check out was a breeze. We were an early flight home but we were able to get a continental breakfast before breakfast proper was open, which was a bonus.
Literally minutes from the beach as there is a gate to the rear of the property for access to the main areas.
I will however say that it is in the expensive side. Drinks etc were comparable to the UK and we all expect them to be a little bit cheaper on holiday.
On the whole we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Zafiro palace and would definitely return again.
Buffet restaurant food selection was quite good but food quality was average. A la carte restaurants were good but very limited availability even though there were only us and 2-3 others tables…?
Paid for a pent house suite but room was underwhelming and absolutely not toddler friendly. No door on bathroom meant toddler was in toilet & shower constantly. Plus split level balcony was dangerous as no stair gate or hand rails provided. Had to request a stair gate twice before one was provided. So for the first few days we felt like we couldn’t use the balcony/hot tub we had paid extra for.
Bins in the room were not emptied regularly so obviously with having a toddler nappies were building up. Plus floor wasn’t being mopped everyday so seemed to be constantly dusty/gritty with sand etc.
Probably wouldn’t stay again due to room layout and limited availability in a la carte restaurants.
The kids loved the entertainment team. A special thanks to Jhoangel and Andrea for their dedication!
We visited in April and enjoyed the hot water in the kids area and hot tub as well as other activities.
The Food from Restaurants and Buffet Restaurant are delicious.
On the positive side, a lot of the rooms have large terraces and hot tubs - it's a nice and unique aspect. The 'mid level' staff was very nice and spoke great english (junior not so much), we especially like the PR head who also helped with our Wifi broke. It's an easy 5min walk to the beach, and the surrounding area has a ton of bars/restaurants.
Here are a few things to consider if you're looking to stay here, some could easily be fixed by management or not applicable in high season, but others are just a part of the design decisions:
Design
- Many reviews highlight design 'flaws' like the open bathrooms. Not having a bathroom door really is an issue for families with kids sleeping in the common area. Not only is there no door, but there's a glass wall to the bedroom - so watching TV at night shows right through to where the kids are sleeping. And what if a babysitter arrives when one parent is getting ready, or trying to brush your teeth after a night out. It's simply bad design, likely done by someone without kids. Maybe they could at least provide a curtain and some hooks for families who could 'really use' some kind of separation to the bathroom?
A few other odd design choices that someone really should have thought through more when making the hotel:
- There are 3 huge shelves where 6 typical ones would be, so you'll have to stack your clothes
- The toilet room has a step up, which I stubbed my toes on every night (since it has to be dark in the bathroom with kids sleeping...)
- The kids pool area has no bathroom, you'll have to run to the pool restaurant if kids are going to make it, and that doesn't even have a changing room
- There's no hotel shop for things you forgot, you'll have to go to the local grocery store.
- The main bar is right next door to an open kids entertainment area, so if adults want to get away for a quite drink there's nowhere to go on the property.
Management Decisions
In addition to the odd design choices, it seems the executive management made a lot of decisions that simply aren't fitting with a typical 5 star hotel experience. Most are likely cost saving measures during 'low season' (which was still busy during spring break). If they were all 'fixed' to me it would be much closer to a 5 star:
- Our package included 4 dinners at the a la carte restaurants during our stay, the issue is they were closed 2 night of the week and the remaining nights the 1 open restaurant was limited to 15-20 bookings total. We snuck in twice after management took pity on us, but to upsell a package that isn't available seems wrong. (*would be nice to know this before booking...)
- The poolside lunch area was closed until the 'season' started on the last day of our stay, leaving only the main buffet - so we had to walk outside the hotel every day for lunch. (*would be nice to know this before booking...)
- There are no towels at the pools, bring your own - and if you had a dip in your hot tub the night before and they're wet, then you'll need to stop by reception and get some more (if they have some)
- The large shower bottles were easy to unscrew open. I don't mind saving the plastic of mini bottles, but it's gross to think about how unsanitary easily opened shampoo bottles are
- Some genius thought it was a good idea to park an industrial list right next to the kids pool (1m from the slipper slide). 2 kids hit their heads within 1h of me being there. It was moved after I told the front desk the next day, but does the GM not walk the property daily and maybe think that's dangerous?
Service - special shout out to Angel and Gregory but all the staff that we came across were extremely helpful, kind and pleasant.
Room- we booked a room with a hot tub which was modern, had plenty of space, and was cleaned every day to a high standard. The air con was excellent and having a shower and bath was really useful for us and the baby.
Restaurants - there was a huge variety at the buffet breakfast and dinner, Lunch at La Verenda had plenty to choose from on the menu, and the A La Carte restaurants were outstanding. We particularly liked the Mediterranean restaurant. Very fast service in all.
Entertainment- we didn't experience much of the evening entertainment as we had a young baby with us however we enjoyed the activities round the pool, such as the aqua gym and water mat.
Pools- lots of options for babies, toddlers, kids and adults and lots of sunbeds to choose from and it didn't feel cramped at all. The outdoor pools were cold but we didn't mind as it was nice to cool down and we brought a wet suit for our baby.
We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others, particularly for families.
- They advertise baby sitting services on their website but this is not an in-house service. Instead, they have an external agency that guests can hire the baby sitting services from. This is very misleading and I didn't bother with the service even though it was one of the reasons I opted to stay here.
- The jacuzzi in our terrace was always cold. We had someone come and service them every day and still we were unable to enjoy it. First, the controls didn't work, and then the temperature wouldn't go hire than 30. Not worth the upgrade
- You only find out about activities if you download the app
- This all inclusive doesn't offer food 24/7. There is room service but there is an extra charge for it
- The food was good though and the staff were very friendly
Overall, I don't think I'd stay here again.
