Ravello Art Hotel Marmorata

To end my family 18 day vacation in Italy at the Ravello Art Apartment (Charming Apartment to be exact) was a disaster. This is part of the Hotel Mamorata. Please make sure you understand a few extremely important things, the Charming Apartment is 500 meters down the winding road that is filled with traffic and beeping all night long. If you have little children or don't particularly like walking on the highway this isn't the place for you. They, of course, provide a shuttle from the main hotel but it's on a schedule 4-5 times a day. Don't be fooled by the label "seaview" in the Charming Apartment. You are staying in a converted attic with very few windows and light. If you stand while going to the bathroom in the main bathroom (and are taller than 6' ) then you can kind of see the water. One of the bedrooms has a side window porthole that you can look out. The best feature is the roof top with a little sitting area to view the sea. Maybe a peek of the sea inside a window challenged attic apartment may be a better description. Don't get me wrong, the area of Ravello and the hotel are beautiful on the outside and the two other apartments are probably nice, open, and truly a sea view but not ours. If you love to hear traffic all night long beeping like you are in the middle of Times Square and your windows are open then you'll love this place. If you are considering the Charming Apartment keep in mind that it is more like renting an AirBnB with a slightly irritated owner who believes it is your privilege to shell out your hard-earned money and stay there. Just google some of the reviews for Hotel Marmorata and Ravello Art Apartments and you'll be able to read how they respond to bad reviews. In person, they are even worse. Now, we did book through a reputable US-based travel agency - Classic Vacations who never disclosed the actual apartment we are getting so we couldn't properly look up the detail or warn us of some of the challenges we may face. Lesson learned but I wouldn't use Classic Vacations again either. We arrived late the first night and were forced to stay there but were able to book a different hotel in a different area. The hotel was sold out and they couldn't accommodate my family in the main hotel. We left and were told we would not be refunded so we incurred double hotel charges. Thankfully our next hotel was luxurious, accommodating, and professional. Classic Vacations earned our money on that booking because we were stuck. In the end, the Hotel Marmorata, Classic Vacations, and AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite Mastercard didn't provide an adequate resolution. Check out the video of the Ravello Charming Apartment before you book it and make an informed decision. Don't rely on the hotel, your travel company, or your credit card to make it right because they won't. I'm sure this review will elicit and angry response from the owner just like in other instances. For the record, the rest of my family trip throughout Italy was fantastic - Venice, Santa Margherita Ligure, Rome, Sorrento, etc.
