Essen, Theodor-Althoff-Str. 5 🧭 Map
The room was clean and very quiet. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. The quality of the food in the restaurant was also good.
The three bedroom was very small, the beds were ok, the bathroom was a bit outdated but functioned properly. The breakfast was good, lots of choice, the staff was very helpful. The pool was average, a bit cold. The junior suite was very good.
These are my positive and negative experiences regarding the hotel: Positive: - The hotel has a big parking space - The hotel is located in a somewhat peaceful side of Essen - The staff was very friendly - The coffee at the breakfast buffet was excellent, and the machine had a fast refill, so you didn't have to wait long - The orange juice at the breakfast buffet was without pulp Negative: - On arrival...
Friendly welcome, clean comfortable rooms with sparkling water. Well payed out family adjoining rooms. Nice gym/poil area. Only downside was quite a bit of hair in the pool water. Breakfast was fantastic.
Great indoor pool, not heated but perfect for families with kids. Too short to swim. Breakfast was quite good, with a nice selection. Very large parking, and one electric charger, 0.50€/kW at the time of our stay. Bar has good cocktails. Rooms are a bit outdated, hence one star less
We stayed there for 5 nights. Breakfast is bad, room were comfy but you can feel they had good days long behind them. The personnel was really helpful. Good in the restaurant was not even. Tortellini or burger were really bad, but duck or Gulash were ok. Beer is cold and waiter kept our glasses full. The biggest gain is that the Fair halls are nearby and the price was okish. If you can spend a bit...

Beautiful location, very functional for congress or other business meetings. The rooms are huge and clean. The breakfast has a wide range of options. Even for lunch and dinner there were vegan options, although the steak was delicious. Near the hotel there is an incredible park with wildlife and hiking areas.
The Atlantic Hotel in Essen is a clean and well-maintained property with a great breakfast selection and a stylish bar area. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. However, a major downside was the parking situation. Unfortunately, parking cannot be reserved in advance, and upon arrival, we were told the on-site car park was full. This meant we had to park about 20 minutes walk away...
Only 2 minutes walk to Messe Essen. We stayed for one night only, probably priciest hotel in the area. Everything looks nice and clean and staff if really helpfull. We had a room o the 2nd flor, almost direcly above the entrance to the hotel. Bad placement as below our window people stopd smoling and talking and sounded like they were in our room. We could also hear if some one was walking in the...
The location is excellent. The room is large and well-equipped. The only drawback is that the sound insulation is not very good. I was woken up by the sound of the door closing next door in the morning and the floor felt a little shaken.
Cleanliness and close proximity to the motorway network, Staff were very helpful
Stayed for 3 nights had a coach which could park 5min walk away cars could park under Hotel. Rooms were excellent and the maid service maticulas with every detail. Good bar great range of single malts. Breakfast was exceptional there was everything you could think of available unlimited. Staff were polite and very attentive. very clean and spacious rooms. It is also very central location.
Everything was great! The receptionist was super nice and checked us early. I will rebook if i come back to essen.
I came back after a good stay of 4 nights and 5 days. The water in the shower room didn't drain well, so I cleaned it myself and showered. It needs to be cleaned more thoroughly.
The room has a bathtub and air conditioning. All the service was excellent.
Located in the center of Essen, next to the Christmas market and not far away from a pork knuckle shop, the hotel is very spacious and clean. The lobby also provides some drinks and desserts, as well as a bar.
The hotel is in a great location, with Chinese restaurants and shopping malls nearby, and you can walk there directly! And the central train station is also close by! Super convenient! The hotel has a gym, which is small but enough for exercise! Next time I come, I will continue to choose here!

