Reviews
They wanted all the details from my passport (more than normal) and other info however I was advised when I asked this would be destroyed in due course. I collected the key and we went to our room. However there was some confusion as on here - Hotels.com l reserved a double sofa bed and double bed room but it would appear this room type doesn't exist! I was slightly frustrated as I had taken the time to message the hotel through the app prior to my visit to confirm the room type and there was no issue flagged. Anyway the ladies on reception were very helpful, could understand where the error had occurred and could see I had tried to confirm the room etc before and acknowledged there was a language barrier.
As compensation for the inconvenience they offered us a complementary breakfast. We accepted and I am told the single sofa bed was comfortable. I would happily stay here again but will take note of the room type when I book. The hotel itself is very modern, has nice communal areas and the breakfast is a very thorough selection. We used the secure parking under the hotel at €10 a night and I was happy with this. You can park outside the hotel for €8. Hotel is was a lovely find and I will look to stay here again in future as it's within 10mins of Europa Park.
Positives:
-good location if you don’t mind a 20min walk to the Europa-Park entrance (you can’t enter through the official Europa-Park hotels entrance opposite unfortunately, but you can exit through them which makes getting back easy- follow the exit for Europa-park hotels in the Spain area).
-breakfast was decent enough with a good amount of choice and reasonable quality
-the staff I interacted with were always
helpful and friendly
The bad:
-I don’t understand the “Moxy” concept, it seems to be a marketing gimmick whereby a very basic budget hotel presents itself as a Marriott hotel requiring mid-market pricing for a budget offering
-rooms have no storage, beds are uncomfortable, and the pillows have been purchased from a €1 shop. Feels like something badly designed from the 1970s
-the air conditioning didn’t work so we were having to rely on having windows open in November (pretty poor for a new build hotel). We also requested additional pillows as the single €1 euro pillows they provide are like sheets of paper but these didn’t appear and there’s no phone in the room to ring reception.
-as a Marriott gold member I can say without doubt this is the most disappointing Marriott I’ve stayed at in over 20 years (and there have been few bad ones along the way).
Rooms are very, very clean! I was about to give it the full 5 stars. However... The cleaning crew did take our deposit bottles and only the German ones in particular (we had Dutch ones as well).
When addressing this with the staff, they acted very difficult, stating that the cleaning was done by an external company and we had to fix it with them. Well I'm not doing business with the external company, I'm doing business with the hotel.
It took very long to get this issue solved but in the end we got paid the value of the bottles that disappeared.
It did leave a sour aftertaste tho.
The location is very good. It’s 20 minutes walk to the entrance of Europa Park. There’s parking on the street and underground. They charge for the parking daily. There are restaurants nearby and two supermarkets just 2-3 minutes walk away; one open until 8 and the other one until 9.
The room was compact but very clean, the furnishings were all high quality and up to date. We had a premium family room and my kids of course loved the bunk bed - I loved that it had a gapless metal railing and a very solid ladder. It was also quiet - if there was noise from the street or other rooms, I couldn't hear it.
There is a small bar behind the reception desk that thankfully also serves light meals, for tired parents who aren’t up for leaving the hotel for dinner after arriving and getting the kids settled. There’s also a burger place across the street, BFB I think, with above-average burgers and sides.
The hotel breakfast was nice, good sausages and croissants just a delicious as the ones we had in France the day before.
All in all, we had a lovely stay and I'd definitely recommend it.
One of the standout features of this hotel is its commitment to cleanliness, with immaculate rooms that truly enhance your stay. The staff, always wearing welcoming smiles, were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout my visit.
The inclusion of USB ports in the wall plugs was a convenient touch, ensuring that staying connected and charging devices was a breeze. The shower exceeded expectations, providing a refreshing and invigorating experience after a day of adventure.
What truly struck me about this establishment was the serene ambiance it offered. Despite its proximity to Europa, the hotel remains remarkably quiet, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The elevator's speed was another pleasant surprise, allowing for swift access to various floors.
Additionally, the hotel's location is ideal, with just an 18-minute leisurely walk to the park entrance. This convenience made my visit even more enjoyable, as it allowed for easy access to the park's attractions.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for its excellent value, modern amenities, friendly staff, and proximity to Europa. It truly enhances the overall experience of visiting this wonderful destination.
