Reviews
My initial impression was that it was nice/average but after staying at 3 other hotels in Genoa/Genova (including 1 Marriott and two other Best Westerns), I revised my opinion. The Moderno Verdi was my favorite of the four hotels and the one that I would stay at again.
Overall, the Moderno Verdi was balanced and provides the best value. The biggest drawbacks to the rooms is that they are small, which can make them feel rather cramped if multiple people are staying. The room furnishings are modern. There was enough storage space but I wished I had more table space. The internet was fine. The bathroom was modern. The shower was great - though it might initially seem small, the overhead shower was perfect for the size. It did seem like the bottom of the lampshade had some frizziness. And the master control switch was a little confusing - I was never able to figure out how to turn off the bathroom mirror light. I thought my room was quiet, comfortable, and clean, even though it was small.
I did feel that the hallway carpets were a little outdated and the hallway mirrors were grimy. There is one easily accessible elevator that is very small with limited space (but the small elevators was a common theme I saw in the two other Best Westerns as well). There is a larger elevator that is in the central stairway, but you need to go up 6 steps to get to it.
While you had to pay extra for breakfast (which I did not opt for, given some of the bad reviews), it is notable that the food and drinks in the mini-bar were FREE. I had to ask a second time to make sure I heard that right since most hotels charge exorbitant prices for mini-bar food. There were two bottles of still water, two bottles of sparking/fizzy water, two bottles of a delicious orange soda, and an assortment of small snacks. Altogether it was probably 10-15 euros in value that was free.
The staff was friendly and helpful. Also, the day after I checked out, they were willing to let me store my luggage for the afternoon. It is a small locked area, however they did not use any sort of ticketing system to keep track of whose luggage it is.
This was my first Genoa hotel and initially I thought the location was 3 stars but after staying at 3 other hotels, I updated my rating to 4 stars. While it might seem like the Moderno Verdi is far from most tourist attractions, it is actually in a great location right next to the Brignole station. That gives you a lot of options in terms of the metro or bus lines. Also, Genoa is a relatively small city so a lot of it is walkable. If you plan to visit multiple tourist locations, you might find that each is a 10-15 minute walk to the next and taking a bus is going to take as long as it takes to walk. While the Best Westerns Porto Antico and Metropoli might seem like they are closer to other things in the city, you do need to take some side streets, many of which have rough pavement which can make it hard for some wheeled suitcases. The other Best Westerns are also a bit farther from bus/metro lines, which is why ultimately I think Moderno Verdi has the better location even if it might not look like it on the map.
The Moderno Verdi is located near shopping areas including restaurants (local Italian restaurants as well as chains like McDonald's and KFC), some electronic stores (Vodafone and Unieuro for Iliad), and a few museums (Natural History, Cappachino, and Oriental Art) are all within 10-15 minutes walking distance.
The AC Hotel Genova (Marriott) has nicer rooms and may be better if you plan to spend most of your time working in your room, but the service and location are terrible. The Best Western Porto Antico has bigger rooms but slightly worse in quality. It may be better if you want to easily walk to the aquarium or other museums. The quality of the Best Western Metropoli is much lower than the others but it could be the best value if you are on a tight budget. But overall, I preferred the Best Western Moderno Verdi to these other hotels.
Personal are nice and friendly 👍
But room have a lot broken things.... Bad have brocken staff....
Not gut manted...
