Göreme Ascension Cave Suites

I stayed at Ascension Cave Suites from April 6th to 9th, 2025, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel due to serious security concerns. During our stay, two separate theft incidents occurred — one involving my own family and the other with our next-door neighbors.

I had booked two suites (one for my mom and oldest daughter and one for rest of my family). While my mother and daughter were away for a hot air balloon ride and part of the afternoon, $200 was stolen from her purse, which had been zipped and left inside her locked room. Important part to note is my mom is extremely OCD about counting her money and she had counted it the night before to be exactly $1000 and then it was only $800 with the purse unzipped. Only she had the key, and the only others with access would be hotel staff with a master key. At first, we didn't want to make a big deal about it, but the invasion of privacy was deeply unsettling.

What confirmed our suspicion was when our neighbors overheard us outside the suite and shared that over $900 had also been stolen from their room during the same timeframe. They reported it to the police, and we returned to find an active investigation took place at the hotel and their room. Police were present for hours, disrupting their plans and peace of mind.

When we reported our incident to hotel staff, Mustafa on night duty assured us that an investigation was underway and that we’d be reimbursed. However, the next day, the day staff acted as if the conversation had never taken place. After hours of back and forth, we were finally handed $200 from under a desk — a gesture that felt more like pressure management than resolution.

There was no functioning in-room safe, CCTV coverage had blind spots, and staff deflected responsibility, even implying we might be trying to exploit theft reviews. That accusation was insulting, especially given how much we spent on our trip.

The entire experience left us feeling violated and distrustful. No matter how charming the location is, safety and trust are non-negotiable. I urge anyone considering this hotel to be extremely cautious. Keep valuables with you at all times or, better yet, stay at a more reputable place.

Response to feedback: completely wrong information in your reply that no police investigation took place. The neighbors we talk about gave us detailed information and he shared his number with us for future updates. If you are implying I took my money or my 5 year old took money then you are delusional. Multiple rooms were part or the theft during the same timeframe and there is no way to fool anyone here. I happily spent more than 20k on Turkey vacation and $200 is not what I am after I want people to know so they make their own decision. Unless you guys own up to the internal problem and fix this the number of reviews about stealing will go so high that you won't be able to cover it up anymore with response like you did. And the $200 that you say you gave as goodwill i am not implying you gave it secretly(why would you?) Anyways best of luck. One step in right direction would be to own up to the problems and do something to resolve them so you have a prosperous future. And BTW Mustafa was great I had no issues with him he was the most professional individual and very helpful. But when there is multiple theft of cash and breaking in happening in the same timeframe that's a big warning sign. I have traveled to many places and never experienced anything like this. I also don't review any business for negative reasons (you can see my profile) but you guys made me do something differently for the first time.
