Resolution Resort in Chang Island

RESOLUTION RESORT June 2025
We booked online for a one week stay. We had previously driven down this remote road ten years ago. The road had many luxurious resorts all along it. There had been a beautiful wooden board walk around the peninsula. All of this has fallen into disrepair. Broken, dilapidated resorts now line the road. The board walk has collapsed.
Resolution Resort is still operating, but if they don't significantly improve their services, they too will succumb to the downturn in the economy.

Once you arrive, you will find that the 'hideaway retreat' is actually very restrictive. The free boat shuttle service was not operating due to the low tides. Instead of offering a free songtaow service to the pier instead, they say that the fare is 300 baht each way. That's for a 3 km journey. To get back to a nice beach for a swim or to enjoy a massage or eat out, you must pay 400 baht each way to get to Kai Bae. We ended up spending 800 baht every day just on transport.

We would have liked a room with a view straight out to the sea. The best room right at the front is full of old junk and furniture, spilling out onto the verandah.

One night, we ate at the restaurant provided at the resort. I chose Vegetable Spring Rolls with Cashew Nut dipping sauce. They were dried up miserable tasting spring rolls with no vegetables in them, only glass noodles flavoured with soy sauce. There was no cashew nut dipping sauce at all, just a sweet chilli sauce. After that food, I was up and down all night to the toilet, and still felt ill the next day. We didn't eat there again for the duration of our one week stay.

The staff cleaned the rooms every day and provided 2x bottles of water, which was definitely not enough in such a hot climate.

There was nowhere to store clothing, so I left my clothes on the bench seat. During the heavy rain, water came through the windows frame, and all my clothes got soaking wet. The window was not open. The frame was not fitting correctly. Silicon has previously been used to try to patch the gap. Fortunately, most of my books were in a plastic bag. Only one got wet. There was absolutely nowhere to hang all my wet clothes. We bought some rope and strung up a line.

The pool was nice, which was good as the beach was littered with rubbish. I made use of the pool cleaning net to scoop up all the leaves floating on the surface before my swim. I guess the staff were too busy, sitting around checking their cellphones. Once they saw me cleaning the pool, they came to assist.

There were numerous maintenance issues at this resort. An example of this was that the fridge door would not remain shut. It kept swinging open. We found a brick to put under the fridge to tilt it back.

Overall, a very disappointing place to stay. The price they charge definitely is not reflected in what is provided. We won't be going back, even if it was half the cost.
