It is a really good location. Around the hotel, there is also free parking options.
Affordable hotels during the exhibition
Better than expected, a bit dated, very small safe, only for mobile phone, good beds and breakfast
The waiters are polarized in the two episodes, either extremely enthusiastic or extremely indifferent. The underground parking lot was not extremely crowded, but the charging stations were all broken (the attendant said they sometimes worked and sometimes didn't), which is very consistent with the style of Germany - unreliable.
Good, but parking costs 15 euros a day
The hotel is a 20-minute walk from Essen Central Station and not far from the pedestrian street. It is also convenient to park downstairs in the hotel. The parking fee is 17.5 euros per night, which is a bit expensive. The parking fee must be paid in advance and post-payment is not accepted. I guess inflation in Europe is still quite severe in the past two years. It seems that prices are skyrocketing...

My 2nd time staying at NH Essen, whilst on a business trip, and was pleasantly impressed. The front desk guy was more than helpful given my arrival circumstances and even changed my room, as requested, and explained to me all of the differences between my initial booking and what options I would have. They have a bar in the lobby however it opens in the afternoon. The breakfast and dinning area are...
I stayed there during Essen spiel. The mini-fridge in the rooms do not cool anything at all and might as well not have existed. Since I have diabetes and need to keep my medicine cold, it was an issue. Luckily, the staff accomodated my needs by keeping my medicine in the fridge at the lobby bar. But I wonder if they could have handled 10 diabetics at once. All the being said, the service was very...
Very Nice hotel downtown Essen. Rooms are clean and Well maintained. The room we had, was functional and had a Nice bed. Very friendly staf and speak All english. The hotel Has its Own small parkinggarage but also possible to park in a big garage. Great breakfast with a lot of choice. Al in al a great affortable hotel
The room was spacier than we expected, and the service was very friendly - especially the charming gentleman from Martinique at reception who we had nice conversations with and who came with treats for our son. It’s also a great touch that they serve apples, sweets and coffee at reception, and on our second day we got a sweet surprise in our room. The gym was small but clean. Highly recommend, also...
My stay was absolutely lovely, the location of the hotel is ideal, room was big, cozy and clean with all the needed anemities. After work, when came back i even found a cake to make the stay even more pleasurable. I loved also the bar downstairs and the staff is always so helpful and nice. Thank you for an amazing coffee, Christian! It made my day!
very clean and spacious rooms. It is also very central location.

Friendly staff and clean rooms, breakfast was astounding, and the receptionist at check-in was really professional and considerate. Hotel is close to a small city center, which is very lively and bustling. I will recommend this hotel to couples with children.
In general, we had a nice stay. Only unpleasant moment was breakfast time. Compare to the number of room, breakfast saloon is very small. Long queue for a coffee (front of ONLY ONE coffee machine). There is not enough place to sit and get breakfast. It might be as a reason of peak season (Christmas time). However, it was still unpleasant moment.
Good choice of hotel due to its proximity to the main station. The room was basic, but neat and tidy. Service was overall good as well. Of note, I particularly liked the breakfast for its fruit selection and the option of warm dishes like scrambled eggs and sausages. I wish the hotel had offered a bit more on the service side though, for example only basic soap shampoo was available and even upon request...
We stayed here several times now, always during the Spiel Messe. The location is great, near the main train station and thus also the underground line to the Messe. And one of the advantages of Intercity hotels is that you get a card which allows you to use the local public transport for free during your stay. The room was very quiet but also very small and that was the business room, I wonder what...
Room was fine. Cleanish. Bit dated. Bathroom modern and clean. There didn't ever seem to be any staff at Reception whilst we stayed here.
Hotel is good. Nice breakfast. Sometimes the people at reception are not very friendly.

