The hotel is located far from public transportation, about 20 minutes walk, you can order a taxi. The rooms are large but do not have a refrigerator or an electric kettle. Things like this are required in such a place because you are in a remote place. The staff at reception were very friendly. Both check-in and check-out went smoothly. The room is OK, but a bit old-fashioned. The door to the bathroom is a sliding door and offers little privacy. There are large windows for ventilation. This is also necessary, because the room always smelled musty when we entered. We had to plug the TV, refrigerator and lamps by the bed into the sockets ourselves...

Very good, pleasant stay, long queue in front of the coffee machine for the breakfast buffet, normal German filter coffee is recommended. I would stay at the NH-Hotel Essen again anytime. A clear recommendation!

Basically all you need, good priced room and decent bed. BUT the downstairs cafe sells things priced a bit too high. €5,50 for a single water is a bit much. Luckily the Hauptbanhoff is close enough to walk to Lidl or Aldi, great location. Only real complaint is the window barely opens. You want fresh air, but you can't really get it. Good internet and otherwise nice place to stay in Essen.

We were very happy that the room was ready at our arrival one hour before official check in time. The room was big enough, the bed was comfortable and I really liked the small sitting area next to the bed. The room was refreshed during our two night stay. There is also an ironing room available for the guests. We had a fun evening playing ping pong at the bar.

Rooms were small and we missed a few things. The hotel is more fun when youre at the ground floor with somebody else where you can play games like table tennis and table football. The location is exactly in the center with a big shopping street being 2 minutes away. The people at the bar are also very nice. There aren't any different types of rooms.

Hotel is what you can expect from a Moxy but the staff is extremely friendly I had ordered food one day and didn’t get a notification it was delivered. As I was walking to the lobby I met a man who works there called Artion, who was bringing my food to the room. It was completely unnecessary but very sweet!

Staying in this hotel was great and fun. We felt comfortable. The rooms are modern, and the hotel bar is never boring.

Hotel is conveniently situated 300meter away from Philharmonie U Bahn station and 1.5km to Essen HBF. Nice n neat hotel, I wished the water pressure in the shower area can be stronger though.

The room is super big. Although it was built in 2000, it doesn't feel old at all. It is clean and tidy, and has a capsule coffee machine. Essen has a large green area, so the air in the whole city is very comfortable. It is convenient to check in and the service attitude is very good.

The bathroom is so bad, the shower water is weak, the mattress is uncomfortable, and the equipment is so rudimentary

Room are decent and people are nice, but €18 for breakfast that have little choice of €7 for a bottle of water is a bit much. Also right now (2024) it’s construction right outside, so if you need want to nap during the afternoon, it’s a bit annoying.

Conveniently located a few minutes from the U-Bahn, looks over a pretty square, and the rooms are spacious, clean, and modern. Staff was very friendly and spoke English quite well. The continental breakfast isn't what you'd be used to in the USA, but it was still good. The only inconvenience was they provided only one room card instead of two. Excellent and friendly staff. The rooms and beds were nice, but the bathrooms need renovation, and the sound insulation between rooms and hallways was not so good. The room keys wouldn't stay programmed for more than 15 minutes, so I had to visit the lobby nearly every time I went back to my room.

Friendly staff. Rooms are fine for the express brand. We slept 3 easily with the sofa bed. Breakfast is typically German (no complaints), but if you're expecting scrambled eggs and such then you'll be disappointed. Parking, if you have to use the attached parking garage. There was a road under construction near the hotel. I drove there at night and followed Google Maps for many times but couldn't find the way. It was very unfriendly. I parked the car at the train station next to it and walked there. There is an IKEA store and McDonald's near the hotel.

The hotel is easy to reach from the station that is close by. The rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable. Parking is free for all guests and you can access the hotel late at night easily. The entry code you get is very helpful and you don't have to carry a key card around with you. Overall a very nice hotel to stay at.

Friendly staff and interesting experience to stay two nights in the UNESCO area. Our room was cold and we couldn’t regulate the temperature but a receptionist quickly fixed the issue. We stayed there just for one night for the Essen Board Game convention and everything was great. The room was clean and spacious and the stuff was very kind to answer any question we had. It seems to attract lots of gamers during that period and we were lucky enough to meet some famous people from the board gaming community staying there. This new air newly renovated hotel is in a mid age former resident building. All rooms are brand new as well as the interior. The layout is very functional. The staff is helpful. Corona regulations are fully implemented, which makes you feel safe.

Cheap Hotel, slept for a night after a concert there. The room was OK, Breakfast we found a bit expensive. But there are good Alternatives in the city. Beautiful, the proximity to the train station and the free Ticket is.

Stopped in for lunch. It was nice, large portion at a good price. The waitress spoke english and was helpful for me. I had the schnitzel with fried potatoes.

I really rate this three Star hotel. In Germany you either get terrible at this price or good. This is excellent. We stayed in a large rear facing room, so it was quiet. Breakfast is okay, so long as it's included in the price. Staff very friendly. There is free bottled water in the basement. Nice box of Lindt chocolates left in the room. They gave us a free beer on the first night and a chocolate...

The host was exceptional. We really appreciated the ability to use the breakfast tables for playing board games at night.

Went for the GAME days in Essen with a buddy and the hotel was great for our purposes. Beds were comfortable, although the room, which we had, was not huge ... for our purposes but completely sufficient :) A super nice team (especially the owner) and also the breakfast was good. We will gladly come back on occasion!
