This hotel wasn’t quite what I expected for the price point. It’s located in a very quiet area, so you won’t find much to walk to outside the property. The resort itself is quite large - you’re taken to your room on a golf cart when you arrive, which gives you an idea of the layout. But after that initial ride, you’re expected to walk around on your own, and the property includes lots of hills and stairs which can be exhausting to navigate.

The gym is very basic. The restaurant is decent - I’d recommend sticking to Thai dishes, as the western food wasn’t great (my burger, in particular, was disappointing). That said, the Thai food I had was very good, and the restaurant staff were friendly.

The hotel does have some of the elements you’d expect from a four-star property - clean rooms, a large layout, and various amenities. But where it really fell short was the service. At times, it felt like the staff hadn’t been properly trained on how to deliver a genuine four-star hospitality experience.

At checkout, I had someone collect my bags and bring them to reception. My smaller backpack was left on the floor with my jumper touching the dirty ground - not something I’d expect from a hotel that markets itself as premium.

Then there was the issue with the complimentary branded water bottle. As I was preparing to leave, a staff member approached - I assumed to help me load bags into the taxi. Instead, she took the water bottle from my hand and told me I couldn’t take it with me. No real explanation was given - just a firm refusal.

And during breakfast, I asked a staff member if I could have an iced latte. He didn’t seem particularly happy with the request, walked off, and returned some time later to tell me it couldn’t be made because the hotel had run out of ice - and apparently had no way to get more. The way the interaction was handled didn’t reflect the attentiveness or professionalism you’d expect from a property at this level.

I would not return to this hotel. There are definitely better options in Koh Samui at this price point and category.

We arrived in the evening to a boiling hot room with the AC off. Staff barely spoke English, they had me talk to their manager. The toilet was leaking badly and instead of sending maintenance, they sent housekeeping who couldn’t help out. After insisting, we were moved to another room… which was somehow worse with cobwebs on windows, stained bedsheets and poor hygiene overall.

The whole property is neglected, no upkeep. The restaurant looked like a sad cafeteria with plastic tables, harsh lights and ceiling fans.

We had breakfast and checked out right after. Pictures online do not represent its current state. This place is nowhere near the standard it claims. Not worth your money or time.

An unforgettable family holiday in paradise

We spent a wonderful family holiday at the New Star Beach Resort – five of us, including a 15-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy – and everything about this stay was perfect!

The resort is set right on the beach, surrounded by lush tropical greenery, with white sand and crystal-clear water. It’s peaceful, relaxing, and beautifully maintained.

The pool is absolutely stunning, especially with a frangipani tree that leans right over the water. While swimming, you’re surrounded by the gentle scent and beauty of the flowers falling into the pool. It’s not a cleanliness issue at all – in fact, everything is spotless – it just adds a magical and unforgettable atmosphere.

Breakfast is excellent, with a sea view, and the entire service at the resort is outstanding – everyone is warm, welcoming, and always ready to help. But what truly stood out was the extraordinary kindness and care of the staff.

During our stay, our niece injured her foot on some coral while in the sea. The staff was incredible – they personally accompanied us to the hospital, stayed with us, and made sure everything went smoothly. For the following check-ups, they provided a car and support every time. Thanks to them, our niece became “the queen of the resort”! Their care and warmth touched us deeply.

A special thank you to Nun (we hope we’re spelling the name correctly!) and to the kind person who always took us to the hospital – unfortunately we didn’t catch the name, but both were truly special people who stayed in our hearts.

Also, for anyone visiting, we highly recommend bringing water shoes, especially for children and teenagers, as there can be coral in some parts of the sea.

Thai hospitals and healthcare turned out to be excellent, but we strongly recommend having travel insurance, just in case.

Don’t miss the beach massages, in a lovely open-air gazebo with the sound of the waves and a soft ocean breeze – an incredibly relaxing experience, at a very reasonable price.

The New Star Beach Resort is a magical place that we will carry in our hearts. Thank you for making our holiday so special – we will definitely come back!

It so happened that we had to look for a hotel on Samui literally at the last moment. My wife's friend, who lives on Samui, suggested this hotel. For which we are very grateful to her.
The main advantages of the hotel: a beautiful beach and a huge territory, where it is very easy to get lost. And the rooms are simply huge (we especially liked the 2 showers "outdoors").
The pool is clean, there are plenty of sun loungers, a place in the shade can be easily found. Breakfasts are quite varied. Next to the hotel (literally across the road) there is a "7-Eleven". And a number of bars and restaurants for every taste and budget.
I would like to separately emphasize the very friendly staff.
In a word, our family liked everything very much. But I want to warn travelers who find it difficult to walk. There are many descents and ascents on the territory of the hotel.

The hotel territory is large, the villa itself is comfortable, large area, clean. Breakfasts are good. The beach is spacious and has many sun loungers. Overall, the impression is positive. The hotel did not want to return the money for the extra paid breakfast, but as compensation they organized a free transfer to the airport. Of the minuses, there are no normal cafes near the hotel, we had to go by tuk tuk to Chaweng.
07.03.2025
The hotel is located on Chaweng Noi Beach, which is almost empty of strangers, only guests of the resorts located along the beach. You can go to the large Chaweng Beach, which I liked much less. The location is generally convenient. If you want, you can walk from the street with a shopping center in 30-40 minutes. Or 300 baht by taxi.
Nearby on the street at the entrance to the hotel there is a 7/11, an exchange office and a bar.

