Reviews
We asked for a high floor with quiet location which was met but we had 4 flights of steps to get there, there are no lifts here so unsuitable for people with mobility issues. The room was okay, comfortable enough, has a kettle but with tea only, no point in trying to drink on balcony as soon as you moved the table would get bumped as the balcony was so small. Room cleaned every day along with towel changes.
The hotel restaurant was too small for the amount of guests, there were many times I missed out on main meals as the queue was so long, one choice of soup only, no alternative for vegetarians, I would say you wont go hungry but if you want to sample everything then you have to time the best chance to, early or later. Snacks were good although bowls of mouldy fruit on offer. There is another restaurant that can be booked a few days of the week but its just the same as the buffet upstairs, you need to get up for your own food so it’s a bit pointless. The entertainment is pretty poor, bingo, karaoke many times of the week, the outside entertainment that was brought in was sometimes good. The lights went up after the entertainment which usually only lasted 30 minutes, they could do with having speakers on the restaurant terrace to play some music outside rather than inside. The entertainment team were 3, then 2 and then 1, there wasn’t many activities to take part in and I had to ask them to change the music as the same songs played over and over and over, thankfully they did and this was appreciated.
Drinks were good, I can honestly say that most of the staff were a pleasure, always polite and professional, only exception was a girl on reception, many have complained about her and her manageress, we tried to get hold of a vet to help a little kitten but they claimed there was no vet in Obzor but really they were unwilling and uninterested in helping as we found a vet 2 minutes up the road.
The pool area was fine, towel guy was such a help and always smiling, Valo the pool barman is an asset to the hotel, Georgi the pool guy was polite and friendly also.
The area outside the hotel is nice for walks and there are some beach bars, other bars on the square, shops, coffee shops, take aways and restaurants dotted about. There is a takeaway on the street where carrefour is, they do the best kebabs, busy at all times of the day.
We would return as we met so many lovely people and the staff all nice, beach was lovely but you pay for sunbeds, none provided by hotel.
The hotel location is great for a relaxing holiday, sun beds around the pool are plentiful and we never had a problem getting a spot at any time of the day. (sun beds on the beach need to be paid for as beach is not part of hotel) but if you want lots to do then you need to travel to sunny beach... And the journey isnt a pleasant one due to the very long winding road and crazy drivers.
One thing to note is hotel does not have any lifts so people with mobility issues will definitely need to be on ground floor but the restaurant is on the first floor which could cause a problem
We arrived in the early hours of Friday morning as our flight had been delayed but this didn't matter; the receptionist was lovely checked us in, showed us to our room and where the restaurant was which even though it was almost 2am they had prepared plates of bread, ham, cheese and jams so we could still eat and get fresh drinks.
The rooms were lovely, very spacious with 2 single beds, a sofa, dressing table, and tv (and most importantly air-con!). Our bathroom was great - it was a wet room (not all rooms are we just happened to have one) which meant there was plenty of space to shower and get ready after a long day in the pool or at the beach. Even though we were on the ground floor we still got a balcony which was lovely to sit out on and watch people having fun in the pool, listen to music and see the sea.
The pool itself was massive and so well kept. This meant that we didn't feel as though we were in people's way or they were in ours and we could have plenty of room to do our own thing in the pool whilst others did their. Complete with a swim up bar so you didn't even need to get out to have a drink! There were always sun beds available even by the middle of the afternoon so there was never a struggle for somewhere to put our things or lay down and relax. You could also get pool/beach towels fresh to borrow everyday.
Without having to walk any distance at all, right outside the hotel is the beach which was absolutely beautiful - the water was so warm, clear and clean and the sand was soft.
The food for breakfast, lunch and dinner were delicious. It was a wonderful buffet spread for each and although we did have to queue up for a short amount of time it was worth it. Breakfast was standard bacon, sausages, eggs of all varieties as well as meats and cheeses in addition to sweet things. Lunch and dinner were different each day of the week with a variety of meat, vegetables, pastas, pizzas, salads and more always on offer. The snack bar for lunch was great as it offered the same selection as the restaurant but without having to get completely dry and dressed from being in the pool and sitting on the balcony watching the people on the beach was a wondeful way to spend lunch time. The staff in the restaurant were so lovely as were the bar staff. The bar was fantastic and they were more than happy to make any drink you asked for even if it wasn't on the menu. Everyone was just so kind and friendly.
The final and most important thing that I must mention is the animation team... Vladi, Elvin, Emil and Radi were absolutely incredible! Every morning (except Sunday their day off) first thing in the morning was aqua gym in the pool which we loved, then throughout the day they all ran entertainment games such as darts, 'fanta, cola, sprite', shuffle board, waterpolo (I have never played so much waterpolo at a hotel; it was always kept calm but still fun!) and more as well as running a kids club with different activities indoors such as painting t-shirts, pirate day, games and more. In the evening they then ran incredible entertainment. Every night for the two weeks that we were there was different. When I booked the holiday I was apprehensive about the entertainment being indoors but that made it better - the bar right there, plenty of tables and chairs and air-con to keep you cool - there was no need for me to worry. Vladi, Elvin, Emil and Radi put on brilliant and hilarious performances of their own in crazy shows, as well as talented bollywood dancing. They hosted two parties around the pool whilst we were there (the only entertainment outside but it worked so well) which included a live band one night and a live singer another night. Other entertainment included dancing, quizzes, a variety show, bingo and karaoke. Every single piece of entertainment run by the animation team throughout the day and night was absolutely perfect and made for an amazing holiday!
I would 110% recommend Alua Sun Helios Beach to any family looking for a fun and relaxed holiday.
Restaurant can get quite busy but opening times are long, nice seating area on the terrace too.
Despite all inclusive, you have to pay a daily charge for the room safe. Also, beach loungers are a separate charge and do not belong to the hotel.
All in all, lovely chilled hotel in a quieter area than Sunny Beach.
So be aware that my rating is for such a trip. I have no idea how well they can manage huge amount of visitors especially if those come by car....
