Holiday Inn Conference Centre Edmonton South, an IHG Hotel

When I walked into the lobby just after 3:00pm I was surprised to see no line up at the front desk for that time of day. The lobby area was nicely decorated with Christmas trees and had nice décor. The service from staff was fine and they accommodated my preference for a room location.

When I walked inside my room I noticed the carpet right away. Most hotels have renovated to wooden floors except this Holiday Inn. Old carpets that absorb food and beverage spills are unsanitary. The room was quite small for a standard two queen size beds, other Holiday Inn's have more space. The furniture is outdated and old. I noticed chipped chairs and a tear in one of the curtains. The curtains need to be replaced, or at least professionally cleaned.

The big TV was nice and having a shower facility without a tub was nice. The heating and air conditioning was excellent. I had called for maintenance to come and unclog the bathroom sink drain from slow drainage and sure enough it had hair build-up.

This hotel is one of the oldest in south Edmonton for Calgary Trail/Gateway Blvd area. All the hotels along this strip are aging and will require renovations and upgrades. I probably won't choose this Holiday Inn again because I don't like carpet and small rooms.

Everyone was pleasant and always asked how I was when they saw me.

Chose this hotel as it is pet-friendly and close to VCA clinic.
Rooms are dated and could use a deep cleaning to perk them up. Updating light fixtures and switches would help too. Sheets and towels were clean and adequate.
Great service, friendly check in staff and cleaning staff did a great job at turning room over.
We stayed on the side with the train. It was slightly annoying at night/morning as it does rumble loudly at times and woke me up.

My husband, myself and our son stayed here while in the city for appointments.

Having Ricky's all day grill attached to the hotel was perfect. It was really nice to go have a great meal without even having to leave the hotel again after a long day.. The staff and food at Ricky's were 10/10!! I have absolutely zero negative things to say about the staff or food at Ricky's.

Over all, the room was pretty good. Good size. My only real complaints would be the fact that the shower in our room was clearly not cleaned as there was a use bar of soap in the shower still... they don't even have bars of soap in the room as they use bottles. So that was disgusting. When brought up to staff in the morning, they did not seem to really care and just smiled as she mumbled she would let housekeeping staff know. I'd expect a bit more of response or action when it involves something unsanitary as a used bar of soap in the shower.

We also picked a room with a hide a bed and no linnens were provided for it. Thankfully my son had brought his own blanket but kind of annoying when there is 3 people checking into a hide a bed room and they don't even provide the bedding or atleast ask if you'd like it. Obviously I could of phoned the front desk to get some but I would expect them to be provided with this type of booking.

Location was easy to get too. Convenient for getting where we needed to go.

Even with the couple issues we had, we will probably give the hotel a second try and see if our experience is better, which hopefully it will be!
