Hotel van der Valk
Gladbeck, Bohmertstrasse 333 🧭 Map
Was on top floor and could hear the train. Rooms weren't very sound proof as I could hear everyone in their rooms and making noises in the hallway
Big, good, comfortable Big and good hotel. Rooms are big and have a balcony or terrace. Bathroom is big and have bath&shower. Parking is big ( with electric charge) the bathroom was dirty and in the room & the 1th floor were smoked(((((
The hotel is located far from public transportation, about 20 minutes walk, you can order a taxi. The rooms are large but do not have a refrigerator or an electric kettle. Things like this are required in such a place because you are in a remote place. I recommend providing a scheduled transportation service via electric golf cars through Al Ghayah even if it is at a nominal cost. The hotel's location...
English in Germany! The staff were so accommodating and friendly - the room was so clean and well presented - I was slightly concerned as the images online don’t do it justice, it’s a fabulous place to stay! Highly recommend
Nice enough but some let downs Nice enough hotel but dated looking rooms let it down a little. Rooms are not in keeping with other Van Der Valk Hotels so lower your expectations and stay when pricing is lower and you should be ok. We ordered three double rooms and all of them were furnished slightly differently even though they were identical and next to each other. Biggest let down was one of the...
The staff at reception were very friendly. Both check-in and check-out went smoothly. The room is OK, but a bit old-fashioned. The door to the bathroom is a sliding door and offers little privacy. There are large windows for ventilation. This is also necessary, because the room always smelled musty when we entered. We had to plug the TV, refrigerator and lamps by the bed into the sockets ourselves...

Extremely clean. Very comfortable beds. Perfectly located right in the middle of everything.
Very nice hotel! The location is perfect, everything is clean, tidy and the staff is friendly. We were also lucky that there was space in the parking garage under the hotel which is also ideal. Thanks for the nice stay!
Breakfast from 6am... Perfect... Very helpful staff... Damn good varied breakfast buffet, delicious coffee and cocoa... Keep it up
Very good, pleasant stay, long queue in front of the coffee machine for the breakfast buffet, normal German filter coffee is recommended. I would stay at the NH-Hotel Essen again anytime. A clear recommendation!
Very central location, standard rooms are small but very modern and clean. Air conditioning. Nice bathroom. Very friendly reception. Possibility of underground parking. Good value for money.
Good Hotel for short stay very well located

Essen, Gildehofstrasse 10 🧭 Map
Awesome location, like 5mins walk from train station and into the shops Helpful staff and amazing breakfast Must check out the Rosemarie Cafe, cakes are so yummy and great service
Basically all you need, good priced room and decent bed. BUT the downstairs cafe sells things priced a bit too high. €5,50 for a single water is a bit much. Luckily the Hauptbanhoff is close enough to walk to Lidl or Aldi, great location. Only real complaint is the window barely opens. You want fresh air, but you can't really get it. Good internet and otherwise nice place to stay in Essen.
We were very happy that the room was ready at our arrival one hour before official check in time. The room was big enough, the bed was comfortable and I really liked the small sitting area next to the bed. The room was refreshed during our two night stay. There is also an ironing room available for the guests. We had a fun evening playing ping pong at the bar.
Rooms were small and we missed a few things. The hotel is more fun when youre at the ground floor with somebody else where you can play games like table tennis and table football. The location is exactly in the center with a big shopping street being 2 minutes away. The people at the bar are also very nice. There aren't any different types of rooms.
Hotel is what you can expect from a Moxy but the staff is extremely friendly I had ordered food one day and didn’t get a notification it was delivered. As I was walking to the lobby I met a man who works there called Artion, who was bringing my food to the room. It was completely unnecessary but very sweet!
Staying in this hotel was great and fun. We felt comfortable. The rooms are modern, and the hotel bar is never boring.

