Corinthia Palace Malta Mini-hotel

We stayed at Corinthia Palace Malta from 31 May to 8 June, having booked the trip to celebrate my birthday. After excellent experiences at Corinthia London and Lisbon, we were truly looking forward to this stay, but unfortunately it fell far short of five-star standards.
At check-in, I was mistakenly handed a form with another guest’s full personal details, including email, phone number and address; someone who shared my name. When I flagged this clear data breach, staff casually told me “it’s fine, just sign it,” which was both shocking and careless.
Our room felt outdated and in serious need of refurbishment. Housekeeping was poor: used mugs were left dirty for days despite repeated hints and calls, and basic cleaning like vacuuming simply wasn’t done.
Midway through our stay, we were stopped in the lobby by a staff member who questioned why we were there, only backing off once we explained we were guests. It was awkward, inappropriate and left a poor impression.
The spa was no better. Staff were unhelpful and dismissive when we tried to book the Vitality Suite. After finally being given a short time slot, I was told I needed to return to my room to get a bathrobe, leaving us with barely any time to use the space. Follow-up calls to rebook were ignored.
At check-out, no one asked how our stay was. No goodbye, no warmth, no interest, just a card charge and silence.
This was not a five-star experience. It lacked attention to detail, service consistency and hospitality. Sadly, it did not reflect the Corinthia brand we had come to trust.

I don't know how it got a five-star rating and so many good reviews. The hotel's mattress moves when you sleep on it, and you may fall down accidentally. The exhaust fan in the bathroom is not open all day, and it is said to be timed. It is hard to imagine that the exhaust fan can be turned on and off on a regular basis. Is this to meet user needs?
The hotel's facilities are very old, and have not been replaced for at least 10 years. Looking up at the top of the bed, there are cracks. I am very worried that the cracked wall will fall down halfway through my sleep.
There are no commercial supermarkets around the hotel, which is very inconvenient.
Real experience, please consider carefully.

This place seems like it’s out of the Princess Diaries movie with a beautiful spa and garden but I’m unsure of the hype?!
I will say the staff had set up a cot for our baby which was really kind of them.
The rooms are extremely dated and in need of a refresh!
The fact the pool is only open for kids from 9am-12pm was so disappointing however. They do not reopen the pool after the spa is closed at 7 pm either though they claim “have anything against kids.”
The breakfast was not worth the €25 price tag. I’ve never had pancakes so hard (why?) We came back and tried them again…still hard. The buffet was underwhelming and I had to ask for butter. The eating location is beautiful though.
The hotel isn’t in a central location to anything either. You have to get an Uber to get anywhere which wasn’t an issue for us but buyer beware.
