Palazzo Avino

The beach club and location are beautiful and very convenient. However, the room was extremely small and poorly decorated. I understand that the Amalfi area is generally expensive, but for over 1000 EUR per night, we couldn't even walk around with our luggage open. Additionally, while the hotel has several rules regarding pets, there was a small dog behind the front desk that barked constantly whenever it saw other dogs. This made it seem like the pet rules didn’t apply consistently.

Palazzo Avino is a gorgeous hotel located in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast. We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a high end hiking trip.

On the positive side, the hotel is in top notch condition and the pink themed umbrellas and décor works well. The view from the terrace is stunning and we all took pictures at sunset that we will cherish. The bar has an innovative martini and drink menu and I highly recommend coming to this hotel for a drink before dinner if you are not staying here. We spent a few hours at the hotel's beach club (located on the water, about 15 minutes away by shuttle) and had terrific service and a nice experience.

On the needs improvement side, the rooms at this hotel are simply too small. You have to turn sideways to pass one another and only 1 person could ever be in the bathroom at a time. There was no place for luggage and it was frustrating to try and be in the room. The shower door almost could not open without hitting the toilet. The AC in the room worked well the first night, but the power went out the second night and then the AC never turned back on. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, and quite short (we are tall), likely as that is the only size that would fit in the room. Breakfast was sub-par a 5 Star hotel, and the final dinner that we had at their main restaurant (supposedly a Michelin 1 Star) was not edible and the service was terrible. We all went to bed hungry. The group joked about ordering a pizza after dinner. Normally, at a Michelin rated dinner, I am full by the second course and don't want to eat for days.

Finally, we had a terrible service experience at the bar. We went to order drinks and told the waiter that we only had about 20 mins. He said it would be no problem and we ordered quickly. 20 mins later, after the bartender took a phone call for over 10 minutes, the drinks had not arrived, and our group had to leave for our cooking class. When we returned and tried to have a drink, the bartender gave us some obnoxious comments and almost did not serve us.

Overall, I would recommend giving this hotel a try for a drink before dinner, but I would stay somewhere else, and skip the restaurant for sure.