Mediocre hotel. + Friendly staff + clean rooms + location -/- small and warm rooms -/- inadequate airconditioning (we switched rooms, but stays the same) -/- breakfast until 10am, even in the weekend -/- so so breakfast (strange given the positive reviews of the breakfast) -/- typical small hotel gym -/- bad coffee
Awesome location, like 5mins walk from train station and into the shops Helpful staff and amazing breakfast Must check out the Rosemarie Cafe, cakes are so yummy and great service
Basically all you need, good priced room and decent bed. BUT the downstairs cafe sells things priced a bit too high. €5,50 for a single water is a bit much. Luckily the Hauptbanhoff is close enough to walk to Lidl or Aldi, great location. Only real complaint is the window barely opens. You want fresh air, but you can't really get it. Good internet and otherwise nice place to stay in Essen.
We were very happy that the room was ready at our arrival one hour before official check in time. The room was big enough, the bed was comfortable and I really liked the small sitting area next to the bed. The room was refreshed during our two night stay. There is also an ironing room available for the guests. We had a fun evening playing ping pong at the bar.
Rooms were small and we missed a few things. The hotel is more fun when youre at the ground floor with somebody else where you can play games like table tennis and table football. The location is exactly in the center with a big shopping street being 2 minutes away. The people at the bar are also very nice. There aren't any different types of rooms.
Hotel is what you can expect from a Moxy but the staff is extremely friendly I had ordered food one day and didn’t get a notification it was delivered. As I was walking to the lobby I met a man who works there called Artion, who was bringing my food to the room. It was completely unnecessary but very sweet!

Hotel is conveniently situated 300meter away from Philharmonie U Bahn station and 1.5km to Essen HBF. Nice n neat hotel, I wished the water pressure in the shower area can be stronger though.
Clean hotel with friendly staff close to the train station, Follwang Museum and the restaurant and street Rüttenscheider Str. We stayed here a few times and would come back next time in Essen.
We had a wonderful 5 night stay. The rooms were nice and clean — great value for the price! The staff were also the most friendly and helpful hotel staff I’ve ever met in all my travels in Germany. Things to note: - The hotel is a bit of a walk to the city centre and multiple tram tickets can get quite expensive - Parking is 18Euros per day — on the pricier side. You are given a parking ticket to...
Stayed at this hotel many times and now always look to stay here when in Essen. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Clean, good-sized rooms.
The room is super big. Although it was built in 2000, it doesn't feel old at all. It is clean and tidy, and has a capsule coffee machine. Essen has a large green area, so the air in the whole city is very comfortable. It is convenient to check in and the service attitude is very good.
The bathroom is so bad, the shower water is weak, the mattress is uncomfortable, and the equipment is so rudimentary

Conveniently located a few minutes from the U-Bahn, looks over a pretty square, and the rooms are spacious, clean, and modern. Staff was very friendly and spoke English quite well. The continental breakfast isn't what you'd be used to in the USA, but it was still good. The only inconvenience was they provided only one room card instead of two. Not sure if this is normal, but all Holiday Inns I've stayed...
Excellent and friendly staff. The rooms and beds were nice, but the bathrooms need renovation, and the sound insulation between rooms and hallways was not so good. The room keys wouldn't stay programmed for more than 15 minutes, so I had to visit the lobby nearly every time I went back to my room.
Friendly staff. Rooms are fine for the express brand. We slept 3 easily with the sofa bed. Breakfast is typically German (no complaints), but if you're expecting scrambled eggs and such then you'll be disappointed. Parking, if you have to use the attached parking garage. However, parking in the street is mostly free if you can find a space.

Very small place with a walk from the train. Will not stay here again on my next visit.
My stay was disappointing. The internet didn't work, making it difficult to stay connected for work or personal use, and the staff were not friendly, which added to the frustration and made seeking assistance feel unwelcoming. My key card failed multiple times, requiring trips to reception. The heating unit was broken and I had to switch rooms, adding to the inconvenience. The rooms were cramped,...
Great little hotel in the centre of Essen and close to the train station. Rooms very small, but met our needs for three nights. Didn’t have any food so can’t comment. Cheap and cheerful and ideally located . Not much else to say! It has a small bar !
Worth using Reasonable value for money is all you really need to know! Breakfast a bit on the expensive side. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Good location for transport systems.
The hotel was a bit pricey considering the facilities as it was during an international conference. It was disappointing that they were doing road paving work in front of the hotel and the breakfast was repetitive.
Room is simple but good enough. Receptionists are also extra nice and helpful.