Overall, I liked the room, no special comments. The only thing that bothered me was the randomly working and then not working lighting in the stones near the summer shower in the yard. I was afraid that I would get an electric shock, something was wrong there.

The beach is in direct view, a dedicated sun lounger. A good pool and a decent cafe at the hotel (prices are above average, but everything is delicious, there are promotions on drinks).
The territory is well-groomed, green, no comments. There were no problems with the staff.

I recommend the hotel.

We had a really lovely stay at this hotel. The staff are lovely and were very friendly and interactive with my children (special mention to Pex who was fantastic ) the hotel was clean and the rooms here nice, it is a little in need of an upgrade but this didn’t affect the quality of our stay.
The resort is on a steep slope, with a fair amount of steps, which is worth knowing if you have mobility issues or a buggy. We had to carry the buggy to the breakfast area and pool as there was no slope and only steps.
Breakfast was fine and the egg station was very quick and efficient. Probably worth noting that it’s better to get there early as the food is put out once, and not replenished . But we were mostly able to get what we wanted.
Beach lovely. Get a massage on the beach and get a corn on the cob from the lady who tools them to the right!
There’s a fantastic bar and restaurant next to the hotel called Bamboo bar.
We enjoyed our stay - thanks! ☺️

Honest Review of the Beachfront Hotel

Our stay at this hotel left us with mixed feelings. While there were some redeeming qualities, several aspects significantly marred our overall experience.

Food & Beverage
• Happy Hour:
The hotel offers a happy hour from 14:00 to 15:00 with a 2-for-1 deal on drinks. This promotion is a great perk and definitely worth taking advantage of.
• Restaurant Experience:
We only dined at the hotel’s restaurant once, and it was disappointing.
• The Thai pizza was burnt, and if you’re craving pizza, there’s a superb Italian restaurant almost directly across the street.
• The Pad Thai was inedible due to raw prawns. Although we complained, the issue was either misunderstood or deliberately ignored.
• The Mango smoothie was, by far, the worst we’ve had in Thailand—with far too much syrup and hardly any real mango flavor.
Overall, we do not recommend dining at the hotel’s restaurant.

Service & Policies
• Beach Towel Policy:
The hotel has a peculiar rule regarding beach towels.
• Guests are required to leave their towels in a basket outside the villa, where an employee exchanges them between 19:00 and 20:00.
• However, if you hand in your towels the day before check-out, don’t expect to receive new ones. I had to borrow towels from reception because of this rule.
• While the rationale is that towels frequently go missing, the policy gives the impression that the hotel distrusts its guests, suspecting them of theft. Additionally, you’re not allowed to leave your towel in the Beach Villa; you must return it to reception.
• Taxi Request Incident:
After a confrontation over the towel policy, I asked the hotel for a taxi to the airport.
• I was promptly told that no taxis were available and that they could only call one from the street.
• I decided to call a taxi on my own, but unbeknownst to me, the receptionist also arranged one. When I discovered this, she became very bossy and unpleasant, which only added to the negative experience.

Breakfast & Amenities
• Breakfast:
Breakfast is served at a high standard, featuring a large selection of food and a beautiful view of the beach. However, there is one major drawback:
• Smoking is allowed outdoors. You must choose between dining in the air-conditioned room or enduring cigarette smoke while enjoying your breakfast.
• Buggy Service:
The hotel offers a flexible buggy service that arrives quickly if you decide to venture off-resort for a meal or excursion—a definite plus.

Accommodation & Facilities
• Beach Villa:
We stayed in a Beach Villa, which was clean and well-equipped with two air conditioning units. The villa’s location right on a wide, sandy beach was a major highlight.
• The sea was moderately rough with waves; I personally enjoyed it, though my wife did not.
• A minor hygiene issue was noted: the trash bins in the villa were missing bags, which is problematic since used toilet paper (which shouldn’t be flushed) ends up there.
• On the terrace, there was a container of water for washing feet after the beach, but no ladle was provided.

Final Thoughts

It is a shame that the overall impression of the hotel is tarnished by issues such as poor food quality, the odd towel policy, and unprofessional behavior from certain staff members (particularly at reception). While the breakfast and buggy service are strong points and most of the employees are friendly, these positives are outweighed by the negatives.

Who should consider this hotel?
• Smokers might enjoy the outdoor breakfast and relaxed vibe.
• Families with children may want to look elsewhere due to the overall atmosphere and policies.

In summary, the hotel has potential but is currently let down by inconsistent service and management practices that leave a sour taste despite some attractive features.
02.02.2025
Overall it was worth the money spent. The hotel is on a good beach, the staff is friendly and helpful, the food is quite decent and not the most expensive, compared to other beach hotels. Convenient parking and even assistance when exiting the ring road)
01.01.2025
It's a good hotel with a nice beach. Breakfast was not really delicious for my taste. All cups and dishes were very dirty inside the room. I also saw two cockroaches. But totally it's a good hotel.
