Sunway Playa Golf & Spa Hotel

Difficult review to leave because we had a great holiday but the hotel leaves a lot to be desired.

Good:

Peaceful
Hardly anybody on the beaches nearby
Clean
Nice pool not too crowded
Terrace by beach is great
Renovated restaurant
Big balcony

Not so good:

Minimarket doesnt sell any fresh meat or fish, other supermarkets are 20mins walking
Old furniture, kitchens and beds (although some rooms have been renovated)
Great that there are bikes but need renewing
Key cards stopped working all the time
Couldn’t regulate aircon

We were woken up 2 out of our 3 mornings there by workmen. We had late nights and intended to have a lie in, but it was impossible each day. This was a Friday and Saturday. Not at all what we expected.

We were put in a disabled room, which we did not book, where the seat did not stay up so had an awkward half shower space.

The room came with a couple of tea and coffee to go with the coffee machine etc, but when we asked if they had more after our first morning we were told they did not supply these to the rooms.

Check in and out was well managed, we did need to get our room cards redone as they were not done properly first time round but the staff helped immediately and seemed like it was a known issue. (They had not been put near phones etc they just hadn't been done)

The rooms are not well sound proofed, and there is no chance of getting ready in the bedroom as there was no light at all in our particular room.

However the blackout curtains work really well, the living space was nice and very roomy. The balcony was a good size. The kitchenette was great with a fridge, coffee machine, kettle and all pots pans cutlery and cups etc you would need.
It was clean on arrival and staff respect the do not disturb signs on doors.

The hotel itself and amenities are nice enough with decent restaurants, gym, pool and mini-market Staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are tired and in need of modernization however. The beds are rather hard, definitely not what you'd expect when you pay in the region of EUR 250 per night excl. breakfast. Appliances are dated. If you pay for an ocean view apt make sure to request a front view and not a side view. It's the same price and class so only chance will determine what you get otherwise. The hotel is literally on the beach and there's a beach club with free sunbeds, so that's all good. Be aware that it takes about 30 mins to stroll into town. There are free bikes for hire though, which will get you there in 10 mins, and you can hold on to them for the duration of your stay. This is both good and bad as there's a limited number of them and many remain parked for days, so don't leave it until the last minute or you may not get any. Taxis are not always easy to get at a whim. All in all pretty nice but a bit pricey for what you get, in my view, but it's Sitges and peak season so...
