Mondrian South Beach

The place was nice, but not worth what I paid for it. First, the iron didn't work, it looked like it was from the 90s. My air conditioner never worked, they sent up a technician who literally just looked at the thermometer and stuck his hand in front of the vent and left. Some of the staff were rude, the vast majority of them were very pleasant though. The swimming pool area was great though, and there was a great view of the ocean. I did like that many places were only a 15 minute walk away. The area was very nice too, I didn't feel like I had to worry about crime or anything. Overall it was a good experience, but I expected much better for the price you pay.

I stayed at the Mondrian for a work event. The catering staff was exceptional, however the front desk staff left a lot to be desired. (1) When I checked in around 4:30 pm, my room was not ready. Several members of my group experienced the same. What was interesting is that we all received different explanations for why our rooms were not ready upon check-in. (2) Our work meetings took place in a secured area of the hotel that required special programming for our card keys. Upon check in, I was assured that my key was properly programmed to gain access to the meeting area, yet when I tried it the next morning, it did not work. I had to work my way downstairs to get the key cards programmed. Again, no one had a suitable explanation for why the card did not work as promised. (3) A few days after check-out, I reviewed my credit card statement and found an unrecognized charge by Mondrian. I called the front desk and was told this was a minibar charge. I didn't have anything from the minibar--I know how expensive those items are. In addition, I was part of a group that was being fed throughout the day and night, so I certainly didn't need anything from the minibar. I find the incident highly suspicious. The young woman I spoke to on the phone promised to follow up with an email and a phone call--I have yet to receive either. Instead, I disputed the charge through my credit card company. All in all, it was a disappointing stay and I certainly do not trust them enough to recommend them to anyone.