Clean and convenient with a cafe in the supermarket right beside the hotel
The location was excellent, and the room was clean and tidy. I particularly liked the self-check-in—easy and quick. My only minor criticism was that the sink drained a bit slowly. Overall, though, everything was very good, and I can recommend the hotel.
I like the location of the hotel, the cleanliness and simple. I’ll always stay here whenever I come to Germany.
View from my room. Near to Aldy and tram. No kettle provided in the room . No tea , no mug , nothing . Difficult to register as you need translater to fill up the form . Not working lift, so I need to carry my heavy bag up to level 2. I take a break a while but was scolded not to stay there.
is the best place for solo travler and olso cheep for me
a 8 minute tram ride from essen center hbf. Then a minute walk to the hotel. Check in is lengthy, took like 5 minutes but the room/building is very clean and comfortable. Supermarket is right next to it so getting drinks and food is convenient.

We stayed for the Taylor Swift concert and the rooms were so cool!!! Love the concept and how clean the hotel is. Only down side is the shower wall to the room is glass, not a lot of privacy. There is nothing around the hotel at all.

Nice hotel with excelent breakfast
I stayed here for 3 nights. The service and friendliness of staff is the best I have experienced anywhere in Europe or the US. Whatever I asked for it was done - from reception. The breakfast staff were exceptional. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Thank you for being so welcoming and helpful.
Old fashioned hotel, definitely would not rate 4* Breakfast was ok, nothing extraordinary. Good location with shuttle bus
Super friendly staff, extremely old fashioned place - even for a best western.

Good service, nice and clean hotel. Expensive parking, which isn't included. Trains passing by isn't a + except if you are traveling by one of them. 😉
Staff was courteous and friendly, rooms were clean. Breakfast area clean and food was nice. Location, though... haha. Well, let's just say I woke up quite a few times from the train noises.
Room are decent and people are nice, but €18 for breakfast that have little choice of €7 for a bottle of water is a bit much. Also right now (2024) it’s construction right outside, so if you need want to nap during the afternoon, it’s a bit annoying.
Stayed here for one night for a concert. It was clean, quiet, had good AC and is a short walk to the main Essen train station, so ticked all of the boxes. I have removed one star because we asked the hotel to arrange two taxis for my friend and I who were heading to separate airports. Lovely spacious room, very friendly staff
Guests rave about the friendly and attentive staff, who go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay.
Great Hotel, great restaurant. The waiter really makes every evening special, an excellent host. Nice rooms, dog friendly, great for children. A lot of room to play around or to play in the pool..The staff goes beyond what you may expect to give you a great time. We will be back for a third time real soon:)
Very clean rooms. But unfortunately the climate in the hotel room was very poor. It was hot and humid. Also, in my opinion the pillows were too large and too small. Furthermore, the hotel itself and its facilities were outdated. Therefore, I would not recommend this hotel.
Everyone at the hotel was helpful and able to answer any questions we had. There was always someone available. Thank you for a delightful stay! Also, the food was delicious!

Extraordinary buildings renovated in a lovely way to fulfill the five star feeling of the hotel (this really old stone and brick castle). Fireplaces with live fires going in the evenings are cosy. But be prepared for the smell if you are sensitive. The fine dining experience is a thing I truly appreciate and recommend!
A not so classy Castle. Sort out your breakfast. A beautiful castle just off the road to Hamburg. Service wise, almost great. The rooms (at least the suites) are big and have all necessary amenities like a kettle, fridge, tresor, tv and balcony. The location is ideal if you are traveling by public transportation and have business on the Gruga Location/ Messe Essen. The only negative is, that there are some but not a lot of parking spaces that belong to the hotel.

The design and furniture of the room (wooden) gives the room a very warm feel. The restaurant is awesome. The neighborhood is quiet and there is a nice park around the corner. Despite the distance to the city center, fairly efficient public transit.
