AHORN Waldhotel Altenberg

A friend and I wanted a relaxing weekend away and booked the wellness packet. It was super lovely and would recommend it to nearly anyone.

The hotel is also very child and dog friendly so you need to be ok with the occasional family and their pooch walking past (like is the case in most of Germany, the children and dogs were well behaved).

We went in February so there was snow everywhere even though there was no snow in Dresden at the time. It was a perfect winter get away. It however also looks like a perfect summer destination too.

There is only a bus (that has a stop straight outside the entrance) so the Hotel is not accessible by train. There is 100% the chance to use public transport to get there.

Great location for relax (nature all around), bus stop in front of the hotel, clean, standard room with very small bathroom, clean pools, great staff. Tasty rich buffet breakfast, good beer (not the "Pils" one but the Benediktiner one).
But the Glück-Auf restaurant. I understand there were not so many guests now but still, with the location and woods around, I would expect fresh meals from local ingredients. Not a de-frozen pizza but for example fresh pasta with mushrooms and cream sauce etc.. so many easy, quick and tasty options.

We were with a group of 41 hikers from 23.06.to 27.06.2016 in the Hotel. The Service and all staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were very clean, not very big but we were for Hiking there, have us only go to Sleep in the room. Beautiful home in the evening and a special praise to the Hiking guide, Mr. Heinrich was. We have only one complaint, the dining room was very warm, here's a sun protection needs, and all have sweated at Breakfast and dinner, it was uncomfortable and we had to implement often, the sun has fully appeared by the window. The swimming pool and the whole area great and well maintained, very nice for family with children!

I was with my children in this Hotel and can really only report positive. The (really clean!) Rooms are small, but the Bed is quite sufficient. During the day, you want a company, after all, a lot or in bad weather inside the hotel are very many possibilities. There is a swimming pool, a shallow children's area is separated, a Sauna, a Kids World (indoor Playground), in the creative offers by a support person, but adults with table tennis, football, Darts, Billiard or table football can have your fun. There are in the 2. Floor a game room, which we discovered only at the time of departure. In the exterior there is a spacious swimming Pool, sun loungers and playgrounds directly on the beer garden. All playgrounds are fenced in and not secured, so that the Small race of fast times on the road. Very well thought out! :-) Also, there is a Barefoot and “feel boxes“of the way along to a small herb garden for the children. Every day there are animations for Big and Small. If you can't deal with yourself or want to take part just in the Offers. We had booked half Board and I was overwhelmed by the diversity of the food. The drinks at dinner to pay, at Breakfast you are free. There is a children's buffet, a salad buffet, a Buffet with salads of all kinds, a Buffet of cold plates, a Buffet taught in the evening, with 5-6 different hot dishes that you can to your heart's content. Another Buffet alone for the most different Desserts. In the Morning a Buffet with scrambled eggs, warm sausages or Meatballs, waffle iron, Porridge, muesli, etc. And the Buffet is always a lot of different things. Each Buffet is from 2 sides accessible, and has the most delicious food. Large praise to the cook. But also the Service in the Restaurant was super.
With the selection of the Hotels we have done everything correctly. I can only recommend it! And the surrounding area offers many excursion possibilities. We were able to recover really well, quite a lot of great things to experience and Express our thanks for the kindness in your home! :-)

The price-performance ratio fits here perfectly!
Only the selection and volume of music during dinner bothered me.

Nice place and good hotel. The breakfast was really delicious with a good choice. But the rooms are quite old and sound isolation wasn't so well.