Hotel is conveniently situated 300meter away from Philharmonie U Bahn station and 1.5km to Essen HBF. Nice n neat hotel, I wished the water pressure in the shower area can be stronger though.
Clean hotel with friendly staff close to the train station, Follwang Museum and the restaurant and street Rüttenscheider Str. We stayed here a few times and would come back next time in Essen.
We had a wonderful 5 night stay. The rooms were nice and clean — great value for the price! The staff were also the most friendly and helpful hotel staff I’ve ever met in all my travels in Germany. Things to note: - The hotel is a bit of a walk to the city centre and multiple tram tickets can get quite expensive - Parking is 18Euros per day — on the pricier side. You are given a parking ticket to...
Stayed at this hotel many times and now always look to stay here when in Essen. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Clean, good-sized rooms.
The room is super big. Although it was built in 2000, it doesn't feel old at all. It is clean and tidy, and has a capsule coffee machine. Essen has a large green area, so the air in the whole city is very comfortable. It is convenient to check in and the service attitude is very good.
The bathroom is so bad, the shower water is weak, the mattress is uncomfortable, and the equipment is so rudimentary

Worked out very good short walk to town for dinner & train station ,great breakfast allclean & tidy
Good service, nice and clean hotel. Expensive parking, which isn't included. Trains passing by isn't a + except if you are traveling by one of them. 😉
Staff was courteous and friendly, rooms were clean. Breakfast area clean and food was nice. Location, though... haha. Well, let's just say I woke up quite a few times from the train noises.
Room are decent and people are nice, but €18 for breakfast that have little choice of €7 for a bottle of water is a bit much. Also right now (2024) it’s construction right outside, so if you need want to nap during the afternoon, it’s a bit annoying.
Stayed here for one night for a concert. It was clean, quiet, had good AC and is a short walk to the main Essen train station, so ticked all of the boxes. I have removed one star because we asked the hotel to arrange two taxis for my friend and I who were heading to separate airports. In both cases, the price estimate given by the hotel was significantly lower (by about 40%) than what the taxis ultimately...
The room is nice and clean, The air conditioning and heating system is excellent, the bed is wide and not high, there is no water kettle for tea, check out of the hotel at 11! They did not alert us to that, and they open the door of the room on you while you are in it! If you enter the breakfast buffet a little before closing, the staff will wait for you to finish your food while looking into your...

Conveniently located a few minutes from the U-Bahn, looks over a pretty square, and the rooms are spacious, clean, and modern. Staff was very friendly and spoke English quite well. The continental breakfast isn't what you'd be used to in the USA, but it was still good. The only inconvenience was they provided only one room card instead of two. Not sure if this is normal, but all Holiday Inns I've stayed...
Excellent and friendly staff. The rooms and beds were nice, but the bathrooms need renovation, and the sound insulation between rooms and hallways was not so good. The room keys wouldn't stay programmed for more than 15 minutes, so I had to visit the lobby nearly every time I went back to my room.
Friendly staff. Rooms are fine for the express brand. We slept 3 easily with the sofa bed. Breakfast is typically German (no complaints), but if you're expecting scrambled eggs and such then you'll be disappointed. Parking, if you have to use the attached parking garage. However, parking in the street is mostly free if you can find a space.

Great little hotel in the centre of Essen and close to the train station. Rooms very small, but met our needs for three nights. Didn’t have any food so can’t comment. Cheap and cheerful and ideally located . Not much else to say! It has a small bar !
The hotel was a bit pricey considering the facilities as it was during an international conference. It was disappointing that they were doing road paving work in front of the hotel and the breakfast was repetitive.
Quick one night stay whilst visiting the Christmas markets - good location. Basic but clean , Car park next door , check in was easy . Staff friendly - The rooms were fine although the bathroom was quite small Would stay again if visited Xmas market
Room is simple but good enough. Receptionists are also extra nice and helpful.
OK for one night, but the room was very small, especially the bathroom. Overall, good value for money
There was a road under construction near the hotel. I drove there at night and followed Google Maps for many times but couldn't find the way. It was very unfriendly. I parked the car at the train station next to it and walked there. There is an IKEA store and McDonald's near the hotel.

The hotel is easy to reach from the station that is close by. The rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable. Parking is free for all guests and you can access the hotel late at night easily. The entry code you get is very helpful and you don't have to carry a key card around with you. Overall a very nice hotel to stay at.
Hotel was easy to find and was cheap. Free car parking was also a bonus: Checking in was easy and the gentleman on reception was cheery and welcoming - explaining about the hotel and the room access via PIN number. Everything in the room was clean and appeared new. The bed was comfy and the shower was hot and of a good pressure. For a one night stop over it was ideal - close to the motorway. ...