Essen, Gildehofstrasse 10 🧭 Map
Price - performance absolutely fair. Good location near main station. It's the style, but the staff a bit too informal for my taste. But that is more personal option. Others may like it. Nothing to complain.
Hotel stay was nice, good bedding, I enjoy the relaxed Moxy style. Make sure you have no issues with your payment though - I stayed here one week ago for one night and used the parking lot. 1 day later I found on my credit card statements that they had charged me the parking twice. No problem and should be easy to correct, but no - I immediately wrote an email, no reaction, tried calling them 3 different...
Mediocre hotel. + Friendly staff + clean rooms + location -/- small and warm rooms -/- inadequate airconditioning (we switched rooms, but stays the same) -/- breakfast until 10am, even in the weekend -/- so so breakfast (strange given the positive reviews of the breakfast) -/- typical small hotel gym -/- bad coffee
Awesome location, like 5mins walk from train station and into the shops Helpful staff and amazing breakfast Must check out the Rosemarie Cafe, cakes are so yummy and great service
Basically all you need, good priced room and decent bed. BUT the downstairs cafe sells things priced a bit too high. €5,50 for a single water is a bit much. Luckily the Hauptbanhoff is close enough to walk to Lidl or Aldi, great location. Only real complaint is the window barely opens. You want fresh air, but you can't really get it. Good internet and otherwise nice place to stay in Essen.
We were very happy that the room was ready at our arrival one hour before official check in time. The room was big enough, the bed was comfortable and I really liked the small sitting area next to the bed. The room was refreshed during our two night stay. There is also an ironing room available for the guests. We had a fun evening playing ping pong at the bar.

Good service, nice and clean hotel. Expensive parking, which isn't included. Trains passing by isn't a + except if you are traveling by one of them. 😉
Staff was courteous and friendly, rooms were clean. Breakfast area clean and food was nice. Location, though... haha. Well, let's just say I woke up quite a few times from the train noises.
Room are decent and people are nice, but €18 for breakfast that have little choice of €7 for a bottle of water is a bit much. Also right now (2024) it’s construction right outside, so if you need want to nap during the afternoon, it’s a bit annoying.
Stayed here for one night for a concert. It was clean, quiet, had good AC and is a short walk to the main Essen train station, so ticked all of the boxes. I have removed one star because we asked the hotel to arrange two taxis for my friend and I who were heading to separate airports. In both cases, the price estimate given by the hotel was significantly lower (by about 40%) than what the taxis ultimately...
The room is nice and clean, The air conditioning and heating system is excellent, the bed is wide and not high, there is no water kettle for tea, check out of the hotel at 11! Clean hotel with friendly staff close to the train station, Follwang Museum and the restaurant and street Rüttenscheider Str. We stayed here a few times and would come back next time in Essen.
We had a wonderful 5 night stay. The rooms were nice and clean — great value for the price! The staff were also the most friendly and helpful hotel staff I’ve ever met in all my travels in Germany. Things to note: - The hotel is a bit of a walk to the city centre and multiple tram tickets can get quite expensive - Parking is 18Euros per day — on the pricier side. You are given a parking ticket to...
Stayed at this hotel many times and now always look to stay here when in Essen. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Clean, good-sized rooms.
The room is super big. Although it was built in 2000, it doesn't feel old at all. It is clean and tidy, and has a capsule coffee machine. Essen has a large green area, so the air in the whole city is very comfortable. It is convenient to check in and the service attitude is very good.
The bathroom is so bad, the shower water is weak, the mattress is uncomfortable, and the equipment is so rudimentary

The hotel's environment and location are both good, though the rooms are a bit small. The breakfast is also quite good, making it worth a subsequent stay. If you need help, you can contact the front desk staff, who speak English and provide decent service.
Modern hotel, good standard but rooms not too big. Very nice bathroom modern. Breakfast good although orange juice awful. Generally I recommend
The hotel facilities are new, clean and sanitary. The breakfast is not rich, but it is okay.
Clean and modern hotel in the "niu"-Style. Decent-size room with very comfortable bed. Not much facilities (no fridge in room, no water provided...), and no gym facilities - but that is fine with the very reasonable price point. Some limited dining options at the reception bar in the evening (pizza or Flammkuchen). Overall all was fine and would book again.
Unfortunately, the breakfast buffet was completely overbooked, so everything was always empty and the selection was limited. The rooms were excellent.
Friendly staff, nice interior and clean rooms.

