Fantasyland Hotel in Edmonton

The first night we stayed there we got the cheaper room for $200. It was modern, clean and spacious. It had a bigger bathroom and a digital thermostat to control the room temperature.

I was later disappointed the second night we chose the Hawaii themed room for $450. You would think for that price it would be a better quality room than the cheaper room. The first room we were put in the thermostat was ancient and broken. We had no air conditioning.

No seats in the jacuzzi and the jets were not powerful at all. Also the jacuzzi was on carpet, seemed like a breading ground for mold and it was very run down. It looked like a motel room.

There were mirrors above the bed, which was weird for a family room with bunk beds….

The room was very small didn’t have anywhere to put our stuff. Cheap and old furniture. The bed was hard as rock and had weird ledges which made it difficult to get into the bed. The bunk bed was so low if the children sat up they bumped their heads. The bathroom was small and outdated as well.

They gave us a cheap room when we told them the air conditioning was broken but would not give us a refund as it is $200 cheaper. So they offered to give us a different themed room. After changing rooms 3 times, again we could not control the temperature of the room. The bathroom was small.

They offered to upgrade us to a modern theme room for even more money. That was ridiculous!! We are paying a large sum of money for a good experience and it was very disappointing.

Worst experience ever. First we requested a fully accessible room for a wheel chair. Which we confirmed on the phone when we made the reservation. When we got here the room was not accessible at all. To top it off the “fully accessible” room we got had no heat in it. It took over an hour to finally settle in the room because of the trouble. Then on top of that we got stuck in the elevator for nearly two hours. When we called the front desk about it they ignored us. Will never stay here again. The rooms are very dated. The shower has no pressure to it. Overall bad stay. Not worth the money.

Had a booking for the Polynesian themed room however the quality of the room was fairly disappointing for a $500/night room.

I was willing to put up with it however after about an hour or two it started to get quite warm and there was no way to adjust the air conditioning.

Spoke with the concierge who offered a similar room in exchange, but as that room was already disappointing we asked to be put in a regular (non-themed) room while they sent maintenance to check the air conditioning.

The regular room had much better quality features (especially good air conditioning) so I went back to confirm that we preferred that room but wanted to be sure we weren't going to be charged $500 for a normal room that would have been half the price.

Management stated we could not be given a refund for the difference in price but would find us a similar room with working air conditioning.

I personally went up with maintenance and management to view a couple more Polynesian themed rooms to verify the air conditioning was working.

Everything appeared fine so we agreed to switch again to another one of the Polynesian rooms. However, I did mention there was no way to adjust the air conditioning if it became too warm.

After a few hours it started to get quiet warm again like the previous room but at that point I was sick of complaining and just suffered through the night.

Quite disappointing and would never recommend the over priced theme rooms. The standard rooms were much better quality in my opinion.

Also disappointed that management didn't just let us downgrade to a normal room and refund the difference.

Have spent many nights at the Fantasyland Hotel in standard rooms and never had any issues, however these themed rooms are not worth it.