Friendly staff and interesting experience to stay two nights in the UNESCO area. Our room was cold and we couldn’t regulate the temperature but a receptionist quickly fixed the issue. Breakfast buffet was one of the best: the variety of food options is amazing, I’ve tried the real honey comb there 😋
I recently stayed at this hotel and was blown away by the entire experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by incredibly friendly and supportive staff who made me feel right at home. The hotel itself is nothing short of stunning—I've never seen anything like it. The décor in both the lobby and the rooms is absolutely breathtaking, with every detail carefully thought out to create a luxurious...
Friends Zeche Zollverein is situated at, almost literally, a stone throw distance from the Zollverein grounds. The location is excellent, but the parking price is, at 10 euro a bit steep if you're just spending one night there. Three stars for the rooms; and that is a bit personal. The room we had was painted in an anthracite color. That color fits into the coal mine theme of the hotel, but lends a...
extraordinary hotel room and environment and the breakfast was delicious and with so much variety! Greatly surprised by the room decor and the wonderful bed and shower. Adorable that is pet friendly! (I did not take my pet neither am I aware if dog must stay in the room when you'll have to head to breakfast...) A place to come back with sweet and dedicated staff a great cleaning service!
The hotel is modern and cosy. The equipment is top. The staff is absolutely friendly and always ready to help.
A very original site, located in the complex of the old thermal power plant. The hotel is comfortable and cozy, I think it is far from anywhere.

Nice hotel for affordable price. Very pleasant staff. Tasty breakfast. Inexpensive parking. Unfortunately, the rooms facing the street are a bit too loud.
Was only here for a conference. Facilities are ok. Dinner wasn't too bad. Not sure of the cost. Service in restaurant was good.
Nice room, very clean. Service was okay, the barkeeper was kinda unfriendly but that did not have an impact on the impression of the hotel!

Good location and comfortable bed. The TV doesn't work properly unfortunately.
We stayed there just for one night for the Essen Board Game convention and everything was great. The room was clean and spacious and the stuff was very kind to answer any question we had. It seems to attract lots of gamers during that period and we were lucky enough to meet some famous people from the board gaming community staying there. It was ok-ish very tiny room 😬
Unfortunately smoking only outside. Beside this ok.
Good location in Gelsenkirschen near station and shops, no upper restaurants but Essen is nearby, parking charges, 8E per day, hotel small and busy but good for short stays. Nice staff and breakfast.
Hotel for short-term stays suitable, something in the years come, the Breakfast is good but train ticket incl overpriced,. All in all, okay!
Cheap Hotel, slept for a night after a concert there. The room was OK, Breakfast we found a bit expensive. But there are good Alternatives in the city. Beautiful, the proximity to the train station and the free Ticket is.
From the Service, it was very satisfied , Breakfast was also great .... Had booked a Family Room, what we have a regular room where a fold-out bed inside was made ! To sleep it was very noisy since we slept on the street ...? Rooms are very small , a few cosmetic repairs would have to be made ! Apart from the room . It was all okay . I think Its a special to sit on a boat and have a wonderful Lunch .The prices are fair.
Stopped in for lunch. It was nice, large portion at a good price. The waitress spoke english and was helpful for me. I had the schnitzel with fried potatoes.
Great steak and shrimp (I preferred the steak), and great side dishes. The personnel were extremely pleasant and accommodating. Excellent atmosphere. Definitely a must do. (And the music playlist was fantastic for all ages !)
The food at the restaurant was good, although the selection for vegetarians is very limited
Great service at the hotel. But the food is mind blowing. It is beyond tasty. Steaks are always to the point. The waiters are really nice and the owner is a wonderful man always attending to the guests. Congrats to the chef as well!

Good place to stay 5 min walk from the essen hbf and city center
Loved this little quirky place, amazing service and great breakfast
pretty cool Hotel, friendly staff and ok breakfast(continental) balcony in room was a bonus
I really rate this three Star hotel. In Germany you either get terrible at this price or good. This is excellent. We stayed in a large rear facing room, so it was quiet. Breakfast is okay, so long as it's included in the price. Staff very friendly. There is free bottled water in the basement. Nice box of Lindt chocolates left in the room. They gave us a free beer on the first night and a chocolate...
The host was exceptional. We really appreciated the ability to use the breakfast tables for playing board games at night.

We will gladly come back on occasion!
Managed with care. Friendly staff that make you feel at home. Highly recommended!
Great little hotel in a quiet neighborhood. Big rooms and great service. Rooms are basic, but clean.
