Bosphorus Sorgun Hotel

Stayed here as part of a family vacation for 5 nights. Whilst a lot of the hotel is “adequate”, certain aspects were disappointing and others unacceptable.
The rooms are fine, the bathroom is open plan which was a little odd and not very private. It’s a decent size and we overlooked the pool which was quite nice. However the cleaning of the room left a lot to be desired. Not sure the bed sheets were changed too often and we noticed some very small insects in/around the dressing table a few days.
The hotel itself is a decent size with a number of facilities. However, for a “5*” hotel we’d expect the games room with pool, table tennis etc to be open longer hours rather than shut for the evening and for the gym to be 24/7. There are also only 4 lifts servicing the entire hotel and often we’d have to wait a long time before we could use one. A lot of the time we ended up carrying our buggy up and down 2-4 flights of stairs which wasn’t ideal. There were also often queue for drinks at the bars.
The worst part: food
Whilst there is a lot of food on offer in the buffet, it rarely changes day on day so feels very repetitive. By the end of the 5 nights we were rather bored of the food. Breakfast was ok and open for a decent period of time so could always get a table. For dinner however, 7-9pm is just a joke. Firstly, for those with babies/young children, 7pm is quite late to sit down for dinner. Secondly, as everyone only has a 2 hour window to eat, it’s manic trying to get a table and queue up to get food. We often saw people struggling for a table and the queues to get food at the buffet were often very long. Not acceptable for a “5*” hotel. However, the worst part was that 3 out of our party of 6 likely got food poisoning. All 3 of us were ill the same night with the same symptoms: sickness, tummy troubles, feverish sweats. Whilst we cannot guarantee food poisoning, the fact all 3 came down ill for the same 24-48hr period, seems likely. In addition, when checking out, the party in front were asking reception for assistance with a family member who was ill/sick in their room. I have also seen other reviews claim food poisoning so I would say with some confidence that was what happened to us and is likely a potential issue with this hotel.

In summary, this hotel is not 5* in my opinion. I would say a 4* at best, and perhaps 3* for certain aspects. It is adequate and to be fair, isn’t the most expensive option, so that has to be factored in when giving a review. I would have given it 3 stars as a review as overall it would be ok/adequate/average, but the highly likely food poisoning incident drags it down to a 2* for me.
It was the first holiday I’ve had in a long time whereby I wasn’t unduly upset that we weren’t staying longer, and I guess that speaks volumes.

Good location, friendly staff, but nothing is done if you don't tip. the room is not cleaned while you stay for seven days, only the towels are changed. the minibar is not supplied. I had a massage, I paid for 90 minutes and received 30 minutes. the rest sends you to the room to relax. from 4 o'clock after dinner you can no longer sit at the outdoor pool because of the smoke from preparing dinner. plus I found cockroaches in the room. disaster