Perfect stay for a couple of nights Perfect stay for a couple of nights. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. A bar, also serving meals, was nice. Breakfast was to my liking. Best of all was the location, just a few minutes walk from the trainstation and U-bahn.
Great stay Perfect for a night or two. Great location next to the station.
Great locatiom Had a wonderful day trip with my son. The location was perfect from the central train station and the shops. Breakfast was good and had the Gym for myself
Beautiful building at great location. My single room had a very decent sized twin bed. Although the hotel is next to the train station, I heard no noise at any moment of my stay. The gym room is basic, but it offers alternatives for a total body workout.

Clean and fresh. The staffs are really helpful. And the cleaning staff are really good

The staff was really friendly. The rooms were clean and we enjoyed it being so close to the train station and the pedestrian zone. One of the elevators was broken and we were there with a large group so that was a tiny bit unpleasant.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Ibis Styles Hotel in Gelsenkirchen while we were in town to watch the HSV match — and it turned out to be a great choice for the trip. The location is super convenient, right across from the main train station, so getting to the stadium and around the city was a breeze.
Decent enough Decent enough but pretty basic and nothing special. There is not a lot of choice in the area so couldn’t be too fussy.

Room was oke. Clean. I had a 1 person room you don't see those a lot anymore. But the bed was 120-140 wide so okay. The breakfast was realy nice with salmon fresh baked eggs and to much to choose from. The staff was very nice.
The hotel was quiet, clean and comfortable. The breakfast service was good. This was my first stay and I would book this hotel for my next visit.
Over all good Over all good, the reception is friendly, the place is clean and offers what you expect. The bed might be a bit to hard for me, but that is a personal thing. The wifi needs an Update, 2024 and just scraping by on two bars is not acceptable. Breakfeast was good, but at 20€ pr day it is in the heavy end. Did not eat dinner at the hotel.

An old, dated hotel. The current renovation is long overdue. Friendly staff and a great location if you want to walk to the city center or take the train to the arena.
Nice upper floor room with great views from balcony. Arriving at 1pm and being asked to pay 25E to get the room immediately is a questionable customer service attitude. Outside room like balcony need a makeover.

Very good environment, the hotel is located in a large park, the scenery is so beautiful, it is a plus, and the hotel facilities and services are good. Not sure if this is normal, but all Holiday Inns I've stayed...
Excellent and friendly staff. The rooms and beds were nice, but the bathrooms need renovation, and the sound insulation between rooms and hallways was not so good. The room keys wouldn't stay programmed for more than 15 minutes, so I had to visit the lobby nearly every time I went back to my room.
Friendly staff. Rooms are fine for the express brand. We slept 3 easily with the sofa bed. Breakfast is typically German (no complaints), but if you're expecting scrambled eggs and such then you'll be disappointed. Parking, if you have to use the attached parking garage. However, parking in the street is mostly free if you can find a space.

For the price - that's what you can expect I guess. It's by far most of the times the cheapest option to stay in Essen - yet the rooms are clean, all good. No personal actually on site - it's all done online, check-in, complaints management etc. The area where the hotel is located is a bit scary - but if you don't want to go out and just use the room to sleep, it's good value for price.
Super clean room & bathroom. Friendly personnel. Hotel is conveniently close to the city center. Right underneath the hotel is a huge Aldi supermarket.
I stayed in this place many times, the room is ok has everything what you need, the only complaint is the sink was blocked in the bathroom, that’s happened before with bathroom shower as well . I think that part need some maintenance service asap . Good access from highway 40, car park , a lots of shops around , recommend this place for short stay night
Clean and convenient with a cafe in the supermarket right beside the hotel
For the price the room delivers what I expected. The room is spacious, modern and clean. The bed is sturdy. The room has also enough power stations to charge.I love the free parking space and the location. The only critic is learning how to open the door using the code. I’ll definitely be back if I visit Essen in the future.
The location was excellent, and the room was clean and tidy. I particularly liked the self-check-in—easy and quick. My only minor criticism was that the sink drained a bit slowly. Overall, though, everything was very good, and I can recommend the hotel.
