Staudacherhof in I Blick aufs Zugspitzmassiv I einzigartige Bayurvida Küche Hotel

We reserved two rooms at Staudacherhof in March 2025. After two nights of sleeping in Room 217, my father was covered in dozens of bed bug bites and we found a dead bed bug under the bed frame. We reported this situation immediately to the front desk. The hotel representative explained to us that there had been a known issue in that exact room for months prior, which they believed had been resolved. Immediately my parents were switched to a different room and the hotel offered to launder all of their belongings at a high heat, and they were ultimately offered a 50% discount on their 4 nights lodging. The remainder of our trip was tarnished by this experience, my father experienced significant pain and discomfort from the many bites, my parents had to go over 24 hours without access to their personal belongings while they were being disinfected. We have also had to go to great lengths (expense and inconvenience) to ensure we do not bring these pests back to our homes. We shared this experience with the owner, Peter Staudacher, and asked for a full refund of the charges for my parents room only. We are of the opinion that despite the 50% discount, being charged over €500 for this stay is inappropriate due to the pain and suffering this has caused. Peter Staudacher has refused the refund, he believes our “claim is not appropriate” We cannot recommend this hotel and will not be back.

I am sad to say that our experience with Staudacherhof was quite unpleasant.

We booked 4 nights at this hotel and confirmed the booking over the phone with George. We received an email confirmation and responded to re-confirm what had all been agreed on the phone.

2 days before our arrival, we wrote to ask if we could add a 5th day. We were totally unprepared for what happened next. George rang back to say that our room was double booked and he could only offer us 2 nights and not even the 4 we had originally booked. He said that a subsequent booking had been made through a bookings website and that (for reasons that never became clear) he had to give priority to that booking because it was made online, even though it was made after ours.

When we said that this was not fair and that he had confirmed our booking personally, George responded rudely "are you done, Sir?".

This leaves us without a hotel for most of this week. This was the main bit of our summer holiday but thanks to George we are in Bavaria with our children and with no hotel. We explained this to George, who was frankly indifferent. He said, "I understand that you are disappointed but all I can ask is for you to decide if you want to come for 2 nights instead". Garmisch is a long drive from where we are at the moment and not worth it for just 2 nights.

After some discussion, George seemed to suggest that it was our fault for not booking online. He also suggested that we ought to have "re-confirmed" the booking and said that German law requires all hotel bookings to be reconfirmed in writing.

As I pointed out, the word "re-confirmed" acknowledges that a booking has already been confirmed once but in our case we had confirmed over the phone, and in emails. I am pretty sure that is not what German law requires but in any event (a) we had made the booking over the phone with him and he had never suggested we were required to "re-confirm", and (b) We had responded to George's email confirming the booking!

George acknowledged that we had made a booking and that he had confirmed it. He seemed determined to refuse to apologise or accept responsibility and his explanations became increasingly difficult to understand.

Our email from George was headed "Reservation" and there was no doubt at all when we booked that we had booked a room. George agreed that we had made a reservation but said there was nothing he could do. The problem seemed to be that he had not removed the room from the bookings website after we booked over the phone.

What was particularly unpleasant was that George was totally unapologetic and barely interested that he was ruining our holiday through his own incompetence.

We had given up other options after he had confirmed our booking. Indeed, in order to be courteous we had called the other hotels who were holding rooms for us while we made up our mind to let them know that we would not need those rooms. Now we have nothing. As we told George, his failure to properly book our room has ruined our holiday.

This sort of behaviour does much more harm than people like George seem to realise. We are now miserable and have cancelled some plans for the day to try to find an alternative. We also feel depressed about being treated so badly by a place we had been looking forward to visiting. George's obvious lack of concern for us really rammed this home to us. I cannot understand how someone like this has a job in hospitality.

In response to the response below: Contrary to your explanation, the problem in our case was not one caused by electronic systems or a matter of only a few seconds. George admitted that the problem was that the room we had booked had been left available to book online even after we had made our reservation. He tried to blame us for this, saying that we should have "re-confirmed". Also, we were not told until long after we made the booking, just 2 days before we were due to arrive. There is no excuse for that.
