Hotel "La Pensione Svizzera" in Taormina

My girlfriend and I chose this hotel in Taormina because of its high ratings but were overall disappointed and would definitely stay elsewhere if we visit Taormina again.

I’ll start with the pros. Pros: great location close to the main center with all the shops/restaurants. Also only a 5 min walk to the cable cars giving you direct access to the beach. Breakfast in the AM was very good and the staff was very kind.

Cons: poor quality rooms with very uncomfortable bedding. Our bed was listed as a Queen mattress and it was, quite literally, two twin beds pushed together. There was a huge space between the two beds so the entire time my partner and I kept drifting towards the middle of the bed and it was so uncomfortable. Also, both of our feet were dangling off the end of the bed because the mattresses were so short and we are both only 5’3. Pillows and bedding were uncomfortable and low quality. They listed the room with blackout curtains and soundproof walls which they were not. Light shined in through the curtains every morning and you could hear outside chatter through the main doorway. We barely got any sleep while staying in Taormina.

The bathroom is very very small. Shower is also extremely small and can barely fit one person. Water did not drain and it became a standing swimming pool the minute you put the water on.

Hotel key you have to carry around with you is ginormous in size, so if you only have a small purse with you it’s a major inconvenience.

Overall, we would definitely not stay here again. It was very misleading for the hotel to list a room with all of these amenities and to just push to twin mattresses together and call it a queen is not true or fair to paying customers who choose these rooms based off listed accommodations.
