Location is great if you want to experience the “raw” side of Marseille. Very well located around great restaurants , bakeries and public transport. Direct bus to Calanques natura park ( Cassis ) and other places in the city.
Rooms and very basic. Not super clean , but great bed and good bedsheets, airconditioned room with fridge. The food in the hotel is overpriced and not worth it. Eat outside and stay just for the night! Perfect.

It was our first time Marseille and first time Mama Shelter and neither disappointed! The people working at reception are welcoming, the mixologist at the bar makes great cocktails, there are underground parking options, and the rooms are clean. Unlike some other reviewers, I thought the area is great: you have a lot of nice bars in the area, you can have a nice local breakfast at cafe La Muse or enjoy natural wines and veggie food in Winesucker x Mercato. No 5 stars for Mama Shelter, because bathroom products were too limited (had to buy our own liquid soap, but since we’re in Marseille this wasn’t difficult), and our room could’ve used a sitting area or couch to fill the empty space and make it more cosy. Overall the rooms could benefit from a TLC makeover, but the cleaning staff did what they could to at least make it feel fresh. This Mama is welcoming, and although she aged a bit by now, she still takes good care of her guests.

We were put in two different rooms because of issues, and both were filthy and faulty. Bless the team for moving us when we raised concerns that neither our tv nor safe worked in our first room and that our shower was leaking through the floor, but the next room was just as dirty. We had a blocked bathroom sink the whole stay that stank, and the room often additionally smelt like smoke due to people standing at the hotel bar smoking right outside our window. It's also very noisy in the evenings. Definitely wouldn't recommend if you have a young kid or just want to sleep at some point before 1am...disappointed, especially for the cost.

I actually love the chain but have been in better ones this one was a bit of a bummer the first room we had had problems with the toilet 🚽 but it was quickly changed the second room had the shower broken only the handheld shower worked. Everything was a bit out of maintenance the staff was friendly and breakfast was amazing the location could be better as well

Not my first stay at the mama Shelter, tbh, I live near marseille and I occasionally book a room (last minute) to avoid driving back home. When I decide to stay in Marseille, I always book here at the mama.
I must say I never had anything to say because it was always easy, available and welcoming (even though I sometimes showed up at 5 am 😂, front desk opened all night long) but tonight, my room was on the 6th floor and I was bothered by a noise all night long. So I just recommend not to stay on the last floor, otherwise it’s comfortable, safe and clean!

Enjoyed calling Mama Shelter Marseille home for a few days. Very friendly and helpful team. Room overlooked a lovely courtyard and enjoyed the sun every morning. Great breakfast buffet every morning and fun drinks and entertainment in the evening.

I met up with some friends who were staying at the Mama Shelter, and ended up having a fantastic evening in the bar. The space is really comfortable and filled with a great ambience. Extra special thanks to Alexis, Arthur and Adèle who made us feel welcome and proposed us some tasty cocktails. Will be sure to come back!

Welcoming staff at reception and very attentive staff serving us at dinner. A great atmosphere in the bar dining area during the rugby matches. Plenty to eat at breakfast only complaint was it was sometimes hard to locate mugs for the coffee

Front office - some staff are really helpful and knowledgable - some staff the opposite. if you make a mistake in the final bill and you initially charge 120 euro too much. and the guest identifies the mistake.. . Correct AND apologise !!
Reservation: if you make a mistake in making a reservation (wrong date), and the guest detects is ... correct AND apologise. !!
